That modification adds one link to the original navbar where you can add multiple links to a dropdown menu. Menu Control installs an additional navbar that is completely admin controlled. :)

Hello,

I am sorry, but I am just installing my first plugins and don't have much experience. I managed to get your cool plugin installed, but am trying to figure where in the admin control panel to change the menu items. Do I just change the code in the navbar section, or is there actually a control panel menu that I can't find?

Thanks! awesome little plugin..... here it is on my site..

Great Modification. This could be the start of what could be the replacement of the navbar altogether.

I think that the navbar should be an ADMINCP controllable object by default. Would be nice if it was a little bit easier for the people who are weary of template edits and such.

Well it's been on my mind, I was thinking about adding it into the next version, but I didn't know what everyone's thought are on it. So you want to be able to have complete control over both navbar's?

Yes. I took and put this one on a test site and have it at the top of the navbit. The original navbar is on the bottom, Similiar to the Double navigation bar. If I could add another to the bottom to replace the original, there would be no need to edit the navbar template any more. I know that there would be a permissons issue for some of the links but if you ever implement that into it, we could do away with the default nav bar in vb, which is a pain in the butt to have to edit when you have custom styles.

This is a great plugin by the way :smoke:

Would be cool to have a permissions option of which usergroups that could view the navbar.

A excellent feature would be to have an option to add a little icon next to each link.
If you can add dropdown menu's in some way then this will replace my second Navbar I already have installed.

To place at the top.

in the navbar template.

Find:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.

I think this is a skin issue. Why do I say this? If you go to http://www.forums.repashy.com/showthread.php?t=1177 (http://) you will notice that the drop down when you click on a users name does not work either.

Now visit http://www.forums.repashy.com/showthread.php?t=1771 and it works..

Try removing the plugin and try that search drop down without it and also clicking on user names with threads more than 1 page..

I had a skin that done this very same thing. I had to get the developer to fix.. :surprised:

As nice as this is and glad to see updates, I think I'll stick with the 1.1 version (Pre Color Changes).
On a forum with white and black themes it's hard to find a happy medium on the color.
The default of past versions really seem to match the site and theme much better especially if you have several themes installed.
Just my 2 cents but still a Great addition.

I've added the features I'm going to include in the next version on the mod display. I will update this list when needed!

I've decided Version 1.3 will include:

* Easier Installation - That's right, as if this mod isn't already easy, it's about to get easier! Version 1.3 will include automatic template installation, you just add one line of text in the appropriate area ;)
* Images Next to links - Gives the ability to place images next to each individual link. With the option to not have images turned on!

After this version, I will go to production on version 2.0. It should include the following features:

* Original Navbar Administration - Gives you the ability to change the links on the original navbar (Admin-Controlled!)
* 'Pop-down' Links - Gives the ability to create one - two vB javascript menus.
* Menu Move-about - Ability to choose where the menu is (Admin-Controlled).

Thanks,

Marky

I'll definatly, like I said, look into the possibility. Of course I will clean up the admincp of it, but it will probably be in the version above 2.0 :)

Also, i'm a little short on funds, and since im doing this mod for free, I thought maybe you'd like to donate :) This isn't compulsory, of course, but if you have some spare cash and like the mod, just use the link on the main screen! I will be thankful how ever small or large the amount :D

I installed menu control and added links like Members list, Home (for vBadvanced portal), Calendar, Who's online in menu control. When I click on Home it logs me out of vBulletin. Could it be because in Menu control I can't add the "?$session[sessionurl]" to the link? That's how all the links are in the vbulletin navbar template. Does that keep you from getting logged out?

My site is www.laredoperformance.com.

Nope, didnt work..

"The document name you requested (/forums/memberlist.php$session[sessionurl_q]) could not be found on this server. However, we found documents with names similar to the one you requested."

Menu Control is gonna have to go. :( I guess it's only good for having links to external sites. Because if you add any vbulletin related links, or even links that'll take you to vbulletin hacks like Arcade, you'll still experience login problems because of the lack of the session hash in the link.

If you look at all the links in the template, they have the session hash:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

It would be nice if you added a session hash feature. For example, "Would you like to add a session hash to the end of this link? (Yes/No)", then give an explanation why one would wanna do that. Just a suggestion...

This would be alot nicer if it just took HTML inputs, and had an input field where you could indicate how many menu items there are.

I don't want all links to be local, some would go to another site entirely.

Just some suggestions. Nice work otherwise.

Also, if no links are set, it should not show at all. Currently it puts a 1px table where the menu should be.

Is it possible to wrap the entire bar in a conditional to show it to admins only? Could be evry usefull for admin links, the javascript menus could make it even better. Also agree with the pimp.

Thanks for the work so far, I'll check it out later.

Could be a good idea. I started off by removing the reference to colour from within your section in the admincp, but realised there must be something else, so I just stripped out the font colour lines for each link from within the template, which seemed to work but may be fiddly for a noob.

I've been working on Menu Control today - I've got the image's for every link working correctly. There is also a switch to completely turn images off for the menu. I'll be adding a colour switch, and i'll try my best to fit in a 'Session Switch' too which is a requested feature which will add the 'sessions' part of a link to the end of your links.

* Version 1.3 Released *
Thanks for all your patience. I've squeezed quite a few features in this version:

Features in Version 1.3
**** Window Features - The ability to change how your links open.
**** Colour Switch - The ability to turn the colour of your links on and off.
**** Menu Images - The ability to put an image next to each of your menu items.
**** Menu Image Switch - The ability to turn all images off and on.

I've also included the options you have to choose in the window opening options. Just check out the 'Add-ons' folder.

Also, in this version, all you must do is add '$menucontrol' to your navbar and it's installed! Should take less than a minute to install a modification cramped full with features!

Have fun, and don't forget to donate ^_^

Marky.. the only think i dislike about the vew version..

- Turning color on for whole navbvar section - would be better to turn color on individually.. as now colors will not be the color of the skin when changing styles like when the color is switched OFF ..

- No more 'Forum Home' variable - shouldnt default to http:// automagically before the value of the link .. (not a biggie)

otherwise its great! ;)

Lenny

EDIT: Settings were NOT lost on the upgrade.. maybe a full product removal.. but a overwrite DID NOT force me to reconfigure .. :)

Hmm that's odd - just took a look at the XML file and it contains the correct plugin to cache the templates. If it's a problem for you - you can manually cache the template but making a plugin:

Title: Menu Control - Cache Templates
Hook Location: cache_templates
PHP: $menucontrol[] = 'menucontrol';

The second step of the 1.2 to 1.3 upgrade is to change the code in the Navbar template as indicated here:
2. Go to 'Style Manager' and in the 'Navbar' template:

Find:

<!-- Menu Control - Version 1.2 - Created by Marky (MgArcade.com) -->
<div align="center">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-top-width:0px">
<tr align="center"><if condition="$vboptions[menu_status]">

<font color="#{$vboptions['menu_item_one_colour']}">{$vboptions['menu_item_one']}</font></a></td>
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="http://{$vboptions['menu_link_two']}">

<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="http://{$vboptions['menu_link_three']}">

<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="http://{$vboptions['menu_link_six']}">
<font color="#{$vboptions['menu_item_six_colour']}">{$vboptions['menu_item_six']}</a></td>
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="http://{$vboptions['menu_link_seven']}">

<font color="#{$vboptions['menu_item_nine_colour']}">{$vboptions['menu_item_nine']}</a></td></if>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
<!-- / #End Menu Control -->

And Replace with:
$menucontrol

If you'd like to change the window options for each settings you can edit the template to the code below for the time being:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

Just open up the template 'menucontrol', edit the code in bold to the menu option, for example _blank (Different options are included in the addon read me in the zip file :)) and copy the code and overwrite the current code in the template.

Hope this helps until I put it into the next version :)

2. http://html-color-codes.com/ - That's a good place to find some decent HEX codes - or if you have a graphics program such as Photoshop - you select the colour you'd like and the HEX code is below :)

Marky I don't think anyone else noticed this! This is going to be a killer mod, I am installing now and will throw $10 your way a little later this week. I know the hardest part of this mod will be that drop down JS menu. Of course that is what I have been waiting on.

I am not pressing you, but curious rather... Do you have an estimated time of arrival on that particular aspect of the mod?

BTW I have the option to _blank in, by default it was set to _parent, but _blank is not working like the changes are not taking effect. Anyone find a way through this? We would really hate to lose our members, they get lost easily and we prefer not using redirect scripts if we don't have to do all the extra work.

Thanks again for a great mod, I am installing today!

At the moment, unfortunatly work on the next version has been paused temporarily. As some of you may know, i'm currently working on http://www.vbdiscussion.com which will be a forum dedicated to the users of vBulletin, and for this I am currently making a custom tutorial modification for it and other such features. When the site has been finished, I will continue work on Menu Control :)

If you edit the template in the way I have mentioned HERE (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=903778&postcount=210) you can edit each link with different window settings, this may fix your problem :)

Sorry for not being clearer.

I installed your mod purely by your directions and had a complaint about this happening to others and found it was happening to me as well. That was in the below add position.

I moved it above and it cured it for some but not for me and the links kept appearing below. Doing the refresh on the templates and all.

So, I deleted the whole thing and it fixed it for everyone.

Then, since we needed it I added it back and used the no manual template change.

So far I am the only one the issue has returned for. But more might chime in.

My point is using purely your mod with it in the above position I am still getting the error and below I and some others got it.

But not everyone. Which is the confusing point.

That would seem to make it a PC or ISP related conflict with the mod I would think.

I don't have a clue on it and just wondered if anyone else has run into this.

I use XP and earthlink.

A real head scratcher for me.

I had added the MSN before but deleted it. Why? Such are really getting hit of late by spammers and such.

I added a IM script to our site that is completely site only.

Your talking about the problem where the dropdown menus don't work correct? Because if you are - it isn't to do with your computer. The last case that I saw of that problem, was that quite a huge slice of code had been removed from the navbar template, if you add that code it should work. I don't know the code right now, so I couldn't tell you, but by looking at your code it should be pretty simple. But no matter :p

If code was missing it should be affecting all site's members. It is not. Only me. My fellow admin and moderators are having no issues at all with it.

I just updated to 3.5.4. And it is still doing it. Even without the Menu Control.

So, I readded it for others.

And on top of that now, for me, _blank is not working.

If code is missing it was missing from the zip file from Vbulletin from both 3.5.3 and 3.5.4. Because I uploaded and overwrote and then reverted the templates.

Not blaming you for anything. Just this is the kind of thing I moved from phpBB to get away from. Don't need it again with a $160.00 price tag attached as well.

OK. Venting complete.:nervous:

Just wanted to ensure any doubters after speaking before your code is not at issue here at all. Don't want any false impressions left. That would not be fair to you.

I have reviewed my internet settings for java and such and see no issues.

It is hiding there somewhere. I just am not findiing where the issue resides.

It is so frustrating.

Even had one in the past that turned out to be an MS XP Security update. Had to remove it.

Sigh.

Can you do dropdowns with this hack?

You currently can't - it will be included in with the next release :)

Nice addon...

Is there an easy way to add a quick link to the admincp column on the left side of the admincp?

Missing Menu Control 1.3 in ibProArcade v2.5.4+ after upgrading to VB 3.5.4
Can't see where it goes wrong.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Regards,

Pim

You need to add it back in your navbar, however no point because I just upgraded from 3.5.3 to 3.5.4 and this now has a bug

Before It was working fine but now its putting http://www.gamerzneeds.net/forums/ before every url no matter what instead of only putting http:// before it.

I'm sure this is only a small edit but where should I make the change, or i think this needs to be fixed up.

Thanks
