VBA CMPS Guest Notice / Quick Register!

This is a module for VBA CMPS that will provide a simple touch to your board that may drive registration. Sometimes new members think they have to give out a bunch of personal information to register on a forum. Well, this will prove them wrong! Also, this is a good way to inform them why they should register and what benefits they get out of registering. You can modify the PHP file attached to suit your needs.

Installation:
Upload the guest.php to your modules directory

Then add the guestnotice.module in the adminCP under the VBA CMPS dropdown. Also, set the permissions so only unregistered or not logged in users can view this.

Once installed, edit the PHP file to your liking.

Its simple to install. I will not officially support this being I have ALOT of projects going on at the moment, however...I will pop in here from time to time and help out where I can.

Also, please note. If you have problems with spam bots registering on your site, I suggest that you not use this. Reason being is that the quick register does not use the captcha system (the picture with letters and numbers you type in upon registration if you have it enabled) and will make it easy for the bots to bypass. However, smaller boards wont really run into this problem.

Don't forget to click INSTALL!

we have "auto wellcome thread on reg" installed , enable it with the registration. & a simple like "plz dont forget to verify ur email to finalize"

True, this is a very cool CodMod but I can not allow auto-spamers to come in so easy.

yeah that is very true i see all that info in there too i have to edit it a bit...I just use the code from my own site rather tnah making it generic. Honestly, Im just too lazy to do it, but I will make an effort from now on.

Great way to improve registration rates. Installed.

Few things:

In Mozilla Firefox it will let me register even if I don't click on "Agree with Forum Rules" and there's no link under "Forum Rules" - I don't have this problem in IE.

Anyone else try this in Firefox?

One other thing would be nice to add - minimum age verification.

I enter all the details, and when I click Submit, I'm sent to an error page saying that I didn't enter the image verification text.

Any ideas?

had to modify it abit, because i put it in the middle range: www.schuelerfourm.net ;)

How do I get this to update what I've overwritten according to his spelling error, and the sevencitiesforum thing??????

I've done it in the .php file it created, the original guest.php file, and via the CMPS admin.

Still no worky?!

Still no worky?!It's in the guest.php. If you make the changes and you dont see it, maybe your page is cached. Clear your temp files & cookies.

Yea, turn off image verification in the admincp.

In the 3 days after I installed this, I have gained more members than ever before! Thanks!!!!!!!!

Installed it for 4 weeks now.

Got 38 normal members and 42 spambots from 3/4 different locations.
Disabled hack, took me 30mins to track and delete users.

To bad.. would be great if there was some kind of captcha available.. untill then I pass
