What is the difference between this Glossary and the vbGlossary addon?

Great update! I was waiting for this! Thanks a lot!

One issue was told already: the toggle of disable/enable the image set the other way, enabling->disables and vice versa.

SS92 - the other issue was my fault. Something messed up in the template. it had nothing to do with the mod - my bad ! Great job !

Painless upgrade.
I did notice that 'delete' doesn't work from the glossary pulldown - it just loads a blank page. It does work from admincp.

Bitg, if you want the latest version of vBGlossary, this would be it. Technically speaking Mindestic GlosPro 1.1.3 is vBGlossary 1.1.3. (update for 1.1.2) I would update to this version if you want to use the cross linking feature. Hope I'm making sense. So if your system still says vBGlossary you should update. ;)

I noticed that when the crosslink tooltip box showed up the glossary term and the word "Click" ran into each other. I found in the functions_glossary.php file

Hi,

Everything is working wonderfully for me except the crosslinking. I've enabled everything in the AdminCP - is there something else I need to do/enable to make it work?

btw, I think you already fixed this bug, but somehow it re-appeared

When you define a term, and the term is contained in a definition it links back to itself..ie

Velamen - A thick layer of corklike, water-absorbing cells surrounding the roots of epiphytic orchids. The Velamen acts much like a sponge when moisture is present and it contains canals and channels to move the water inward.

the word velamen will point back to its own definition

SS9267547 - I've noticed that I can't edit the titles of glossary terms - at the very least - change their case - FYI.

Other than that and the delete bug I mentioned with the pulldown, it appears to be working as designed.

i noticed in the readme files it states
"Crosslinking does not work with all php / server versions. Fix has not been confired yet with users having this issue"

i was wondering what version of php and server versions are running the crosslinking in the forums.

it's wierd because crosslinking in the glossary works just fine, but nothing for the forums :/

ok, so after i posted this i went back into the forum and crosslinking sort of works. it takes away the formatting of the posts like line spaceing and inserts <br /> instead and crosslinks it to the glossary. (yes there is a BR term in there and thats why it happens) i don't want to remove the br term from the glossary because, well, it's needed lol

so,
is there anyway to make this feature "smart"?

crosslinking seams to be working but only for certain users.

my forum is still in test mode but here is a thread with some examples:

Renada: I think I messed something up with the crosslink option, you might have to disable it to make it enable lol. As well check the permissions and see if your usergroup can use the glossary. Check and see if that fixes the problem.

bwack: From what I see on your forums its an issue with the hack. It won't crosslink any terms if they are the first word in a sentance, well some sometimes haha. Its not perfect and still needs work.

Sure, the pulldown option 'edit glossary' to the right of the entry allows you to edit it, but does not save the change even though it says it was successful. I have to edit the title from the admincp.

I've been adding Glossary Items for nearly an hour when a tester contacted me to tell me that he's seeing the following error on pages inside and outside of the Glossary.

Warning: preg_replace(): Compilation failed: missing ) at offset 29 in /includes/functions_glossary.php on line 56

An example would be if you were to click on a Glossary term, you get the Glossary term, but you also get the error at the top of the page (Above the header)

I'm running VBulletin v3.5.4 with vBAdvanced v2.1.0
GlosPro Version 1.1.3

I've set the permissions so that you can see the errors for your self:

Note: I do not have a link on the site anywhere yet since I'm still adding terms etc... To access the the glossary, you'll need to key in the address manually.

I'm also having the delete problem. Delete works from the admincp but not from the glossary page on my forums.

Looks like the GLOSSARY_DELETE template doesn't exist.

Try disabling crosslinking, just a hunch.

Hi Lucas! This is a great addition to my forum! We love it and the members are very happy too. I do have two things I would like to ask about.

1. Is there a way to limit the glossary so that it will only highlight/link one term per thread instead of just per post? For example: If a member types 'Cactus' in a post, and that word is in the database, the glossary will link it one time within that post; however, if the next person also types the word 'cactus' the glossary will link that term again in the next post. Within the same thread, it starts to become a bit of overkill. I would love it if there were a way to make it so that it would not repeat a word within a thread until say five posts down, or the next page, etc...

2. Is there any way to get the glossary to see the difference between Cactus and cactus. I put the term in lower case inside the database, but when a user types the proper name, it forces the word to be lower case because that is the way the word is inside the glossary. I would have the same problem if the word were capitalized in the glossary, just in reverse.

I hope you or someone who is more familiar with this awesome modification can help!

Hey! This is the most wonderful hack in the universe!

I seem to be having a bit of an issue, though. I tried to make the tooltip show $glossarydescription, and truncate it, which would work, but I had a problem: the tooltip breaks if the description contains another crosslink entry.

Can anyone think of a possible solution to this dilemma?

Is there a way to add a feature controlled on/off in admincp to allow certain usergroups to be able to turn the glossary on/off on an individual basis. I have several members that dont like to use the glassary and want to turn it off for them?

Great hack! I'm using it as a "Comic Book Glossary" which provides biographies, etc for super heroes, teams and significant items in the comic book world.

My question is this, whe you click on a category it lists however many definitions you specify, but it also lists the entire definition. Is there a way to only list the definition title, which links to the actual defiinition?

I tried editing the template simply named glossary assuming that would reflect the changes I made when visiting forum/glossary.php, but to no avail. :(

I just want to insert a welcome message explaining what it is and what it does etc.

I have a slight issue that I want to reslove before I allow members to use this hack. Currently I can only do a search on terms or words that are 3 at least three characters long or I get this message

Please enter a term longer than 3 characters to do a partial search on.


I want my users to be able to search with a minimum of two characters instaead of three, how do I change this?

I've tried to change the setting in admincp under "Search Index Minimum Word Length" to 2 and still no go? Help Please

I went ahead and installed, having same delete question...

With all of the posts in this message, has anyone figured this out yet?

Best work aorund is just doing it via AdminCP panel...

i hv activated a usergroup permission on the following:

glossory permission>can view, can add, can edit, can delete.

But when i tested it, i can't get can delete function. Anyone knows how i can go about this?

Well its been quite a while, in the past few months I haven’t had much time at all to work on any scripts on my free time so I'm sorry for the lack of support and updates. In fact it’s been so long since I worked on anything that I've been debating with myself if I should even continue work with this hack.

Nevertheless at this time I've decided to do some minimal work on the script however with the release of new vBulletin versions it will be awhile before I figure out where things are and before there is a new update released. Current plan is to have a new release out within 3 weeks time. Now when it comes to the new release there will most likely will only be a very small update for vBulletin 3.5.x series of this hack and after that there will be no more development for this series. This hack will now be ported over to work with 3.6.x series which in fact will most likely still work with the 3.5.x series but I will not be fixing any issue the script might have with older versions.

Now with the upcoming update I have reviewed all issues in this thread since I've left that have been reported and I will see if I can figure a way to fix them. Now as for support questions, while officially this hack will be "as is" so if you don't like it don't use it lol. Also I will not have time to answer to many technical support questions. I will try to answer a few questions in the next week, that includes yours bada_bing. You all have a good day now.

With the forum specific option I also liked but we'll see if I can come up with a solution to that. As for the search option, let me know if you still want a temp solution to the character limit for the search option, if you can wait I have added a new option in the admincp so you can specify what you want.

louis_chypher: Thank you for bringing the two term issue, will look into that and see if I can figure out a solution to that.

kether1: I'm not sure if I can do a per thread option, but I'll need to find out if anyone else would really find it useful before I start on a solution on that. Perhaps for performance side of things it would be worth checking out. I would like more feedback on this issue. With the glossary figuring out the difference between lower case and capitalized text, I haven’t figured a way out with this. Feedback on this from other users would be good.

Coach_Guru: The ext_term.gif issue is something I missed in the CSS and I think this issue has been addressed now. Will be released on next update.

Glad to hear you liked my feature requests.. As to the character restrictions on search if you can give me a rough estimated time for the next release I can wait HOPEFULLY though the new version is written for 3.5.x also PLEASE PLEASE.. Else I may need the temp fix for now

Well I'm ahead of schedule so the release for 12/09/2006 won't happen, its going to be now. I'm still on 3.5.4, once I upgrade to the 3.6.4 (within few weeks) will 1.1.4 glossary work on both versions of vB ? I mean, safe to upgrade, will it work on 3.5.4.

dendrob: There is alway a risk with this kindd of stuff. However if you wish to upgrade for the next forum version I already released a new version for 3.6.X. Simply upgrade when the new forums ready.

btw, suggestion that would be very useful. I see you're planning the:

"Adding custom field(s) for each glossary term. (0% Complete)"

could you also set it so you can specify custom fields for categories?

ie. say you have a category for basic definitions (no fields required) and a category for "flowers", they will need extra fields

This way if somone enters a term to the glossary they won't have extra fields to fill in, but if somone enters a flower,

then they will fill in
Scientific Name:
Range:
Growing conditions:
Soil type:
etc, etc

This would come in very handy for me and I'm sure others wouldn't mind it either.

let me know if something like that would be possible

I think that would be possiable, still havn't figure how to do this yet lol, however if anything was added to the mod it would be for the 3.6.X series of the mod.

An update on what we have found with the two term issue.

The issue crops up with when a glossary word has a subset word that is also defined in the glossary; such as the case of the words 'play' and 'play party'.
When the word 'play party' is used then there is an error (as previously described). For now we have removed from the glossary the word 'play'.

There are issues with the crosslinking feature. If you would like to use it you can try the vb 3.6 version which should work fine on 3.5 boards at this time anyway. Of course the crosslink feature for 3.6 version isn't at 100% yet either lol. :)

Is there vB code that we can use for the glossary? Lets say the glossary crossliinking is off but I want a cross link to the glossary then I use [glospro]the word to cross link to[/glosspro] or if the glossary cross linking is on but I wish not to have a word cross link then I might use the word I do not want to cross link to?

by the way, this works fine on 3.6.7 pl1. You can use this for the meantime till he fixed the improved crosslinking feature on 1.2.2 although this version worked super fine.

One more question. When a term is submitted the case get changed from capital to small letter. For example, I submitted IRCA and it is displayed as irca? Anybody know who can I fix that?

Not sure that this is of any help but I have this version http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=132632 working on 3.6.2 with no issues and the cross-link fearture actually works. I also installed Mindestic GlosPro 1.2.2 for 3.6x on my VB 3.5.x and all works good except the pop-up bubble does not work, now if I can get that working would be great.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue that when you move your mouse over a word that is defined in the glossary it does not format the text correctly. You can see my my screenshot. On my other site everything works good becuase when you move your mouse over a word that is in the glossary it's suppose to wrap the definision and change the background color.

This is an excellent mod, I'm surprised all this work is just being trashed. I'd hope somone would at least fix the security issues. This mod has a lot of potential too, it could be used as a database for all kinds of cataloging purposes, not just glossary.

to display. How can I add it it?
