View Full Version : Miserable users
I suspect it's more to do with the google accelerator you seem to be using, try cutting that out.

I tried it without the google accelerator but it makes no difference.
I'm stumped.
Sorry, no idea really - something local to your setup is giving you a generic server error.
Try reducing the response time settings (you have them at 20/60).

I would like to know if it's possible to change the usergoups ID by the users ID ?
Nope, there is no such ability.

is there anyway for the admin to add a member to the miserable usergroup (as a secondary usergroup) without the supermods or mods being able to see that they have that indicated as a secondary usergroup?
Is there a way to add a user just by adding his user name? So much simpler than IPs and User Groups... :)

you need to create the miserable user group first then from admincp you can search any username you want to add to it from there
Sure, but I don't really want to create more user groups (I have enough as it is!). Can the author modify the hack slightly to include this option?

Um, probably not...you need to make a new usergroup for miserable users.

You cannot do that, no will such a feature be added to this.
Hmm, ok. Thanks anyway. :(
How do mods see what user groups there are if they're not listed in Forum Leaders?

THANKS!

is there any chance that this plugin is slowing the forum load time? It doesn't happen in FF, but in IE I feel it's painfully slow to load.

You didn't make yourself a Miserable User, did you?

Check again, or import it again.

Not unless you made yourself a member of the MU group.

I can't use this bec. each user group has a color and if I made another user group they will know what's up. I just keep them where they are "registered" and use forum masks to keep them out.

Use MU as a secondary group, not a primary. If you give the MU no access to anything, it will be overriden by the permissions of your primary usergroup BUT the effects of the MU will be applied. This is how my own forum is set, plus another I'm co-admin on. It works perfectly, and is a very useful tool.

Hello, I need to know, this hack will add some query to the system and if it could overload the server.
What's the impact to the server performance? I've got a very large forum.
You would not be able to measure it.

I like this hack, thanks so much for it (it takes care of some of my problems with out being an ass about it).
I don't know if it's a good idea or not, but what I have done is set the 'miserable user' user group as a 'banned' user group (with an access level of a normal user). That way my Moderators can set a member as a miserable user, and for a certain amount of time (I also have a quick ban function to make it even easier).

You would not be able to measure it.
Sorry Paul M, I'm not english spoken: you mean that the this mod couldn't add heavy queries to the system?
youradhere4222
20 Nov 2007, 19:01
He's saying he doesn't know, because it is impossible to measure how many queries it uses.
Um, no ........... I know precisely how many "queries" this uses - exactly zero.
You can't measure the "impact to the server performance" because it's too small to measure.

After setting up my forum and moving the database from my phpBB forum to the vB, I deleted Impex as instructed. Doing so removed the Import option in my CP.
Now I want to install the Miserable User hack. Do I need to reinstall all of Impex? If not, which files should I upload to my server so I can do imports like this?
Chimp
Impex is just for importing databases, once you have done that you never use it again.
You import the product using the plugin/product manager.

hi
when Miserable Users try to login I get these kinds of errors
Database error in vBulletin 3.6.5:

Just a post to say thank you, it's working perfectly ^^
You're on the 'to donate to' list.
Hi guys
Somehow I’m completely blowing it. This is the first mod/hack I’ve tried to install and I followed the directions to add it as a new product.
Download to desktop
Unzip
Go to Plugin-products system/
upload the XML file from your computer
browse select file MU.xml
import the XML file from your server = blank
Allow Overwrite = yes
Hit import
I get this error “No file uploaded and no local file found.”
I get exactly the same message when I try and do the welcome message hack.
I’m running Latest version available: 3.6.8 Patch Level 2
I’ve tried this from both my laptop and workstation so it’s not because of an internal firewall.
So I must be missing something obvious I don’t have enabled or???
Lil help for me and my noobieness would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I too installed the hack on vBulletin 3.6.8 Patch Level 2 today, and it works perfectly. Thanks Paul M, great job.
I imported the XML file from my PC using the admin cp /Plugin & Products/Manage Products and scroll to bottom and select Add/Import Product.
Browse to the file location on your PC and click import.
Create 'miserable users' usergroup and set the id of this group.
You can set your preffered setting for this hack in vBulletin Options / Miserable Users.
Hope this helps m8.
Hit import
I get this error “No file uploaded and no local file found.”
I get exactly the same message when I try and do the welcome message hack.
You have some sort of server configuration problem, it is not uploading the files to import them.

Could this hack be causing one of the users to have the following problem?
"get the blue internet explorer cannot display this webpage"
Thank you for your quick response Paul. I assumed as much that it’s a hosting company’s server. I thought I was following the directions they seemed simple enough.
Thanks again for the hack – just wish I could get it to work :)

Sorry if I am asking a repeat question, but I uploaded this mod and tested it. Every time i click something it goes to a white screen. i tried about 7 times and every time is the same. I would like some users to be miserable, not leave forever. Just curious if this is normal. Thanks.
No idea without full access to your forum, but it doesnt sound right.

Hi, mine doesn't work as i create a member to test it.
My miserable user is in id 9, however after i assign it to miserable user , the user id is still at id 2 (reg users) Did i assign any number wrongly? i am using 3.6.8
Solved: i didn't go to the vbulletin options to key in my user group ID for miserable user.
Thanks.

Hi,
thanks for this hack!
I have a special problem: I want to have all users belonging to a certain country as miserable users.
In the AdminCP I can enter single IP adresses.
I can get complete IPDeny country lists from the internet but they are in a special format such as 41.209.0.0/18 which means the range from 0 to 18
Do you see any chance to insert this in your program? Or how do I enter the ranges correctly in the AdminCP?
Thank you.
Brady
You cannot use the format 41.209.0.0/18 - but I think (from memory) you can put 41.209. which will MU any address starting with 41.209
The 3.7 version does .....
I am getting a data base error now since I went to vBulletin 3.6.10. It was not happening at all when I used the hack on a member with version 3.6.8

Have you tried uninstalling the mod and installing it again after you upgraded your vbulletin? As far as I know, vbulletin 3.6.10 uses a security token and has affected many other mods. I clean installed this mod after upgrading from 3.6.8 to 3.6.10 and it worked just fine.
The CSRF security token has no bearing on this mod.

This is just one of the most inventive/amazing Mods I've ever seen...! :D
I 'heard' about it here on vb.org some two months ago and I never though I would have to use it... (but I had to!)
It works like a charm!!! Just GREAT!
I still have my board on v3.6.8 and until the upgrade to 3.7 comes, I would like to ask you this:
When I upgrade my board to 3.7, should I uninstall first your 3.6.x Mod? Thank you so very much!

So I can install it on my 3.7 site? The latest version I see is for 3.6
Try reading the nice big pink note in the first post. :)

I would explain what it's for... that way they can use this WHEN/IF it's ever required, I have not had the need to use mine YET as everyone is decent on our forums but remember to show other admins how to use the mods else why install ;) ?
I do have it ready though lol so thanks again Paul for yet another great mod :D
