Hey all ;)

I present my second style: "Chestnut"


INSTRUCTIONS ON INSTALLATION:

1. Extract ZIP folder.
2. Upload folder found within Upload folder into your forum images directory (eg for Chestnut, upload the chestnut folder into your vBulletin 3.6 images folder).
3. Log into your admin control panel.
4. Choose Styles -> Download/Upload Styles
5. Under Import Style XML File, click on "Browse..."
6. Find the Upload folder (from the ZIP you downloaded). Select the file the file that ends with .xml (there should be only one file).
Include file .xml for vB3.6, vB3.6.1, vB3.6.2,vB3.6.3 and vB3.6.4 ;)
Include .psd files
Style extensibleScreen in french, but buttons english in .zip files ;)

Hi! I absolutely love this style. It looks so smooth and professional, and really helped me with a major relaunch I did for my site.

I have a question. I see you released a new update. I have made some modifications to this style on my board. If I install the update, will I lose any of the modifications I have made to it? If so, is there an alternate way to fix what the update fixes without installing the update? Thanks!

all seems to work fine now, it was an issue with importing the style and the footer templat kept getting truncated, i mnaually added the template and its ok now.

This is a very nice theme. But after I installed it - it told me this: There are currently 14 customized template(s) that need to be updated or reverted. Some sections of vBulletin may not function if you do not do this!

The 14 files are calendar, edit post, forum display, member info, moderation posts, modify profile pic, modify signature, new thread, pm_messagelist, postbit legacy, search forums, showthread, subscribe, & user infraction.

I noticed it after installing this them...I uninstalled & it went away. I reinstalled & it came back. So it must be your theme. Why & what can I do because this is a VERY sweet theme & I'd really like to keep it.

If all these pages are working does it matter if I get an error message or not? Can't I just live with it? Thanks for the theme & any help. :=)

Since I just did this...I can tell you that you must add the english buttons to both buttons & misc. And let it overwrite what you have there. ;)

I have yet another problem however. I have the arcade mod installed & can't edit the navbar file to add the link (plus how would I add the button). The stuff it's telling me to look for in the navbar file (<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="calendar.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[calendar]</a></td>) isn't there. Yet I can see a calendar link??? :-/

Judge, you need and can do that in de psd files. I already changed almost all my buttons into Dutch Language :) :)

tab, you forgot to make a category where you list your forums in. Example:

First Block (category)
- Open Forum (forum)
- Music (forum)
- Staff forum (forum)


Do that and you'll see that it will appear correctly again.

Nik -- I had the same problem, and discovered that you also need to copy the english buttons into the misc folder -- most of the buttons reside there.

start up your ftp program and upload the images folder to your forum root, replace the french buttons with the english ones if you feel like it...

The only problem is that the image verification does'nt work when you use this style, it keeps returning the error that the string you typed in does'nt match, when you revert to the default style then it does work so I know it's not the board but style related.

Merge Into Style - (Creat new style)
Ignore Style Version - No

I am not good at php, I added simple links with the default style before but this looks pretty hard to me,
I couldnt even find the other links in navbar template,
İn header template I found them but I can only change an existing link to another, for example I changed FAQ to downloads..
But I have to add new links, I am ok with psd's but I couldn find how to put them in the code, esspecialy "over" ones..

Board looks great.. but when I click to a link, or refresh a page, board mainly expands and comes to original size again..

When I click any link in the forum it moves to right, look at the arrows there is no space there. This happens for a second only but very annoying.. everytihng moves..

There are Zoints SEO, Zoints Tags, and some little hack on the forum. I add one extra button to navbar. I dont remember if it was still moving before adding the extra button. Main Table Width is %100

What an amazing skin. I found it straightforward to customize. I chose this because we're an academic site, and it was difficult to find something that I could adapt to our aesthetic style. Many layouts try to reach out and grab the attention of your skull. What we were after was a template that allowed the look of our organization to transcend that of the interface. We wanted a minimalist approach. I also need this to be simple, because like many of you I only have to decorate vB when all older templates are no longer compatable with the latest release of software, making each upgrade a learning curve.

Our look had already been established. Under our previous version (2.3 -- yeah, I know, we didn't upgrade for a very long time) I had limited success.

Now with v.3.6.2, a lot can be done directly in the AdminCP instead of me hacking the files directly.

This is what I've done with it, and it only took me a few days.

My main site is http://swordforum.com/ -- so the challenge was to customize Chestnut to look like my main site.

Here are the results:

The only significant code changing was with the background image aligntment and positioning -- that was done in the CSS file. I kept the "left.gif" and "right.gif" as transparent GIFs with a 1 px vertical line to give the layout an outline. Keeping them also created some fake left- and right-padding which ended up looking nice.

I like the mouse-over fades, so I customized it, so different antique swords appear. I also customized the navbits to use swords instead of folders.

So here is a bow of respect to the Chestnut author! Merci beaucoup, Allan-san!

P.S. One bug I found was that if you have a forum category that serves as its own lone forum, the layout is stretched extremely wide. To solve this, I created a forum category and move that forum as a child of that category. Once I did this, the forum listing was the same width as the other boxes.

^^ make it 900 that might help. I had the same problem. Percentages won't help in this case, u'll need to use pixel measurements. If 900 is not right then make necessary adjustments accordingly like 905, 890, 910 etc, whichever works out for u.

name of that particular menu is navbar_search...which you find in vbulletin_menu.js...in /clientscript/...at the top of that script there's some tutorial about making new ones...i'm sure you can figure it out...

Initially I thought it could be vBSEO or other plugins I've installed that was causing the problems. But after I disable plugin globally via config.php, it became evident that it wasn't the case. I chose "Create New Style" with "No Parent Style" when importing, so it wasn't carrying anything over from my modified base vBulletin style.

I'm not sure what is the cause, but looking at the HTML, and passing it through validator, it seems to be complaining about bad placement of a few HTML elements. Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause?

I have deleted the chestnut style and installed the 3.6.3 version again (to see if I perhaps used the wrong xml file) after you fixed the missing </if> statement for the modifyavatar template, but the notice above remains. What am I doing wrong? Seems like all other chestnut users don't have this?

I'm running into something similar. First off.. I love this style. Great job!

The problem I'm having is when I add a new forum, it appears to be broken out of the table. All child forums under the main forum look good.

If you set a forum as category, then you must add a regular forum to that category, otherwise it will show not good.

I have seen this before when I used this style. It has something to do with your first forum and categories. Check it out and see if you forgot to set a forum to Category. Maybe its the "The Mended Drum" forum or the one that comes after it.

It's because there is no category Adonfun, however that is a valid forum layout and I'd be grateful if someone can tell me what I need to edit (it's confusing in the styles section), as all the other themes for the site handle it correctly.

Some other people in this thread had the same issue and selecting a forum as category solved their problem. If this doesn't solve the issue on your board then someone else might have the answer for you.

I've solved it by adding the forum last post thread header, however there is now a fault at the bottom (only visible to admins) I can't find where the style gets $forumbits from, where the problem lies.

It's easy to make your own fluid version.

Open up the xml file of you choice (Chestnut-style_vB3.6.4.xml)

Search for this line in the XML file

All I've done is change the width (which was set to 950 to 100%. Then just upload the XML in the standard way and name it Chestnut Fluid.

I've noticed that the none fluid site gets squashed if you add it too vbadvanced, it looks a shambles in the UserCP / Avatar section, I didn't know how to change the number of avatars it shows in the Uploaded Avatar section, if it showed 4 instead of 5 it would be great.

I alsoo noticed that you've hard coded the width in a number of areas like showthreads etc, this doesn't help with vbadvanced as it pushes it all out on the right and if an image is too large for the page it also cuts it.

Just the spacing of my code, it wasn't parsing it correctly so it wouldn't work.

I actually used the psd files that came with it and created a button that said reply to replace the quote button myself. named it the same as the quote button (which I think is actually reply, lol) and switched it out. It only took a couple of seconds.


If anyone has vbadvanced with this style could you please help me with the buttons (on the navbar)? I am having humongo difficulties figuring it out myself.

Nevermind, we got our buttons on.

Now we have another issue. lol When you rollover the UserCP button the rollover image shows up over the home button instead of where it belongs...

norollover shows the buttons where they are. the other (although printscreen doesn't capture the mouse) is what happens when I put my mouse over the UserCP button.

Michael_Jim, something got reverted. You can either reinstall the skin without reverting the 15 lovely templates, or you can go into main css.

Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Main CSS (from the drop down beside chestnut)

Go to "Category Strips" and copy the path that's in the () (I changed mine so I can't remember the default)

Keep scrolling down to "Popup Menu Controls" and replace the path that's in there.

It should look like: #869BBF url() repeat-x top left

with the same path as category strips in the ()

The problem i am having is that when you click the parent root of a forum the template get's all messed and adds another row a blank forum, as you can see in the first pic.

2nd pic, it gets totally deranged and nasty looking..

That part of the forum is invisible and used as a link for the navbar.

Allan, I was wondering whether or not this style has thread ratings viewable on the forum indexes or not. I have thread rating enabled on my forums, but below the Rating area in the forum, the only icons I ever see are those denoting a stickied thread.

This makes me think that there is some code missing to make thread ratings display in the forum index. Any help?

They both have a drop down menu and it seems to do a problem. I tried it with other styles I have on my forum as well and they don't do that. Any idea?

Have another question. I realized that if the image is too big or, for examples the smilies box, it goes out of the box. I still can see the rest of the image but some of my users can't. Any idea how to fix this?

Hi Allan,

this Style is fantastic. 3 days ago I started working with vBulletin and I will change my running Board soon to it.
I think I will use your style as standard there.
It's a german Board so i have to translate all the Buttons into german.
Of course it's no problem to do this with your psds but maybe you have the complete set as psd so I just have to change the buttons, press "save" and they will be automatically saved into the correct names?
If not it's absolutely no problem, I will do this anyway ;)

Am I allowed to share the germen buttons with other Users in this Thread and maybe also to set a Link in a german Supportboard? I think I will not be the only one this would be useful for.

Ok, when I posted my kudos and thanks, I only had one ROOT forum folder, That is to say:

When PARENT 2 is added, the TABLE WIDTH goes all hectic, and seems to be fluid rather than fixed. This looks horrible.

What would cause an inconsistency such as this? Deleting the PARENT 2 structure restores the shape and dimensions of the DEFAULT Chestnut settings.

you'll need photoshop... open the .psd that are found in the PSD folder that you want to edit. click on the layer with the Text and change it to whatever you want... then save them with a new name.

Been using Chestnut for a while.. damn fine style. A user just pointed out to me that there is no 'edit' button to modify posts... and I can verify that it's not showing up.

I have 'quick edit' set to yes in the admin, am I missing something? The odd thing is that the 'Site' button is where 'Edit' is normally located, could this be part of the problem?

Anyone run into this??

May I know how to add more buttons to he navbar? It gives me a JSX or whatever error saying the hoverover is not correct when the path is clearly correct. A small tutorial would be helpful! Also, if there is a way to add a second header navbar, please tell!

Open up the included PSD's and edit them with photoshop. Replace the text with your own and save as logo.gif and re-upload to chestnut/misc/ and replace the logo.gif that already exists in there.

Now can the creator answer my question? :D

It's compatible 100% with vB3.6.5 because thre aren't changes of templates between vB 3.6.4 and vB 3.6.5

For icones, very little is of origin.
