What is this used for?
I run a motorcycle forum. Unfortunately the name of the game is injuries and death. It's hard losing a member, but sometimes, it's just as hard remembering that member later on. This page is dedicated to the loss of a good friend of mine, and a great forum member as well.
Is this your first mod?
Yes it is. I am not a programmer and learned enough to get this working after my friend had passed away.
How does it work?
You create a usergroup for your fallen members. When a member is moved into that usergroup they'll show up on this page with a simple anchor driven menu. There is 2 Profile fields which you need to populate with data which will show the members last death date and biography/obituary.

It is - very easily as well. I assume you're thinking of a staff page - which I'm working on and will be releasing later. That's something with a little bit more end user customization and will easily be changeable by moderators and admins via their usercp. So it's more advanced then this and will take me a little while.

Although I don't need it now (and hopefully won't need it in the future), this is some great work.
Sorry for your thread dude :(
sad to see people die and you come up with a good idea that can be used for other things besides fallen members.
Nice hack m8

Id love to see this work with more then 1 user group (this is something I can use for a Hall of Fame listing) - We have more then 1 level of HOF user group. Being able to pull more then 1 group, being able to pull some custom profile fields, and to be able to sort the way the usergroups show would be great....just some suggestions for other uses.

Is it possible for me to change the date format to a British Date format. If it is, how do I go about it?
Many thanks

What is a british date format - can you give me an example? It pulls the birthday right out of vBulletin that the member puts in on sign up - and the end date is specified by you - which you can put in any way you want. If you need to change the - in between the dates that is easy - just a template edit.

Ok. When you enter the ripdate you can change the format right in the profile. I'll work on figuring out how vB changes the birthday and post that up.

New version uploaded - you can swap the birthday from the vBulletin Options --> Remember Fallen Members. And in the profile field just enter the RIP Date in the format you want it in.
To upgrade - upload the new remember.php. In the product manager upload the product-remember.xml and choose allow overwrite.

Nice hack. Although I feel if you have that many people dying on your forum, lol there are bigger problems to worry about then. ;)

It's not a video game forum or a vbulletin help forum. It's a motorcycle (mostly sportbike) forum. Unfortunately motorcycle riders get the short end of of the stick in an accident. This is just a way to remember those members who we have lost. I wish we could stop all the deaths.

When I first saw this, I wasn't expecting to ever have a use for it, but we lost our first member that we're aware the other day and are trying to come up with ways to make a tribute to him.

I had lost 2 members previously in the year but did not know them. But I just lost someone who was a friend first and member second. That's when I came up with this. It sucks losing friends and members of your on-line community - sorry to hear about your loss :(

Great glad to see it still works on the newer versions. I need to find some time to get back into this stuff.
Installed on 3.6.8 Patch Level 2 without a hitch. It all works perfectly. :)
We lost a 17yr old member to a vehicle accident today and this mod is perfect for her friends and especially her brother who is also a member but survived the accident. Awesome idea thanks :)
Just an FYI to let you know this works on 3.8.2. Thanks for the mod. I have an automotive forum that is geared around high performance cars and sadly, we lose people as well.
Curious also...
Would there be a way to add the ability for forum members to leave a comment for individual fallen members? Basically, you could click on the biography and see a list of comments, prayers, memories, etc that the other members have left.
Sending them to a moderation queue would be ideal, to ensure nothing inappropriate makes it onto the page.
Hi,
Does anyone know if the Fallen Members mod works on vb 4?

Hi,
Does anyone know if the Fallen Members mod works on vb 4?
Regards
Being that this is for 3.5, I highly doubt it will work with vB 4
Hi,
Yeah as suggested the templates are not compatible with vb 4.
Thanks

Hi, I'm also interested as to whether anyone might be working on this or a similar mod for v.4...
cheers,
Ian
We just moved to v4 and this is one mod that I would really like to get back up and running. The least we can do for our fallen friends is remember them.
I have reached out to the developer on his website to see if he will update this for vb4 or mark the code as re-usable so another developer may do so.
