Use Profile Picture or Signature Picture instead of Avatar inside postbit

Basically the title says it all. I am wanting to replace the avatar display in the postbit with profile picture or signature picture. How can I do that? I know there must be an easy way, just need to get used to the right variables...

I don't think this would be possible with just with changing variables in the postbit template, but most likely a plugin hooked at postbit_display_start will be needed to load the profile picture from the database.
