i ended up just uninstalling and reinstalling...

everything works fine except now i get this ever when i go to edit my options

the closes thing is

mgc_cb_evo/classes/class_display.php

i think its a bug... it might have been like that in the older version...

Yes this has been reported as a bug, and there is a fix for it.

You have to replace the path. Check a few pages back. I think about 3-6 pages back.

And look for vBDev post that contains the paths.

Put it in your forum/Images directory.

Some users have more than 1 style, the default style. And if you want the chatbox to work for all your styles, you'll have to upload the images in all those style directories (IIRC).

For some reason, the time is wrong int he chatbox for all of my users. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't seem to work.

My current time is 2:40PM but it is appearing as 9:00AM when I post.

Any ideas as to why this would be?

I think it gets the time from the server your site is hosted. I get a difference of 2 hours (earlier) too.

Well the time of VB and your chatbox display the exact same thing. But on my own machine its 2 hours later.

The time in vb options are correctly set for my region. I'll look into this issue.

Firefox reports no error from what I saw and I found it interesting that once I entered enough chats to take the /me command I had typed off of the screen, Explorer allowed me to continue however, never showed the actual /me text. (It actually submitted the /me text but never did display it - not even in the archive where Firefox was complete) Hows that for an oddity?

I'll post the question regarding the alt1/alt2 issue on the arcade support area but which StyleVar should I look at to change the time within the chats appearance? (if thats actually where I should be looking)

Yes, look for option "Width of the chatbox when integrated to a page of the forum" , in "General options".

What really baked my cookies was that if I opened Firefox, and removed the /me chat, I could refresh Explorer and all was well. Firefox showed the /me text perfectly in the chat window and in the Archive so it did get submitted ~ Explorer simply stalled on submission (Little animated circle did it's thing forever and other users were unable to chat (I asked, they too were on Explorer). Explorer would also return to a functional state if I disable the /me command.

You nailed it there! I opened ARCADE.CSS and as you probably expected, ALT1/ALT2 were in use. I removed both references and I can at least see the times and such now as they were black on my present black background.. .

(Now tempted to delete the entirety of ARCADE.CSS to see if some other illnesses go away...)

i use vb 3.7.2

also after autorefresh in open mode it raises the height no space than between chatbox and forum it is fixed after new collapse u can see on the screen below

is this specific group the primary user's group? If not I think the primary's permissions would overwrite the secondary.

i.e. If person A belonged to Registered as primary and NoBBCode for secondary, because the registered users group can use bbcode it ignores that of the secondary... now if you set NoBBCode as the primary group it should prevent them from using it.

Yeah, it's their primary and only usergroup.

If you want a group not to be able to post bbcode, go into the usergroup settings for that group and turn off bbcode under the chatbox settings.

Seems any text is accepted but not able to display with the other chats in IE. I typed test, 'test' with single quotes and "test" with double quotes just to try to figure out anything to make it work but once sent, the chat window in IE would freeze with only the refresh spinning icon continually spinning. Other users were obviously unable to chat until I deleted the chat with /me in it. Firefox displayed each with no problems.

Had to import the product again to solve it and just leave it turned off... as yet haven't found a way to fully remove it without database errors.

There is a readme file that came with this product. It explains how to install it, but also how to uninstall it. Follow the instructions and you should be fine.

Ive tried pretty much any browser. Fire Fox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Safari.

I works perfectly my PC and my fathers on all these browsers but the chatbox doesnt work on the laptop, and a few people registered on my site.

If you ban someone using the /ban syntax without setting a day amount, I believe its just a cron job so it will unban them automatically after a certain time. If you ban them for a certain amount of days, just use /ban show

OK, here's my problem:
I have two styles installed, one white and one black. At the beginning, a user's font in the chatroom looks white if you have the black style and black if you have the white style, just like it should be. Now, if the user goes to his control panel and changes the color and then changes back to "use default color", it becomes black - or whatever color is set as default in that user's usergroup permissions. This means that users with the black style can't see what he's writing. I've currently set the default color to green, so that it's visible in both styles, but I'd like to get it to work like it should - white on black, black on white.
Also, is there a way to exclude specific colors from the users selection? So that I can exclude black and white (or any color that isn't viewable in both styles)?

In options "Display and position" its the top 2 options. Select in that dropdown menu "above the forums". And you should be seeing them at the top of all pages.

Yep there was in that earlier version but as almost no users used it I removed it to simplify the install process.

What you can do is have a look at the code and tell me locations you could be interested to have hooks and I could consider adding them ?

No the chatbox doesn't allow that but that's pretty interesting, I am adding this to the request list.

At the beginning, a user's font in the chatroom looks white if you have the black style and black if you have the white style, just like it should be. Now, if the user goes to his control panel and changes the color and then changes back to "use default color", it becomes black - or whatever color is set as default in that user's usergroup permissions. This means that users with the black style can't see what he's writing. I've currently set the default color to green, so that it's visible in both styles, but I'd like to get it to work like it should - white on black, black on white.
Also, is there a way to exclude specific colors from the users selection? So that I can exclude black and white (or any color that isn't viewable in both styles)?

When you are on any page with the chatbox active, just type this in the browser address bar:
javascript:display_channel(1);

Change the number around to go to other channels.

I tested this in FF latest version.

The current functionality only adds a button to a channel. The only thing that stops someone from entering a restricted channel is that the button is gone. The code to go to the channel still works, as there are no permission checks for the function.

I was about to install this but saw in the instructions that you want me to overwrite my forums' language file? That makes me a little nervous...

I'm sure it's for phrases and such but why doesn't the product import those, as is usually done?

Also, the reason I wanted to try this over vSA is because Valter's chatbox doesn't work with the custom pages (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=232324) mod. I want the chatbox directly on a custom page, not anywhere else on the forum. Would that be possible with this?

One more thing - the demo link to the forumcoding forums leads you to an index with no relevant links to any chatbox demo, unless I missed something?

Thanks for the assist but I must have lost my eyesight or something (I am old you know).

I can't seem to find a reference to the log out problem at all. I did fail to mention vb 4.0.4 and mod version 3.0 but still, I can't seem to locate a reference to logging out, or "var chatid = jchats[i].getElementsByTagName('chatid')[0].firstChild.nodeValue;" noted up there with the other reported bugs and such.

Can you perhaps straighten out my eyesight, teach me to read, or maybe paste in the fix please?

Seems to only happen if I used the suites' CMS, logged in as a user with 'can view the chats ' permission and the chat was set to 'can't view' for the newly logged off and therefore unregistered user I became once I logged out.. (whew. glad I ain't you :)

That's rather confusing to type. Hopefully, you can decode what I mean but as mentioned, I sidestepped the issue by moving to vbAdvanced

Just installed this chat on my vb 4.0.4 forum and it seems to work nicely so far.
I found two bugs though that I couldnt find in the list of repported bugs in the short time playing with it.

1) When clicking on the questionmark the popupwindow with the help comes up. But at the top in this window I get 8 of these

2) I have choosen to place the chatbox in "forumdisplay" and I wanted it to only be available in a specific forum so I added the id to the "Ids of the forums in which the chatbox shall be displayed" setting. But if I do this I cant see the chatbox even though the forum id is correct. So I cleared this setting and now I can see the chatbox on all forums. So this setting doesnt seem to work.
Any workaround for this until its fixed?

Hadn't a lot of time to test it perfectly. But the main features work well. Some features are added — russian chat Help is advanced, for example.

The my first profession is russian linguistic, so the Russian language in this localization is literary. There is no slang and, I hope, there are no grammar mistakes and orthographic faults. :)

Also I've see that there is a bug in "mgc_cb_evo_functions.js" script in original installation package. Problems are solved, use the file from "Upload.zip" archive. You can see the bags if you compare the original and archived files.

Follow the following install instructions:
Upload the content of the Files folder in your forum root.
Upload the content of the Images in each of your forum styles directories.

Installation is finished, you just have to set the permissions of your usergroups so that they can see the chatbox, configure the chatbox settings, manage the available commands and if necessary add channels.

You need to upload all files (from FILES dir), then import product.xml, (from PRODUCT dir), then if you need from LANG dir english.xml. I'm having an odd problem by the way: if I edit a post in the archive view, then hit enter to submit, I'll get a vbulletin error message: "You haven't selected any chat to remove". If I go back to the archive view and refresh it, the edit will show though.
Could it be that the edit script is somehow still looking for a ticked tickbox (i.e. the one at the end)?

I considered that but since there are a good number of people having this issue, on both chatboxes, it's more likely that he code being used isn't correctly parsing the URL as a reference for the location, and the clientscript is unable to run. I'm no programmer, so this is a guess. Regardless whether it's a client/server/code issue, considering how many people have the problem, it needs to be addressed.

If chat is activated, no one can validate the forum as xhtml 1.0 transitional.

Problem solved .. I installed vsa chat mod (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=235271). That mod is easy .. just one file and no uploads needed. No errors at all.

Either you misconfigured it or perhaps your style is missing some vars which I don't believe so as you are using vB's default style.

Enter might fire the submit button of the inline deletion at the bottom of the page.

I once looked at AIML that's not that easy honestly.
The bot I included is fairly simple and the one you suggest needs much work to be implemented.

I have the bot assigned to monitor a specific thread: He replies to users asking him questions and such. Loads of AIML files to edit but certainly cool. Not sure it's in the scope of the chat but I'd certainly install it.
I turned another thread into a robot bartender that knows a few hundred drink recipes. Pretty useful stuff.

Like the More... within the wysiwyg editor: Something that would allow the user to choose from the categories would be nice for those folks who have Explorer and as you know, too many smilies cause the browser to flash or lock up. A drop down with the list of Smilies Categories would be a nice addition.

Thanks for your great explain. I didn't know that he has made something like that, and i have done this trick on my own and i didnt, don't and won't steal his pwned modification. I do it for my self and i just share it to help others and on Vba forums many people use it and we have not such these arguments there. i think the reason is that i work with out any Premeditation.

I think this is part of the known bug. I am sorry have been pretty busy lately and really little time to work on it :/

Until I release a new version, I suggest you to avoid users from being able to hide chatbox and change default colors and so on in their ACP. This should at least remove the error :)

I have a problem with this amazing mod.

When i try to delete a message with the command "Supprimer le chat de" doesn't happen nothing :( I have vb3.8.5 and mgc 2.3.2 with some command translate in italian language.

This happen also with the command " Supprimer tous les chats de" :(

Small bug report:

The avatars in the chatbox works great! But for some reason when I private message someone, I suddenly see "avatar" as text. here's an example:

I need chat for my forum and I am testing your product but there were a lot of problems :/

1. When I deactivate the formatting BBCODE and uncheck all BBCODEs (that will display a picture in chat after afterward) the user chats are not formatted to split lines. There appears slider at bottom and you have to slide to read every long sentences. I want to enable URL BBcode but to hide BBcode button.

2. When you "Activate the formatting BBCODE" all options are still vizible and seems to work but... if you don't check em all from admincp they didn't work. I mean that if they are disabled they must not be vizible (or be muted), right?

3. I want to hide "help" and "Archives" :/ (or they can be visible only for moderators)

4. If you pm to someone and have avatars enabled it displays his avatar (instead of yours) and if he pm you back it shows his avatar again.

5. I am using dark style with white font and all your popups are light background. I cant read what popup ask me. How I can change that fast, so I don't have to wait for product update?

6. If you have popup that have link to #something it reloads to the CMS, so you can't really complete the operation. I tried to unstick message but when i hit "Unstick" it reloads the page to CMS and even if I am fast enough to hit "OK" it don't work. Its the same with error message when you have open more than allowed pm tabs.

You not named your images right, or you not put it in right place. Right click on that broken pic, then properties, and see WHAT your browser cannot find. When you see that URL, we (and you) can see what's wrong.

I'm using this on a 3.8.x install and it's working for the most part. There are a few minor issues such as not remembering user preference when it comes to collapsed or open state of smilies, bbcode, etc., but that's not much of a concern.

The one question I do have however is in regards to bot configuration. I know how to use the bot and have it configured to answer specific questions but I don't know how to configure the bot for wildcard questions?

Essentially, the bot will only answer specific questions if they are input exactly as programmed, including punctuation for example:

Question: Is anyone here?
Bot: Yes I'm here, how are you {username} :)

...however, any changes to the original question will not yield results so for example:

Question: Is Anyone Here?
Bot: No response.

Question: Is Anyone Here
Bot: No response.

Question: anyone here?
Bot: No response.

...

Is there a way to configure the bot to reply to wildcard queries that have a portion of text that matches what's been programed in the ACP?

Edit the templates.

You meant the error popups and so on ?
It's yui style, try playing with css from that file :
mgc_cb_evo/clientscript/widget-skin.css

Have you tried to modify the mgc_cb_evo.css to fullfill your specific needs ?

The main channel is a default channel, you can't change it because I designed it like that (bad reponse huh ;)).

To change the name of the channel, edit the phrase : mgc_cb_evo_channel_gen.

Interesting suggestion, it's not straightforward to do so however.

Would that mean the receiver hasn't done anything in the chatbox for 30 mins (during which a PM is sent to him) and then you would like a popup to open ?

This is not that easy as there is the max PM tabs opened limitation...


Don't understand me wrong. I think your product is VERY GOOD and you make it with your heart. But please, fix known bugs before you go for improvements.


In a dream world things would be done like this, however as I do this as a kind of hobby I don't spend all my time on the chatbox.

Per consequence when I work on a new version it's during 1 or 2 weeks a bit every day so If I was first fixing the bugs I would never have time to go on for improvements (due to the time spent on creating the release and releasing it).

So I prefer providing bug fixes along with improvements.

What do you mean by not working properly ?

Do you mean that you see the color names as shown on your screenshot and that the dropdown doesn't show color lines as it does on some windows machine ?

If so, it's normal, Safari and Chrome doesn't support the background-color css style for select option. There is nothing I could do about this unless I recode dropdown list and so on as it's done by vB for their dropdown list (but I don't have the time to do so sorry).

You have to upload the mgc_cb_evo image folder in the misc directory of each of your style.

My question is I'd like to display the chatbox globally under the Navbar at 100% width of the forum. On my VBA page it displays fine under the Navbar. I added this hook {vb:raw mgc_cb_evo_var} to the end of my Navbar template similar to what I'd done with the VSA chatbox.

The problem is on the Forumhome template the Chatbox gets placed next to the Sidebar, I'd rather have it above the Forums & Sidebar if possible.

It also doesn't seem to display on the forumdisplay or the showthread template.

Please consider this feature request (I should have been more clear when I requested chat reports):
- post reported chat in post report forum. Currently only the admin can handle chat reports, which doesnt work well for big boards with one admin.
- link from the report to the location in the archive. A chat report is often useless, if the chats before it cant be seen. (context)
