The ads at the top of the thread pages?

Just templates, surely? (using an ad-serving script)

I have got one working using phpadsnews, it is quite easy to implement i will post here soon with how i did it but am trying to get one more thing fixed with it that is annoying me to death. But in the meantime, download and install phpadsnews from scouceforge if you want to use the same system.

um thinking about this, which bit of sitepoint do you mean? just the text ads at the top (which i assume are just html ads) or the links in the category display?

Maybe he means the text ads in the email notification...

Or how it can be targetted to one or more forums, yet rotate in the general areas.

Maybe he means the emails we can send out to sponsors showing their overall click-thru rates.

Then again the targetting is pretty cool...

I don't know about phpAdsNew. We do use the old phpAds for the banner ads now, everything else is done within vBulletin. I hope to bring the banner ads into vBulletin's code base by the end of this month as well as have the infrastructure to distribute this and several other add-ons, I am working on.

It won't need an external Advertising Script at all.

are you using it in "local" mode and are you using the system to ensure the same banner does not get displayed twice? i have been trying to do this but everytime i put the array into that section which is meant to stop the same banner coming up again i get nothing displayed.

I don't think so... Not sure. That is just category banners on the forumhome page. We are talking about the banners inside forums and on threads that both SitePoint and WebHostingTalk have.

At least I am ;)

Hi Jeremy, take another peek at the thread and the included screenshot there, it appears there are ads placed inside the forums and on the categories, etc. Looks like Firefly already wrote it and it's implemented at SitePoint, he has them listed as an example of where the hack is installed.

k, I'll have another look, but I know SPF uses PhpAdsNew (modified version) for advertising. :)

Here is the kind of thing that hack does: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=256276

I'm looking for the "proudly sponsored by" bit at www.sitepointforums.com and www.webhostingtalk.com

It's just an HTML ad by PhpAdsNew, is my understanding, just trying to figure out how to integrate it, as it's done by forum area.

oops, you're right, i looked again and there is no ad down to that level. Might want to keep an eye on Firefly's thread, someone might find a breakthru and add to it.
