Troubleshooting
Server Requirements:
PHP 5

If you get an error:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

Means that there is something wrong with your callback URL. Your callback URL must be where xd_receiver.htm is; so when you enter [callbackurl]/xd_receiver.htm into your browser you should see a blank page (not a 404 page not found error or anything else).

If you get a continues http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/images/loaders/indicator_white_small.gif this means there is a javascript error. Make sure you've done all the template edits correctly (especially footer & navbar). Clear your cache and reload the page.

If nothing happens when you click the Facebook Connect button make sure your callback url domain is the same as you forum domain (the one set in your forum settings) - more specifically make sure that there is a www (or isn't) in both domains.

Many more features may be implemented in the future so keep checking for updates.

1. Have you set up your facebook application? If so in the facebook application settings there is a setting called Callback URL. Set it to your forum's url. And thats it!

2. The Feed Template IDs will be automatically set once you go to FB Connect Options > News-Feed Templates and click on [ Register Default Templates ]

Hope this helps

Actually it's very easy! You can set a default user group for facebook users in the add-on settings. So what I would suggest you do, is create a user group with restricted access and set it as the default user group for facebook users. After you approve the user, you can move him/her to the group with all the other approved users.

Would this solution work for ya?

I'm guessing you moderate new users.... right?
Did you change the default user group for facebook users to 8 (banned)?

hi Sllik

it's currently on my site (http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums), running fine i guess.

I understand some functionality are pending.
So what are the functions that are available through Facebook Connect besides logging in with a facebook account?

Are these functions already working with the current installation of Facebook Connect?

Facebook users will be able to receive Facebook notifications when:

* There is a reply to their thread or a thread that they're subscribing to
* They receive a new PM

If yes, i've tried sending the facebook test user a PM but there wasn't a notification the facebook account about the new PM/reply?

Thanks!

The user is asked to select a Nickname (username) when he/she logs in for the first time so it looks like any other postbit. Right now there is no way for others to distinguish between facebook users and non-facebook users.

I tested with my facebook account and after I entered what username I wanted to use it created a new account on my forum for me.

By the way, I'm running this on vB 3.8 RC1. Works great so far.

so as I understand it, this hack only works for new registrations?

yup, i wrote an earlier post stating that i'd happy to donate more funds if he could bridge this with existing users.

I haven't tried it, and it seems like it will be a big pain in the ass, but i guess you could merge the current users with the new facebook account.

I'm running 3.8.0 Rc1 with vbseo 2.5.0 and I've had two problems on my website and had to disable the plugin.

1. the footer code didn't parse the redirect correctly (the "forum" was missing and it had
FB.init(...hash...,"//fb_redirect...");
value. Note the double slash. I've changed it manually and some errors disappeared.

2. I'm using vbseo and people (valid users) going anywhere but to forum start page were greeted with connection reset errors. Unfortunately IE6 threw out connection error and didn't open the page at all. I've tried to fix it but couldn't... My server logs didn't have any errors...

Any help will be very approeciated as this functionality is very, very welcome by my users...

FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TROUBLE LOGGING IN.

Some people have problems logging into their board after they logged in with fbconnect and logged out.

The nickname you choose when you login with fbconnect for the first time is NOT associated with your current vbulletin account! So when you try to login to vbulletin through the vbulletin login form enter your vbulletin username (not the nickname you chose when you logged in with fbconnect) and your vbulletin password (not your facebook password).

Basically you never enter the nickname you chose with fbconnect into a vbulletin login form!

cool, im installing a VM to run the site on IE6, works great on FF & IE7.

I've been playing with various things and it's getting really funny. So far I've been using Windows xp sp3 and IE6 to test. This one throws "operation aboerted" error and shows "Opening page: C:\Windows\System32\xpsp3res.dll/dnserror.htm" in the status bar.

I've tried another build of IE - an ancient IE6 running on Win98 Crossover bottle for mac and this one gave another error - 80004004. Google suggests that this means nesting errors. And I've pinpointed the culprit - it's the location of this line:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.ak.connect.facebook.com/js/api_lib/v0.4/FeatureLoader.js.php"></script>

from headerinclude. If I move it below, inside <body> tags, the error disappears and everything seems to work fine. I have to get some rest now (it's 1 am here) and I will return to my tests tomorrow.

Cheers

Great application! Is it possible to use the connect API to pull users favourite movies / any other data or can you only get validation that the user account exists?

~~

The only thing I dislike about the applications is that you're handing over a lot of power to a as of yet unproven site (still struggling to finance their ever increasing costs). If Facebook goes down for a few hours, a few days or forever your members wouldn't be able to login, those perhaps more likely is Facebook simply changing / removing the connect feature at one point or another.

Since this app doesn't get the users email or password (as far as I can see) I can't even see away to solve that in the worst case scenario.

~~

Anyway, brilliant app, just finished playing with it on my test server and I'll be adding it to my main forum later. Great work and I look forward to future updates!

I'd give it a go if:

1. There was a way for an existing user to associate their Facebook credentials with their forum account.

2. There was a way for a Facebook user to login first with their Facebook credentials but also be able to login using a normal vb user/pass should they choose to do so in the future.

can you explain what you did exactly, I use CMPS as well.

merge user ?

What I did was create php files to redirects to the right directory or doamin for example the fblogin.php I creatred a fblogin.php file in the root directory where my CMPS in since its in a different domain and within this I added

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=http://forums.mydomain.com/fblogin.php" />

same for all the needed links in my CMPS.

Hi, what was the issue with CMPS? I want to include a fix in the next release?

Does this go for everyone? In 'Callback URL' setting put -> http://yoursite.com/xd_receiver.htm

Also. I have a Facebook contact grabber on my site to send invitations and if I enable your add-on I get this error after I submit my Facebook login info:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Facebook in /home/global43/public_html/includes/facebook/facebook.php on line 37

If I turn your addon off, it works fine. How can I make them both work?

The facebook connect thing pops up fine in FF as far as I can see but on Opera and IE it doesn't pop up on all pages (for example it doesn't work on the homepage.) Could it be vbSEO causing a problem?

After some sleep last night, I took a look at the upgrade I did and everything looks right. I still can't figure out why when I click on the facebook connect, nothing happens.

anyone have any ideas?

Indeed, try with different browsers (and pages), for example on mine it works perfectly with Firefox but with IE and Opera nothing happens unless you navigate to another page, for example Calendar.

okay, i got it to bring up the facebook login window.

but after i input the necessary information, nothing happens. it just reloads the fblogin.php page. i actually had that problem in the very beginning and it was a php4 issue. since then i did upgrade to php5 as it is now, but still no joy.

What's your forum URL? I wouldn't mind trying to login to see if I have any better luck.

I had to recheck the templates for the 1.1.1 upgrade. Something minor has changed from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 and at first all I did was re-upload the files and import the XML and then the pop up wouldn't work on any page at all. I then checked the template edits and searched for what was already there and just copied them over. Something changed in the edits that now allows the popup on all pages but without the edits causes it not to display on any page.

So far I have this running on a forum in a forums directory with none of the issues that have been reported. I still haven't gone in and try to add the connect links to the vBadvanced pages, but that's only a matter of adding some lines of code another style.

The only thing I am noticing is there doesn't appear to be any difference in my User CP where I believe there's supposed to be something different for FaceBook users in the Change Email and Password setting. Is that right, or is that just a background change in effect? It could be that because I use the GT Private Message enhancements its not showing. That mod generates different templates for the USECP_SHELL, but normally I can make the same edits to those templates with no problems.

Oh, there does appear to be a javascript error on the Arcade page even before you try to login. 'xdChannelUrl' is null or not an object

I've also noted that in FireFox, logging out of one site or the other tries to redirect you to the home page of your forum where you end up at http://www.cogonline.net/fblogin.php. You can't navigate to the homepage at all without being taken here, unless you close FireFox and reopen it.

Other then that, nothing real egregious for a BETA.

Those who are upgrading from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 please don't forget to modify a template:
Edit Template - footer
Find:
FB.init("$vboptions[fbconnect_apikey]", "$fbconnect_xd_receiver");
Replace With:
FB.init("$vboptions[fbconnect_apikey]", "$vboptions[fbconnect_xd_receiver]");

That's what I didn't do at first and I couldn't get the pop-up on any page. After doing that however it works on all pages now! I can't find any errors at all now!

This mod is very interesting.

When you login through Facebook and create a username for yourself, what will it set as the password? I can login through facebook later, but if I want to login through the forums own login form, it won't (obviously) accept the password used to login through facebook.

What happens to the people who register through FB? Are they forever offlimits to their username through the native login form?

Even with the upgrade done I am still getting the error I was when you click the login button

Please if someone could look at the attached image and give me som clues as to what might be causing this problem I would really appreciate it. I have spent hours upon hours trying to sort it, including completly reinstalling the forum.

I think there is something really wrong with your server... this should never happen!

Oh damn, this isn't working on my VBAdvanced pages.

Works perfectly on everything in my VB folder however.

Any ideas?

I'm so on the fence on this lol

The only thing stopping me is having users who register via Facebook being required to use their Facebook login from that point on. Perhaps if they could choose a password at the time of registration, that would give them the choice of the native login if they so choose.

I think they can set a password themselves later if they want. I guess the only issue with adding a password option is it slows registration, perhaps have it as an optional field?

Mine didn't either- until I realized I missed a template edit. Double check all your edits.

Setting them one by one would not be possible. I was asking because I have my Wordpress installation bridged to vBulletin and making the native login possible would be quite essential.

This could be solved by letting the users choose a password when registering through FB.

Is this technically possible? If it is, how much work would it require? :)

(Amazing support btw, and blazing speed developing. Many thanks. Installed and donated. I urge everyone to do the same ;))
