View Full Version : Remote Logins

What is the best way to do remote logins thru vBulletin?

The idea is this: I have several products that will fit my industry. These products will be of use to several forums as well (all running vBulletin). The products would work like this:

Forum 1: A user is logged into Forum1. They click a button/link and my product pops up from my domain. My product verifies their login on THEIR forum, grabs their userid number, and when the 'do stuff', it runs an audit trail with information like (ForumIdentifier = Forum1, UserIdentifier = userid).

The reason it does this is so that we can ensure that the users of the product are forum members of specific forums.

I hope this makes sense :)

Doubt it can be done. Internet protocol does not allow sharing of cookies etc. across domains for security reasons.

In the link, you could supply a userid and session hash, and create a script for Forum1 which verifies this hash in the DB and returns yes/no.

Edit: Actually, it would be better to create your own hash algorithm, as the session hash could possibly be misused.

Interesting idea, Dismounted.

Originally I had thought to use the soap api that was on this forum. Is that a bad way to go with this? Is there any other vBulletin API that would allow this sort of thing?
