So I've had a twitter account for about a year and used it off an on from time to time. Than I found www.ping.fm and seen I could post my "status updates" to facebook, myspace, twitter.. several sites..

Anyways, I just started getting back into twitter this month by finding www.tweetdeck.com
It's a great app.
Here you can see my graph, you could say it picked up in the last 30 days, that's when I found tweetdeck and seen I could group people.
http://tweetstats.com/graphs/vbsetup

Anyways, I've seen vBulletin mentioned a few times on twitter, but was interested to find out how many of you are on twitter as well?

Follow me (www.twitter.com/vbsetup) and I'll follow you (unless your just a feed, than I might not)

Whats your view on facebook ?
I dont use it because i dont want to broadcast details about my life/Freinds etc on the Internet.
And i dont want people to poke me either :)
I find most of the stuff on the net such as facebook/Youtube is taken over by kids and other idiots who think gang culture is the way forward.

I see Facebook as a great tool for keeping up to date with my friends who I wouldn't normally know what's going on in their life. I don't buy the argument, that if you wouldn't know what they're up to or contact them normally, then they're not real friends. In fact I'd say that's the whole point of facebook, it helps friendships :)

I see Facebook as a great tool for keeping up to date with my friends who I wouldn't normally know what's going on in their life.But.. Isn't that exactly what Twitter is for?

Personally, I have an account at both sites.. Facebook was so I could get some free cleaner for my laptop and I haven't used it once since.. Twitter was just to see what all the fuss was about and haven't used it since either.

Social updating isn't my kind of thing, at all.. I can't find time out of developing to go read that my friend is on his way to a movie, or if he/she just bought the latest game and they "luv it!! LOL!!"

Come over to my house and party, we can catch up on all that shit then and there.. you know, in person? People spend HOURS on these kinds of sites. Literally, hours.. that's extremely sad.

Yes, but to a ridiculously self-consumed level. Not many people on my list update their facebook statuses more than once a day, whereas on twitter I see people tweeting (or whatever stupid verb they're using now) several times a day. Why would I want to twitter, when I can just use facebook.

Even real friends are sometimes best left in the background sometimes.

I don't feel I talk to much at all, and Deans remark is a bit ignorant

Twitter is a great place to network, I've been to a few "tweetups" here in my city. I've been able to get answers as well as answer questions on twitter, and I've also been able to find vBulletin work via twitter.

Twitter is going to be the next big thing, just wondering how many of you are going to go along for the ride. :)

I was the same way, well I actually had signed up, but didn't mess with it for months.
I've recently seen how useful it can be, I can track the links that I send out and see that ppl are actually clicking though.
It's a very useful marketing tool if anything else.

Think if you could send a message to everyone that interested in the same type of stuff you are ;) and get instant feedback as well :)

I've used twitter once & only once... when trying to get some of those Black Friday deals last year in the TigerDirect / "Pink Friday" fund drive (which turned into a complete fiasco but, at times, was entertaining watching the situation get worse & worse).

I don't think I could actually use "tweet", "tweetup", "tweeting" or "twitter" in a conversation with fellow adults while keeping a straight face.

Just been to the twitter site and saw this...

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

When i finish work, i go home, turn off my mobile phone and spend some quality time with the kids, the missues and you guys on here. I just can't find the extra time to twit unfortunately

Facebook has been proven to increase social capital - especially with already bonded relationship that would suffer otherwise due to geographical changes. [Eg; I'm off to college, but I can still talk to my close friends in my hometown]

Twitter...it's not for me, in fact micro-blogging seems just a bit too intrusive for my personal taste...but a lot of people enjoy it.

Hi Danny,

I must be the odd one out as i've never really felt the need to join facebook, Bebo or any of the social network sites, All the people i've ever wanted to speak to are on my mobile phone directory, I don't relish the idea that someone would be trying to find me to have a "Chat" whilst i may be busy doing something else.

Its a big brother thing if you ask me, Government Departments use it to find people that owe them money, Not for me i'm afriad

********Edit *********

not that i owe the goverment any money :o;)

I don't ever "clock out" so it's a good thing for me. Speaking of facebook, I've gotten in contact with a lot of old friends on it, that I never thought I'd talk with again. :)

Don't really post to it much. Just use it to follow a few sites though. Some sites like SitePoint give you free books if you follow them. Will probably start posting there though once I get a couple projects off the ground next month. Well to Twitter and Facebook.

I agree with Loco.M about MySpace. MySpace will probably be surpassed by Facebook this year in overall popularity. The largest problem with MySpace is the lack of controls on the community. It has rampant hacking and spam throughout the entire system and makes for a bad experience to a lot of people. MySpace is also perceived as many as a breeding grounds for crime including stalking, pedophilia and hate. It has a negative connotation among many people as being a site where teens hang out and perverts try to coerce them into bed. I know a lot of people that are moving to Facebook because of this. Plus Facebook puts on a more professional face and if you manage your profile correctly, you're more likely to make business contacts and land a job. Whereas if a potential employer can find your MySpace page, you most likely just ended your job prospects with them.

facebook is completely different. there you are friends with people you actually know. and if you dont want your friends to know what you are doing, then you obviously have no need for twitter or facebook.

Twitter actually has a lot of marketing and business value. You don't have to post what you're doing every hour in 140 characters or less. However if you want to share an interesting news story or website with friends or business associates, its very quick and easy to do so. I actually have Firefox setup to do so in one click from the address bar. In return I follow a series of blogs about web development and the environment. I don't have time to go read every post at say Smashingmagazine.com, Sitepoint.com or Mashable.com every single day. So I let them push it to me. It isn't really that much different than signing up for their RSS feed but I do find it easier to weed through stuff that I am not interested in versus an RSS feed.

It also allows me to discover new people, sites and ideas that I probably wouldn't have noticed before. This is its value. If someone has a good site and posts decent updates than I'll follow them. I am not very interested in seeing when someone goes to bed or wakes up or even what they had for dinner but it allows me to get more information off of the Internet over time.

Now, personally, I have my Twitter and Facebook accounts intertwined so any update I post to Twitter goes automatically to Facebook. I find it easier that way.

Now, I am sure that teens and tweens are posting updates saying what they do every minute of the day. In this aspect its just mass SMS messaging. That is the appeal to them. However for professionals, network marketing is and always has been the way to create leads, gain information and make money. Instead of business cards people are now exchanging "tweets" and status updates.

Of course if you have a negative impression of something and aren't even willing to try it out then it will never benefit you.

Twitter is microblogging. That is blogging around the 140 character limit of the original SMS (text messaging) protocol. Its similar to Facebook in that you follow people and they follow you. When you follow someone you see all of their tweets (messages) on your Twitter homepage. Think of it primarily has a party line for text messaging. People use it for different purposes though.

I use it primarily to keep up with a few websites that I enjoy but don't have time to visit every day. I can easily go through their tweets and find interesting articles. Others use it to chat and follow each other through the day as well as learn new things both about the online world and offline.

Twitter is cool and can be very entertaining but also very interesting. Worldnews travels faster on twitter then on websites, radio or tv.

Anyways, it is a very powerful tool when you use it with an iPhone. On the go twittering small messages and including snapshots is just plain fun. Try it first and judge later. Don't forget to get some friends starting with you. It's really cool to know what some of your friends are doing at some moments in time.
