this is so cool.
but after a member spends time writing out their Application and you go to submit, it says you missed eg: stat, it resets everything you have wrote in.
eg: you spend alot of time filling in "Why do you want to help this forum?"
and you do a big write up of your self, 1 mistake on submit scraps everything you have written.
can that be fixed?
also like the old Moderator Application, it creates a thread on new Application, that would be good to have.
but thx again, good work.

EDIT: tested 3 times and still waiting for email, how long does it take for the members Application to be emailed?

I'm not sure what to tell you about this one. It works perfect for me as far as the emails. Have you checked your spam folders as well?

EDIT: Are you adding your email address(es) in the AdminCP vBulletin Options?

Is anyone else having this problem?

ok just uploaded Moderator Application to my twilight forum and it works nicely also installed on forums.mysite.com
its vbulletin 3.8.2

so the reason this is not working on the first forum i tried is because its version 3.8.3 maybe?
i cant think of any other reason.
also 3.8.2 is not much different than 3.8.3 i thought.

yep works on 3.8.3 fine, just tested jodelle forum. mmmmm i wonder why its not working on the first board, the first board i tried is a vbulletin 3.8.3 and its a mates board, i just uploaded it yesterday and added many hacks today. the hacks added are the same as on my other boards where this mod works fine. i have no idea why it wont work on my friends forum.
also sorry for spamming your thread out, but i'd love to know why it dont work on the first board.

The only other thing I can think of is to ensure all the email options are correct in AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Email Options. Other than that, I have no idea

Would a permission Setting not be good, set Usergroups that are allowed to use this Form. So when I put it into the Navbar, only a certain usergroup can use this function ? That would be appreciated.

Also maybe the phrase "State" could be changed into "Country" because for outside-US that might not fit so much otherwise.

Fine. Thank you for this great mod. ;)

Another Idea would be to include the IP of the sender into the Email. And maybe alternatively also leave a choice in the settings of the AdminCP if the Form is send via Email or PM, or both even, setting the ID of a User this Form is supposed to be send to. Since sometimes Emails get lost, as backup this way the Form would be also send as a PM and for sure reaches its destination.

Feature requests:
* Forum permissions to allow/disallow users from submitting the form
* Certain criteria needs to be met for user to submit form. eg. x amount of posts, Also the ability to ensure user is in stated usergroups, eg. is in x, y, z usergroup etc.
* Form gets posted in designated forum section
* Poll gets created in that thread with yes, no, not yet. (definable in the admincp)

that would be pretty sweet, but none the less thanks for sharing, I will hold off installing this until it advances.

How would I go about editing some of the questions? for example I would like for current staff members to be able to apply for other positions. I would also like to be able to edit some of the other questions.

Thanks

Edit: Never mind, editing the template seems to work. Maybe for the next version (if you make one) have some options in the admin panel for editing/changing questions?

No. This is an actual moderator application that your users can submit on your site and once submitted, it will be emailed to the email address(es) specified in the vBulletin Options

It's actually a bit more difficult than that. In order to change the questions, you have to change the template along with a few areas of the php file. Depending on how you want it answered (eg. radio buttons, textbox, etc) thats another task

Ok, I'm not sure why it isn't showing. I can see it in the source code. Try removing

Code:

got this

The following error occurred when attempting to evaluate this template:

The conditional on line 309 appears to be missing its beginning tag (<if>). This may cause unexpected behavior.

This is likely caused by a malformed conditional statement. It is highly recommended that you fix this error before continuing, but you may continue as-is if you wish.

email, location, birthdate, etc. Just pre-populate those (rather, uneditable grey them out) using the profile details already known.
I thought about adding these (location, bithdate) in, but some boards don't require that alot of this information to be required, and a field like email, some users may have a bad email address for their account and may want to use a separate email address.

Cool nuff though

Same here however you could tweak it and have it for staff positions i.e. if you run a board and there are coders that would like to help you and present info to your community then it would serve another purpose but since we just don't have the need for it does not mean others won't and just look @ all the replies.

Redline, downloaded to look over, might us might not but regardless dl'd it so marking as installed.

just the create a poll option would be nice
good work on new release:)

would be nice to have a seperate forum id for admin apps and mod apps.

so admin apps can be posted into an admin only forum and mods super mods posted into a mods forum???

Also how do you get it to have the question and reply in the new thread on the same line like

Enter any additional information: well this is getting there now, just - need input from members.

Do you know any of the options: Yes.
Do you moderate on other forums: Yes.
If yes, what other forum(s) do you moderate: www.bla bla bla www.yup yup yup

rather than

For example, to do this, you need to edit modapp.php.

In there, find:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

And change to:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

Easy, right?

I'm not so sure if I'm going to add the poll in this, but as far as the admin and mod apps being posted into 2 different forums, I'll see what I can do

Right now, changes to 1.3.0 include:
- XHTML 1.0 valid
- Fixed incorrect setting for one of the AdminCP vBulletin Options
- Added error page for users who do not have enough posts to apply
- Fixed version checking error
- Changed the format for the phone number so if "City, State" is selected, it appears as "(123) 456-7890". However, if "Region, Country" is selected, it will still appear as a regular text area (e.g: 1234567890)
- Cleaned up the thread/email a little bit more (Changed the user's name so it's on one line (e.g:"User's Name: John Doe"))
EDIT: Ok, after looking at the code again, as far as the mod and admin applications being posted in 2 different forums, I'm not sure that's possible

Hmm, it will become non-free from 1.40 on ?
Donīt get me wrong, I am sure you put a lot of work into the Mod, and I and I am sure many others appreciate that, but its not like this is a major Modification, and even the most of those are free. You sure you want to do that ?
This is not an offence or complain btw. , its just my oppinion. I love your Mod and I would not like to miss it, so donīt get me wrong. ;) But I am not sure making it non-free will make it get around much.
Iīd rather offer people to donate for your work, I would even do it myself under these circumstances, but thats up to everyone else. But making it completely non-free, I would think about that again.

Take care m8.

First off this is a great mod. I will nominate this.

I edited the application to fit my forums needs. I managed to edit the fields on the application itself but when an application is submitted I still get the old fields on the application.

e.g. Original field: What skills can you bring to this forum?
Edited field: What skills do have using vBulletin forums?

On the submitted application it still shows up as "What skills can you bring to this forum?

How can I change it so the submitted application shows "What skills do have using vBulletin forums?" instead of the original field?

You have to replace several areas inside the php file as well. Not everything is in the template itself

In staffapp.php, lines 311 and 313 are the same:

Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

Line 313 should be:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

I noticed that and fixed it today.

Also, is there any way to make this file force a prefix when it starts a thread? I know it would be a simple file edit, I am just not sure where.

I also added in a little code that allows me to show/hide position information on the application based on which positions are turned on. I did it in the template, but maybe this could be a feature in future versions.

After this code:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

I added:

Code:

...and then some table code with position information and requirements. It will only show when that position is enabled.

You have to edit the template in order to change the ranks you want users to apply for.

Note that you must edit the template in 2 separate areas for it to work correctly

Make sure Create a thread is set to yes and that you have the correct forum ID entered in your field. For example if your forum ID looks like http://www.yoursite.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1 you would enter the number 1 in that field. Same thing with the email, make sure you have the correct email address entered and check your spam folder

That is not a feature in this modification. You need to check the permissions you have set for that forum/usergroup that the application is being posted in.

Hi Red!

I'm using this great mod on my board, I just have one small issue.
I have vBadvanced, people can open Application form from homepage, the problem is that when the form is submitted the thread created on the forum has a bad hyperlink.
I can see the new thread but the link is wrong:
I have this

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

instead of this

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.

If you open application outside (vBadvanced) it works just fine.

---------------

If you open application outside (vBadvanced) it works just fine.
Sorry, but this is an issue with vbadvanced. You may have to add something here to fix this...

AdminCP > vBa CMPS > Default Settings > Global vBadvanced Settings

Is there a way that you can add it to where each thread created comes from a specific userid? I have an account reserved for automated posts and would like to use it for this as well. Thanks!

I'll look at adding that to a later version.

For all users waiting on 1.4.0, I will actually be changing that to 2.0.0. The staff application has been almost completely rewritten with loads of new features. Just working out the kinks

If it'll work for what? What are you trying to do? If you're just trying to edit the questions, you don't need to edit the " . $vbulletin->GPC['why_help'] . ". You just need to edit the How did you hear about NGG

You would have to go through the php file and the template and change each phrase and variable if you want to run 2 versions on your site

actually it's a great idea I've always think of it, however there are some remarks make it inconvenient:

1st: it doesn't deal well with right to left languages (so yes is no, & no is yes)
2nd: yes and no are vbphrase, so to translate them we have to go through the template (which is tedious)
3rd: fields are a little restricted, such as the phone number

***update*****
and before I forget, the powered by vbulletin page (i.e., staffapp.php) is not compatible with version 3.8.4

u should replace this line:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

with this:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

anyways, I liked it

HMBeaty
29 Aug 2009, 03:05
Well, I'm not familiar with the right to left languages so I'm not sure how to change that so it will accommodate your needs. And version 2.0.0 (was originally going to be 1.4.0) which should be released next month is pretty much a complete rewrite of the staff application along with LOADS of new features. One of those being that the email field is required while the phone number field is now optional. Unless you meant "restricted" in a different way. So, feedback on how you would like to see those or improvements that need to made are appreciated.

It allows your users to submit an application for staff positions or whatever other positions you want.

In the vBulletin Options, it allows the application, upon submission, to create a new thread and/or be emailed to the email address(es) that you specify

I like this, but its a shame I cant pick which applications are open..

Maybe, if you made it so the tick box could have an input field or maybe have it so that I can put the placments that are open in a box on admincp and they go towards the applications page as a select button like they are atm

i might use it or edit it to my prefference, but I strongly recommend you edit it so that we can add our own job app placments.

I am still watching this :)

I do have some questions:

Incidentally havent downloaded as yet.

We are about to allow users to run their own forums. A kind of personal forum arena.

I am right in thinking we could use this application to allow members to come forward and propose their new forum idea ?

So... that being the case.

In the application admincp, i notice the application is set to apply for mod/supermod/admin I think.

If we created a new usergroup, called say : Manager

How could we integrate this application, so that we could accomodate our members applications, is it as simple as setting a usergroup switch, so that upon success, they are automatically added to that usergroup?

TimberFloorAu
14 Sep 2009, 22:21
And can this be tweaked ?

In terms of:

1. I would like to start a forum called XYZ
2. Description Textarea

etc etc

That would just be a simple phrase edit and a couple template edits to change the positions that you want users to apply for.

So if I wanted to add Web Team or Graphics Team how about would I go about this and is this something in the future you will be adding to the mod

I like your layout of the application and the email and post it makes ... looks real formal and contains the information any admin would need to follow up on ...

To change the positions on the application, you would find (x2) in the template staff_app

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

and change the value="" and also the $vbphrase[]. Or, if you don't want to edit the phrase, you could just hardcode the positions into it.

And if you want to edit the vBulletin Options to reflect your changes, you COULD enable debug mode, and edit your settings or any changes you wish to make there, which would be much easier. To enable debug mode, enter this in the config.php file:

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.

Create a thread
Would you like to create a new thread when an application is submitted?
This is set to Yes

Forum ID to create new threads in
Enter your Forum ID number here for the forum that you would like to create a new thread in when a new staff application has been submitted
I entered the the ID of an existing forum.

There is nothing to be moderated in ACP > Moderation > Moderate Threads

When an application is submitted, I do receive the email notification.

So why doesn't a new thread get created?

Double check to make sure you have entered the correct number for your forum id (for example: yoursite.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36; 36 being your forum id (the ONLY thing you enter in that field is 36))

You may PM me AdminCP access if you need to

Yes, everything was double-checked before I asked for help. :) But this is on a test board with a number of other add-ons I am trying. I installed your staff app on my live board to see what happens, and it works fine. So all I need to do is find out which of the other add-ons may be interfering, and make sure it's resolved before installing it on the live board.

When I find out, I will post back here in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

Threads are being posted but they show up as "moderated" they require approval...

Is there any way to have them posted without this problem?

Thanks in advance

That is not a feature in this modification. You need to check the permissions you have set for that forum/usergroup that the application is being posted in.
im having the same issue, and its a pain in the butt. when a user submits the application, i have it set to post a thread in a private moderators only forum. the thread is posted, but its put into a moderation queue. i cant give users access to the forum. is there no way to work around this so that the thread needs no moderation?

HMBeaty
30 Oct 2009, 00:15
Farman and maddoghalo1, to change/add positions you want your users to apply for, you would have to edit the following lines in the template staff_app (x2)

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

More specifically, you would change value="whatever here" and change the phrases ($vbphrase[usml_staffapp_mod]), or hardcode your options in there versus using phrases

Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

But not worked...

Did you add an option in your vBulletin options to turn this on/off? If not, remove that if condition and it should work

And "staff_app (x2)" means, you need to edit the template (staff_app) 2 times, because these options appear twice in that template

Hi. I really want to use this for my site however I am trying to use this so people can apply for membership for my community and therefore I would want/need to change some of the questions the thing asks. Example; I don't need the parts that ask for like "What are your forum skills" or "Do you know the backend to vbulletin."

Is there any way to customize what kind of questions to ask?

And I am not really heavy into coding so if it involves like mass coding or changes then I can't do it :(

HMBeaty,

Nice job on the mod. It's obvious you spent a lot of time with everything, put together a nice readme, etc. I'll buy it when it goes to 1.4.0 with the options you mentioned it will have.

But, I really dislike the "backdoor" thing where it sends you an email when someone installs the mod. It's backdoor because I didn't know about it. If I had known about it I wouldn't care, but I dislike things sending emails and such without my knowledge. Sure, I could be expected to read every line of php code, but I guess I usually trust people who have high marks on vb.org.

I just double checked the top summary section of this thread, as well as the bundled readme file, just to make certain you didn't give notice about this -- and I can't see where you did.
