View Full Version : Prevent Doubleposting
I heard this does something bad to the search engine in vBulletin - something about psots not being indexed properly? Is this correct?
nope, that's an incorrect information you have.
The search engine problem on vb.org lately have a totally other reason.
installed and love it. thank you.
one question - would it be possible to exclude certain usergroups from following the auto-merge rule (so certain usergroups can make multiple posts in a row)?
thanks again!
super hack.. and thanks marco for that time tip ;)
would it be possible to exclude certain usergroups from following the auto-merge rule

Great hack, is there any way you could make it effect all threads in JUST one forum? Also be able to block the person from posting a second time at all. So if the person EVER replied to the thread, they could NOT post again. I need it so on certain forums you can only reply to every thread one time. That's not really the point to this hack, but since its similar I think you could easily make that. If you could I would be VERY greatful. If thats worded all wrong its because ive been up like 30 hours messing with this lovely forum, lol. Thanks man.
Xenon, are you planning to upgrade this hack for 3.5?

what is that supposed to tell me? need what? kirby you cant imagine what it's like to get some help in here. i search the forums before asking any questions, it took me long enough to find this thread here. as i believed it was used on this board when it was in 3.5 beta version and not 3.0.x. plus everytime i ask a hacker (4 pms that all remained on replied too) on this board something about one of their hacks they dont even answer.
i'm just trying to make the best of my board.

Anyway to allow a certain usergroup double post? =\
you can always manipulate the if condition when a post is considered as a doublepost, just add a $bbuserinfo[userigroupid] != bla ;)

hmm, but its not like I wanted it. :(
It wanted this text as an edit notice, so that if you doubblepost it says:

as an edit notice.
a look at that code would help:

Danke :D thx gracia, usw..
hehe, i love the languagemix in here ;)

excluding those usergroups in the condition would be the easiest way.
it's not a real bug in the hack, as if i would disable merging with moderated post the hack would not work as designed anymore

One of my moderators just brought this to my attention. Is it possible to have the query which updates a post in the case of a doublepost to also update the post dateline so that users are aware there is new content?
Exactly. The hack is a great idea, but if the aforementioned function does not work, it becomes a big hinderance. I have a specific example on this forum.
I posted a code request.
A coder provided a response.
I replied with "Thanks, I'll give it a try."
I had a problem with the code and responded, but it simply editted the previous post.
As far as I know, no thread update was sent as if there was a new post, and the thread was not bumped. It seems the timeframe here is set really long as well, because responding today did the same thing. The hack is definitely a great idea and much needed but those need to be fixed.
Also, the function needs to be disabled as soon as someone posts after you so as to not have your response post in the previous post to their question (I'm not sure if this is even the case, but just thought it should be mentioned).
Thanks!
Can you guys show me what code to alter in version 3.6.7 ? As I can't find anything even simliar in the functions_newpost.php

I installed the product version 1.0 of this: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96602
From same author in 3.7.3.1 and it is working great. Just extra info (not to mention surprising!) I needed to do VERY MINIMAL tweaks after installing the product linked above (older version of this hack) to have it fully working in 3.7.3 PL1
I might guess it should work for 3.6.x as well, but what needs tweaking might be different. You probably need a good idea of PHP to see where it isn't working quite right though. I didn't make a note of what changed.
