What this does
This will allow you to setup a icon to display by the title of each forum you have. The look of the icon depends on how you want to set it up in the templates. This will work for all levels of sub-forums.

Note:
This hack will work for vBulletin Version 3.5.0 RC-1 and RC-2 ONLY!

Where ever you add the $forum[forumhomeicon]. Thats where your icon will appear. Treat that variable as <img src="" border="0" alt="" />. Because thats whats stored inside $forum[forumhomeicon]. :)

Ah, ok. but but I add it to the forumhome_forumbit_level2_post template no matter where I seem to put it it jacks my display up. Here is my current working template. Would you mind showing me where I need to insert that piece of code to make it look like your image? Sorry I am such a n00b.

You enter the IMG info when your editing your forums in the Admincp. Pretend you want to edit a forum title or a forum description. It should be just underneath that. Also, to get it to look like my screenshot, you would need to mock up some HTML. I was feeling nice tonight so I edited my first post with a little tutorial on how to get the image like the screenshots. Also updated the screenshots as well.

I almost had to ask for help on how to do that too.. :nervous: I didnt know what you meant. But thanks I was stuck forever there. By the way what does the Query do by running it? What did it do. When I tred running the query thru the admincp it told me I didnt have permission...And this is my board. I installed and added 3 plugins/hacks.

The query is so you can store the <img> info inside the database. In order to run querys in the Admincp you need to edit the config.php file. Change the following line:

Change X to your Userid. You can find your userid by clicking on your profile and seeing the number at the end of the URL. If your the owner of the site, this will ussally be 1.

If you use the imagedir stylevar, you wouldn't have to though. Just let it be inherited from the parent.

This Hack can be implemented without File Edits in RC 1 by using Hook forumadmin_edit_form, so you might want to update it :)

I have a suggestion for an upgrade. Could you make it so that the icon we choose can also be a link to another page if we want it too? That would allow us to have sponsor on each forum that when clicked, leads to a custom profile page or something that describes their company.

On my forum, I have 'new' and 'old' versions of each forum category icon instead of two icons next to each other. It's not as elegant to have a category icon AND the standard vB icon for 'this forum contains new posts'.

i noticed that too so i increased the canvas size of the pic in photoshop by 5 or pixels to give it some space

To make a space, you can do what dsotmoon has done. All my images have a 5 pixel space; left, right, top and bottom. Or you can add a <td>&nbsp</td>. But pixel space seems to be the best answer.

if you havent got this working yet, i got it working via strait template edits. its a little messy though. i tried doing it via a plugin using the global_start hook but couldnt get it to work. if you want it...ill send you what i did. if not...maybe ill just release it in the templates forum.

The message received after updating to vb 3.51 the latest update was to revert certain templates otherwise some funtions may not work. If the code has changed for the 2 templates, then we cannot replace as instructed to do so in the first post. I have tried to just insert the one line but haven't been able to get the alignment right.

Any Help ? Or perhaps updated templete replacements to refect the revised templates in the new vb 3,51 update

I reverted the template to match the 3.5.1 default one and then I added all changed by hand.
Simply try and error, nothing big can go wrong.

The CatHack is working fine on my board at www.clanforums.com vB3.5.1
I added the correct code to main and subforums but I think posting this here does not help cause I have several other modifications in there.
I think I will add cat icons today to better show how it works.
Actually only my birthday board has an icon which I used to test things out.

You mean the description on top of a forum if you access one?

Problem is that the hack is designed to work in the forumdisplay section only.

I played around with the templates and the plugin entry points but did not find the right one. Maybe the author can help here with a hint very fast :D

using that code, but ended up deletely it for now, as I just can't seem to get it to align correctly, the forum title, description to appearing towards the bottom right of the icon pic or bellow it, I want the forum title and description to appear just to the right of the icon pic starting at the top right of the pic.

This was the way it was before by using your replacement codes at the that was posted, but with updated templates v3.51 I can't use that.

I have added the plug in and added the phrase code just like LiveWire did but it simply refuses to work for meo n 3.5.1, and the input box in forum editing is at the very bottom and looks like it is simply part of my age lock hack.

First of all very good mod by LiveWire. I have installed it too and its running wild.

Here is a little modification of the template file I made so that you can actually replace the status icon with your chosen forum icon. And if there isn't any forum icon chosen, then it will display the status icon.

I installed this on 3.5 Gold and it works perfectly :) I had to insert the $forum[forumhomeicon] manually though, because copy and pasting the code above was giving me an error. Instead of saying (10 viewing) or whatever, it was saying (Array Viewing).

I do have one question though. Is there any way I can get my icon to show up all the way to the right of the forum name and description, next to the "last post" column? I tried tweaking it a little bit but the tables kept getting distorted and unaligned.

I have looked in several places for the code that controls the border for the images, no luck in seeing any border values that aren't already set to zero.

I am not seeing any option what so ever in my Forum Manager when I click to edit a forum. I have uninstalled and re installed, I am running 3.5.4 test site so its not live but still bothers me that it should work but doesn't.
