Hi Paul :) This is not showing up. Is there any way that we can install it manually through the templates? We just checked and the ACP section is there, and the template 'Display_Visitors' is there, so most likely the code in 'What's going on' is just missing.

Paul M

First of all, have you checked what usergroups are allowed to see it ?

The actual code looks for the html comment "<!-- end logged-in users -->" in your forumhome template - if you have removed that for some reason then just insert it back where you want this to appear.

Thank you Paul :) That seems to have fixed it.

Could you please clearify what is meant by "Set to 'yes' for a rolling 24 hour display, leave as 'no' to reset the count at each members midnight." ? Does that mean that if it's set to yes and member 'X' logs in at 5:00 - that he will stay on the list until 5:00 the next day? VS. the no setting which would wipe the slate clean at midnight for everybody. Is that what it means?

If I get some free time I may add a couple of options - one to suppress the list when a certain number of visitors is exceeded, and one to make it always collapsed by default. It may be a while though before these get added.

Hi there, i've just upgraded from 3 to 4 on vb 3.5.2.

I used to have a template with the number of users in a different colour to the default. Where would I now change this?

I also used to use a collapsed template you kindly gave me, it is still showing collapsed for me which is great but is that what all users will see? and how is this contolled in this latest version.

it's all great btw, and upgrade was painless

I know that someone else did this, but this hack needs an option to show the list on another page. I've just installed it and now have a HUGE box at the bottom of the page showing 585 users online! Not to mention the bloat in the HTML.

Nice mod though.

06 Jan 2006, 13:35
btw, if people want to show the list of users online on another page (there's a link to such a mod in the hack overview above) and want to get it to work in the current version, this is what you need to do.

Download the mod by EvilHawk (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=794815)

Make the changes as described, but omit step 1.

Then edit the plugin for 'Members who have visited (2)' in forumhome_start & replace this bit of code

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

with this

Code:

Can someone help me out here..... I installed this hack and thought it was working great, until I created a user group and placed myself into that group. When I did that, this hack disappeared for that group. When I placed myself back in my original group, the hack came back.

Is there somewhere that I need to be adding the user group IDs so this hack works on all of them? It seems the custom user groups aren't picking up this hack.

TIA!

CraigNot unless you have absolutely huge numbers visiting every day.

This only runs on the forum homepage, no other pages.

As an example, we have 600+ per day and it barely makes the server flicker. Obviously the homepage increases in size to accomodate the user list (500 users adds about 30k to the page) - and it runs one simple sql select query (which takes 0.092 seconds on our main forum).

But I have markup in the secondary groups I want to use in most places, just not in the who's visited box.

Are you allowed to see hidden people ?

Yeah, I am, and I do see the invisible ones.

Is there some kind of post threshold on it, where anyone below X posts doesn't show up? It seems to be the lower-post members who don't show up. Click the link in my sig to check for yourself (about 6 or so members are invisible, so you'll see 6 less, but since that would mean about 20 users on it, and the number it says is 50, thats still something).

EDIT: Figured out what caused it. Its only displaying members that either:
-Are set to invisible mode, or
-Are a member of a secondary usergroup.
People who ONLY have a primary group aren't displayed.

EDIT 2: Upon further testing, its that comment that's doing it. Commenting out those two lines causes it to ignore people without a secondary group, for some reason.

Extract the XML file and import it into vBulletin as a product (using the ACP product manager).

Step 2.

Change the settings in 'vBulletin Options > Forums Home Page Options' as required.

Hi, PAUL M..

What do i need to change by this hack, that you not see the usersnames who viste today..
But only ( Total members that have visited the forum today; ???? )

Thanks

This isnt showing up for me.. i have upload the XML
and the plug in is turned on.

Step 2.

Change the settings in 'vBulletin Options > Forums Home Page Options' as required. You did step 2 right ? If yes then perhaps you have an edited or customised forumhome template missing the line that this looks for to inject the display.

What do i need to change by this hack, that you not see the usersnames who viste today..
But only ( Total members that have visited the forum today; ???? )
See the answer in this post (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=880285&postcount=585).

Is there anyway to hack this to make it go over 24 hours so it never resets back to zero at midnight.... Maybe a way for it to log more days to make forum look busier than it really is? entice more signups?

You can do whatever you want if you edit the code/templates/phrases.

I have a problem. I had your old version right and what happened is it wasnt showing so i unistalled it and reinstalled now its showing 2 at onceDid you follow the upgrade procedures, esp the bits relating to Forumhome ?

Upgrades:

To upgrade from version 4.10 onwards, you need to re-import the product with the overwrite option set to yes.

To upgrade from version 4.02 to version 4.10 onwards, you need to uninstall the product and remove the template code in FORUMHOME - then upload the new product.

To upgrade from version 3.xx to version 4.xx you need to delete the existing plugin and remove the template code in FORUMHOME - then upload the new product.

FYI, I am testing an update to this that will add two more [often asked about] options.

* Suppress the list of names - instead a simple names listing disabled message will be shown.

* Always collapse the names list on first view - i.e. when ever you view the homepage the list of names will always be collapsed - a member will have to click on the expand icon to view the contents.

It will probably be ready sometime over the weekend. :)

Also, this only shows up for me if I have users currently logged in enabled. Would be nice to be able to turn that off and still show your hack.I'm afraid this is never likely to happen as the display is tied in with the online display.

#

The options below have now been added and v4.15 released.

* Suppress the list of names - instead a simple names listing disabled message will be shown.

* Always collapse the names list on first view - i.e. whenever you view the homepage the list of names will always be collapsed - a member will have to click on the expand icon to view the contents.
There is no need to upgrade unless you want to use these options.

FYI - Their default settings reflect how previous versions worked. :)

I had this old mod running fine with vb 3.0.7. Then today I updated my vb to 3.5.3 and this mod shows " Total users that have visited today:" and nothing afterward; no total number and no names as it used to be.

If I install this module, can I just import it with overwrite option? Or do I have to delete the old installation? If so, how to delete the old version? Also, how to check the version of this mod?

Thank you in advance.

OK, I know I'm stupid. You need to uncomment something to switch the hack to 24 hours. What do I uncomment and where do I find this code to uncomment?

I wish the text file that was included with the download had some instructions. I've spent 20 mins looking through these 44 pages of content and still can't find the answer.

I've fixed a bug in the new install code so that it actually creates the index. If you have installed this for the first time in the last couple of days (i.e. v4.15) then I suggest you upgrade to v4.17 to create the index (note, while not strictly necessary, the index will improve performance of this on larger forums).

Turn off the ability for members to see invisible users, that's standard vb functionality.

I am not that dumb. Invisible members are indeed invisible in the Who is Currenty Online list but the who visited in the past X hours ignores that.

Paul M
19 Feb 2006, 21:44
As yet you still haven't clicked install.

Invisible members are indeed invisible in the Who is Currenty Online list but the who visited in the past X hours ignores that.As the notes say;

3. Invisible users are only displayed to those allowed to see them (with a "*")This is just the same as all other areas of vbulletin (including the WOL and Active Users List).

BTW, this is not the 'who visited in the past X hours' hack, there is another one by that name.

Just a suggestion but you may want to add rel=\"nofollow\" to the urls

Paul M
19 Feb 2006, 21:51
Just a suggestion but you may want to add rel=\"nofollow\" to the urlsWhich urls ? and why, what does that do exactly ?

BamaStangGuy
19 Feb 2006, 21:55
Which urls ? and why, what does that do exactly ?

It makes the search engines not follow the links and not count it as a linkout.. basically makes the link non existent on the page in the eyes of a search engines so that your "pagerank" goes to your other links. Plus people with 200-300 members coming to their site a day dont want 200-300 active links to their member pages which will cause Spiders to spend their time visiting these links instead of spidering other more important parts of the forum.

Plus vBulletin by default adds relnofollow to the whos online section

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

That is where I added the rel=nofollow

Paul M

I just tried to install this hack. I installed a few different hacks and they worked perfect including updating the ACP. I have a 3.5.4 verson.

It would display for the the registered users and admins but it wont for any other user groups due to the group restrictions.

The listing in the ACP is not there in the ( Forum Listings Display Options ) .

It did insert the phrases and the variables into the DB under the table ( setting ) and one in (settinggroup).

I just hacked the template to make it work for everyone all the time.

Just a heads up, could be on my end?

Yes.. about 5 times. It will not write into the acp or follow the group variable, I have to change your code in the plugin to allow everyone rights to see it, changing all the false to true.

Paul M

I've got one member who, believe it or not, has been found physically stalking the owner of the forum (i'm just his server manager and friend) and he's registered hundreds, if not thousands of usernames. His IPs are banned but he's got a way somehow to keep changing nets at SBC. I've banned as far away as Class "B" and he can still chang them.

Now that I installed this plugin he sees it as a trophy. The guy is mentally ill (not sarcastic) and has a restraining order, but I can't stop him from hitting the forums. I also own the company that hosts this, and I can't just ban the provider from my routers because it's too big.

I don't know how else to accomplish this. Joe wants to leave the banned members visible on who's online but I don't see any way to do both.

Any thoughts?

The easiest way would be to edit the sql in the "Members who have visited (2)" plugin.

Change

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

to

Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------

Assuming that group 8 is your banned group.

First off, great hack Paul. I've always loved this, ever since it was released for 3.0.x. This is however, the first time I've ever had a problem with it. It was working fine a few days ago, when I installed it, but now, for whatever reason, it's not showing up on my forumhome. I've tried reinstalling the plugin and have checked my settings for it; everything should be working -- but it's not. I did recently install the Plugin Acc., Template Cache, and Template Comp. hacks... could they have had some kind of adverse effect on it?

I have no idea, since I don't use any of them, but it sounds very much like thay have broken something. Turn them off and see what happens.

I disabled all of them through the Product Manager, but still nothing. Should I try manually removing all the edits? There were a few code modifications needed in admincp/global.php, global.php, and admincp/template.php.

Edit: I'm not sure what I did, I just logged out and then back in... and it was there again. I dunno, perhaps my board is possessed. Thanks for your help though Paul.

hey paul, nice hack.

Is there a way it could be modified to do the same thing but for a subforum? So it'll show who's visited the one subforum in 24 hours (as well as keep the one on forumhome).

No, vb does not keep any record of such things.

well there's the currently viewing subforum option in vboptions (I have it disabled because I don't want it running in every forum, just in one), so wouldn't there be a way to track it from those users?

Just curious but if I remove the guest usergroup from being able to see it is the code still being ran for it or does it not run the code at all? What I am wondering is if I make it so that guests do not see it is it still going to reduce the load on the server?

It only runs the code for allowed groups - however, the difference in load would be small.

I installed this , but it is only showing up to Administrators and Moderators. I downloaded it again and re-installed it with no luck. Any idea as to what I can do to fix it? Thanks!

Should there be an additional section in the Forums Home Page Options when this is installed? I have everything set to display who's online, which it does. It just isn't showing this addition.

Is there anyway to have this plugin track guests that come to a site? A simple number of guest visits would be fine?

Let me know.

I see hacks tracking spiders, how does that differ from guests? Or are both beyond the scope of this mod? By the way, great mod!
