I've found that the sender email address isn't changed if vB to configured to use the Mailqueue System. Not sure if this is a problem with this mod or the server setup.

Are you using SMTP or PHP options for mailing? Make sure you test with thread notification, not from the admincp.

vBulletin's cron is a simulated cron. So your vB is running scheduled tasks, this is just like other vB scheduled tasks.

Try using notls in the string. Search this this thread for "notls" for examples.

There could be a certificate failure with the internal IMAP Access on the server.

In vB 3.6 there has been a chang in the "phrase" & "phrasetype" tables. The previous primary key "phrasetypeid" is remove. Only "fieldname" is now serving to identify the phrasetype (or group).

Attached is a modified installer that will work on 3.6 (only tested install).

Will post later if vBouncer itself works on vB3.6 Beta1

PS Maybe this can easily turned into a product, so there will not be this kind of problems with future releases.

So I got vBouncer installed. It's connecting to my mailbox and when it finds emails in there it will delete them. I tried changing a test account on my boards to contain a bad email address. I triggered emails to that account using buddy adding, pm's, emailing, etc. Since the email did not exsist they ended up inside of the subscriber_notify@mydomain.com address.

Without opening the email, I ran the vBouncer Collect cron, the email vanished and this appeared in my cron log:

Processed 1 emails No bounced emails found.

But whenever I look at the vBouncer Stats section it always appears as:

All blank. Any ideas?

Antiblank, if no bounced emails are found, the stats will be blank. That's normal. If you're asking why there are no bounced emails, you need to check the diagnostics and error messages, and provide some details.

Well as I stated I intentionally created a bad email address for a test user. Then triggered some emails to be sent to it. The email isn't found so a the message ends back up in my return-path mailbox. Vbouncer connects, attempts the collection, processes the one email it found. But says no bounced emails. Then deletes the email from the box.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this constitue as an email that vBouncer should be triggered off of.

As for my Cron Logs for example:

I am using IMAP and the connection, reading and deleting of the emails is functioning. There is absoulty no reason any email should be entering this box outside of the return-path function added to the emails since I installed vBouncer.

Just to inform you that this hack is producing invalid Mail headers.

$headers = preg_replace('/Return-Path.*/', 'Return-Path: ' . $vbulletin->options['vbouncer_spool_account'], $headers, 1);

That will match up to the \r and replace it, the end result is that the header has \n instead of \r\n.

If you could fix this it would be awesome, if you can't or aren't around any more i'll speak to Marco about manually updating your hack for you.

This affects Qmail installs and potentially the SMTP mail sender.

Quick Fix, i think but haven't tested is adding $

The F parameter can prevent rare cases when E-mails aren't being send.

It collects the bounces, does the stats, but NEVER logs anything for the cleanup action nor does it actually change anything for the users who should be cleaned up!

For me it's important that if a user's e-mail address has bounced for a certain amount of times (so basically when the conclusion may be drawn that the e-mail address no longer exists), the user will be moved to another usergroup, or deleted for all I care. I have too many members to keep it all up-to-date manually, and besides I wouldn't know how to figure out to keep track of how many times an e-mail address has bounced. There is just no way to do this manually, and there are too many users that register with a hotmail account for example that no longer exists after a couple of months.

Does vBouncer still do in 3.6.2 what I want it to do? I didn't totally understand what you said in your post. If fake and not working e-mail addresses would still reach my inbox, then what does this script do??

Need some advice if you can, I uninstalled vbouncer for various reasons, I used the uninstall script to do so but my members that had previously bounced emails are still not recieving subscription emails or normal vbulletin sent emails, can anyone advise why or how to make it so they can recieve emails. BTW - I logged into theor account and checked all of their settings and they are ok / correct.

lol this is also described in a earlier post :) clean your DB for Vbouncer tables, and run the installer again.

The problem is that you all ready have run some of the installation.

I use vBouncer and I'm not satisfied. Its very limited in that it will only inform users who bounce emails from thread subscriptions. That means whenever I send out a mass email, all of those bounces are not caught by vbouncer.

I have vBulletin running on one server, and my mail server running on another. When I run the diagnostics test, I get PASSED for everything except 'Your IMAP/POP settings can connect.'

As of right now, under IMAP/POP Connection I have '{xxxx.com:110/pop3}INBOX', followed by my username and my password. I have attempted to use my IP Address, mail.xxxx.com and postal.xxxx.com. All of these do not pass the test.

So I have this completely working in 3.6.4. I'm not sure what other members are having issue with. It correctly identifies bounced email and will automatically move users into the proper usergroup.

I uninstalled the 3.5 version, using the unistall option. Then I reinstalled using GNDI's version a few pages back.

I did make two changes in vbouncer-clean.php.

Replace the send_pm function with the folllowing (properly sends users pms):

That is all I've done. I'm also attaching a copy of my settings so you can see what your settings should look like.

To make sure you're setting this up right - first you create the bouncer email address.
Make sure it works.
Setup a usergroup for bounced users.
Uninstall vBouncer.
Install GNDI's vBouncer. Configure vBouncer.
Check the email account (make sure to leave the messages on the server, so connect using imap or a webmail system) and see if you have some bounced emails.

If not, wait.
If you do, run the Scheduled Task for vBouncer Collect.
Look at the cron log, is there an entry for vBouncer Collect? What does it say?
Look at your vBouncer Stats, are there entries there?
Check the email account again. Have the emails been deleted?

Now run the Scheduled Task for vBouncer Clean. Did it give errors or say done?
Check the cron log, is there an entry for vBouncer Clean?

There you go. I may not have time to answer many questions, but I'll try. Good luck!

A bit of any unrelated question: when I installed this I was using php mail. I just changed to SMTP mail using -f param Now, the From address is still my default vbulletin admin email, while the "Return-Path" is the vbouncer email. I'm assuming this is correct behavior. But it would be great to not have the default vbulletin admin email as the "from" address though - I always get people replying to post notifications :(

Notice my vB version and the last run date of the cron job. And the intercepted bounces of course, heh. Annoyingly enough hotmail cries wolf frequently.

If vBouncer isn't working, you should probably try reinstalling it. Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, who knows you may have missed something important at the first attempt :)
Don't forget to tick 'overwrite' when importing the product again, otherwise nothing changes.

I know this thread hasnt been looked at for 5 years now but this would truly be a huge modification for big boards..........in fact any board after the recent hacking of the reCaptca and loads of spam accounts being made all over the place , this could be used to clean up the accounts after the mess has been made.

I see this mod failed after 3.7 and 3.8 so if anyone has this working on VB4 then please feel free to share :)

The install part probably no longer works, but I installed mine on the target version and the bouncer code has always worked after each upgrade of vB.

Mind that many Email providers no longer include the status code in the bounce message. And there also are services like bluebottle that block everything.
