hi,
just a fast question:
how unleagal is it to read members pmīs

Actually there is nothing unlegal about it...
It is YOUR board.. It is YOUR server.. Other users come and register at YOUR server.. I think you can do what you want.. You could have a server called: insult-me.com and insult your users on it..
It is different if you ask users to pay for registration.. and you promise them that they will have absolute privacy in your privacy policy.. If you read the PMs, stating in your terms of service that you dont.. and ask money for it.. I think they can sue you for not respecting your terms of service.. (Like giving a faulty description of the product you sell)
What I do.. I included a paragraph in my Terms of service: "In our fight against child pornography, our administrators have the possibility to check Private Messages for abusive content..."
I think that the important is, that in your TOS you let users know that you have the ability to do it..
But again.. i dont live in the US, and my server is not in the US.. so maybe law is different there.. I think US government is allowed to read your mails.. what governments in europe are not yet allowed to.. (but they are preparing laws for that)..
F.
Why do these threads ALWAYS turn into a debate about the legality/morality of reading PMs?
It's an available feature for those who need it, those who don't need it don't have to use it. The thread itself should be for support with the actual modification.

Isn't that something? Heh.:rolleyes:
I don't use this specific mod, but I DO have the 'Admin Log-in as User' mod installed, which gives me access to more things, including PM's. But reading PM's isn't why I was interested in it. And I've never used it for that, but I would in a heartbeat if I thought there was something fishy going on...ALL in the interest of my members safety.:)

Thank you
What's the address I write in the browser so I can put the userid of the username? I had save it to my favorites but now i don't have it anymore...

Thanks in advance.

I believe this only works for SuperAdmin, and you should only have one SuperAdmin acc't. Other Admins wouldn't be able to use this.
I'm running vBulletin 3.6.8 Patch Level 2.
Uploaded but get a blank white screen after clicking on "Read PMs" link. Did I do something wrong?
I hope this work with 3.7 becuase it is great hack :)
How do I uninstall this? Nothing wrong with it, just need to get back to a clean install for testing.
Thanks,
Ray

This is working on 3.7.0 (Gold) and also 3.7.1 perfectly. Keep in mind the XML file is not imported but simply uploaded to your server. See install instructions.
If you are having problems with this hack then try disabling your other addons as there is prolly a conflict. I have quite a few and all worked perfect for me.:)

Been running this on the latest version of vBulletin for a year now...works great.
Can someone please update this mod though, make it secure, and make it more controllable? I want my mods and admins to be able to read the PMs as well...for some reason, this plugin only allows superadmin to read pm.

Sorry, you are not allowed to edit administrator permissions.
If you think you should have permission to access this page, you will need to edit the $config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] variable in the includes/config.php file.
To allow the administrators to access this page, edit the variable to include the user IDs of those administrators should have access, separating each user ID with a comma, like this:
$config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] = '1,25,57';
To allow only a single administrator to access this page, simply add that user's ID with no commas, like this:
$config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] = '1';
That should solve your issue, good luck!

// ########################## SUPERADMIN CHECK ############################
if (!in_array($vbulletin->userinfo['userid'], preg_split('#\s*,\s*#s', $vbulletin->config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'], -1, PREG_SPLIT_NO_EMPTY)) ) {
rpm_print_stop_back("You don't have permission to access this page.");
}__________________
all admins can read pm

@almqdad

Thanks for this mate. Works for me in 3.5.3.
Just one thing as posted above: Other Admins should not be able to see the menu. I tested on my forums and it does show the menu, though they have no access. But It would be better that other admins dont get to see the menu.very nice post G :D

Ive tried for one hour to follow your instruction an apply this to the Admin Control Panel (vBulletin 3.8.3) and I can get it to work.
It keeps saying invalid file. I have imported like you said the following:
Installation
- Upload "read_pms.php" to your admincp folder
- Upload "cpnav_rpm.xml" to your includes/xml folder
So now what do I do? Where do I find the menu for the PM's? What am I doing wrong here? Thank you for any help. Im new to this.

Hi,
open admincp/read_pms.php
go to line 183 or search for:
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
replace:
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Ideas taken/stolen from MarcoH64 ;-)
Kind Regards,
Stoebi
Looks like the product now has similar code added by the author.
Line 210-212:
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Even with that code in there, I still see the gobbledygook before and after the username on the "To:" line. e.g. (red highlight):
To a:1:{s:2:"cc";a:1:{i:1701;s:5:"Bravo";}}
I am using 4.1.3 (and it still works perfectly except for that stuff on the To: line). Worked the same from 3.6.3 all the way to 4.1.3.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

Works for me with 4.1.5. I've used it since 3.5, so I don't know if there are installation issues now.
