I'd recommend you guys go to vbhackers.com, they have a update of this that is much better as it is much less strain on the server.
The one at vbhackers.com (http://www.vbhackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4536) has worked fine for me, it uses a flatfile system. The only thing is it doesn't timestamp but there's no server load, if you select a font style and color it stays that way the next time you come back, you don't have to re-select it again.

The most common cause of this is people forgetting to upload the shout.php file, or uploading it to the wrong spot.

Ok I have done a bunch of searches in this section. Heres my problem vbshout works perfect I click to view the archive it comes up but if I click page 2 I get a blank white screen. even the > and I get a blank white page. Any ideas?

In the ACP Settings.
vBulletin Options > vBShout > Disable BBCode and Smilies.

i saw a hack where u can put it on any page, try searching for shoutbox and it should throw up a result

I made a autoprune function for vBshout.
Just download the attached file and put in the /includes/cron directory.
Then make a new scheduled task (see attached jpg).
I run it every night at 3 o clock but offcourse your free to run it more often than that.

What is does: It will delete all shouts that are older than 24 hours.
This way you will allways have an archive that's holds no shouts that are older than two days.
You can alter the deletion time in the php by altering the "(TIMENOW - (60 * 60 * 24)" statement.

We've had a lot of reports of internet explorer freezing when users are using the shoutbox (affects all open i.e windows) which can only be cleared by closing it however mozilla firefox seems completely unaffected...

Ps: When it works with I.E the shoutbox also just stops refreshing which doesn't happen in firefox as well.

So I'm looking for a way to limit the amount of text that is posted at a time....had some idiot posting essay's in the chat.

Im having the same problem. It seems as though it is only happening to me. I have looked at all the admin permissions. The box to input text disappears when its me and a spider, but comes back as soon as a registered user logs on.

You could do that, and it's a better solution as it uses the flat file. It does take out the time stamp, but that can be added with a simple template edit.

Alternatively, if you want to use this one, on page 109 there is a different PHP file that could be used that Brian provided for everyone.

Thats actually a brand new shoutbox version, If people want to keep there shouts or don't want to lose anything, You should try the code change a couple pages back.

I tried that Shazz. Didn't help. I have many bugs in my shoutbox. for instance; i cannot ban users or user groups from the shoutbox. The hack simply ignores my commands. I probably messed something up when making other upgrades. I deleted and reinstalled a fresh xml file but it didn't help.

I'm going to check out the new version. Thanks "Replicators."
Update: Tried new version. No difference.

And, an fyi... I tried to make my guests a "banned" group so they could see the shoutbox but not read what's in it. Doesn't work. I logged out and viewed as a guest. They can still see the box and the messages, they just can't add a message to it.

I heard many bad rummers about it being hard on the 3.6.3 that many people switched back to the old version on it

I tried to install 2.1 over 2.0 and I keep getting this error when I try to upload the xml product.

Does it look familiar to anyone else? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I'd like to just revert back to 2.0 until a later date since I have all of the hacks to integrate it throughout my site.

I tried to install 2.1 over 2.0 and I keep getting this error when I try to upload the xml product.

Does it look familiar to anyone else? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I'd like to just revert back to 2.0 until a later date since I have all of the hacks to integrate it throughout my site.

i think that you have to uninstall first v2.0 and then install v2.1
v2.1 has a new system and i believe this is the reason you got this. :)

I would manually insert where you want the shoutbox, and disable "Below Navbar" in vBoptions if your wanting to do that.

Insert the pictures in your navbar template at the very top

It's whining about the 'shout' table already existing.

Did you have this installed before? If you currently have it installed, try uninstalling and trying it again. If you don't have it installed, go into phpmyadmin and delete the 'shout' table, and try installing again.

Hopefully that works, cuz I have no other ideas.

I've just installed the flat file because of problems with the server load, but I was also wondering if it's possible for users to turn the shoutbox on/off in their profile? So that users who don't use the shoutbox won't cause increased server load.
I'd rather not have to split the Registered users user group in half because of the shoutbox.

No there is no way, the way it stands now, for a user to turn it off.

Did you figure this out yet? If not, what you can do is take one of your usergroups where users have to have over 25 posts, or create a new one, and disable shoutbox for usergroups of people with less than 25 posts. Like guests, brand new members, etc. If this isnt clear enough, post up and I'll be more detailed

Get the database error from the email that you have it sent to. If it has no reference to 'shout' then make a new thread, or file a ticket with vBulletin, or like Shazz said it could be the host restarted MySQL on the server if it references that it is unable to connect to the database..

i've successfully installed shoutbox in my vbulletin community site. Have a few questions, here it goes:
1/ how can i edit the size of the VB SB?
2/ Can I set the number of posts? Is there an auto-prune feature?
3/ Can I limit access to the SB?

I am not sure if this has been posted but 166 pages is alot to go through so early in the morning so my apologies if it has.

I have had the shoutbox installed now for some months and I have recently started having a problem with it which is the part where you enter your message doesn't always show even though the settings in the admincp are set saying a usergroup can post etc.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the shoutbox and still no luck, any help is appreciated.

I am using vbulletin 3.6.4.

That is what my problem was. I loaded it into

http/vb/images/styles/tielchrist/images/vbshout.php

I backed it out to http/vb/vbshout.php

and it is working fine now.

Have the editor position set to none
Then insert the code manually under the navbar or where ever.

In the shoutbox options set the option for the position to none and then add $Shoutbox to each forumhome template you want it to show up in.

Whenever I try to use " and & in the shout it comes out as &amp or &quot. Anyone know why?
