View Full Version : [you] Replacement Mod
Here it is! The [you] hack ported over to vB 3.7 beta 4. ;)
I have ported this over to vBulletin 3.7 beta 4, but it should work on all 3.7 versions. It now works board-wide (posts and thread titles), in the archive, and also in the quick post in the profile. If there are any areas you find that this doesn't work in, let me know and I will add the code for that area.
Thanks goes out to KirbyDE for making the first version for 3.5 possible. Without him, I'd STILL be trying to figure out the best way to do this for vB 3.5. Thanks, buddy! ;)
Description:
This will replace the [you] variable (board-wide) with the viewing user's username.
Installation:
1 product xml
(No file edits)
Upload the product xml and you're all set!
Enjoy!

Will it work on the shoutbox?
No, Zero would have to incorporate that like he did the /me code. I will talk to him about it. ;)

That's a little vague. What do you mean by "not working"?

for some reason I can't get the /me command to work in the shoutbox, nor can i get the [you] to work anywhere. Mind you, just messed up my language and waiting for vb to help me!

Then you are having problems with something else somewhere. This works 100% for me and has been tested.
Did you upload the xml as a plug-in? And are you using [you] or you?

It doesn't show when submitted with click reply, press refresh and it's working. Sorry about that.

Then you have some problem somewhere else. With the hook where it's at, there's no reason it shouldn't work for you.

So, it's working then? Great! ;)

If you want [you] to be parsed in the archive and not show the variable itself, you need to edit that file.

Is there a way to only enable this for a specific forum instead of the whole site? I want to use it but I don't want it to be available in every forum.
Thanks.
use a confitional in the plugin....
OR..
Set up a Option where you can insert forum ID's and have the conditional check the array of those IDs for permission.

Strangeness occurs with this. I followed the instructions, and tested it. I used [you] in the thread title and it seemed to work at first, then I noticed everyone was posting as my Admin account and had my permissions. I logged out and it showed me as logged in still but as Unregistered, and I couldn't log back in. So I quickly removed it.
????
Any idea on this?

This hack would have nothing to do with permissions for your account. It will only show your name when you view it. As it will show another user their name when they view it. As far as you not being able to log in, this hack could not possible have anything to do with that, sorry. ;)

is there a way I can limit this hack to show up in posts only and not in thread titles on the thread view page or in users names?
can this be changed to show a userid#?
when you use [you] within a link or a selflink it escapes the brackets and breaks...can this behaviour be altered?
Thanks,
John

I just changed the code to -you- for my purposes to avoid the escaping and it works now....not sure if you want to amend this or make a note somewhere....
I noticed when you edit it makes the changes for you in the edit box, and if you don't remember to put it back to [you] (or -you- in my case) it hard codes the editors username in the post...can you think of a way around this?
Thanks,
John

I was wondering if there is are any by-products to this code.
For example:
Code:

how would I change [you] to Luggruff, and $vbulletin->userinfo['username'] to <span style="text-decoration: none; font-weight: bolder; color: #D10404;">Luggruff</span> ?
(just want the word Luggruff to turn up RED everywhere without any code showing, since if I would do this in the replacement variable thingie it would look like <span style="text-decoration: none; font-weight: bolder; color: #D10404;">Luggruff</span> in every title and other places that don't suppport HTML or CSS)

As of vBulletin 3.5.4, this can be done as a full plugin.
Any chance for an update Bob? :)

I thought it could be done as a full plug-in well before 3.5.4. I am still trying to find a way to have it work in emails too.

Did you know the replacement code works for usernames also? I didn't until a week ago when someone decided to register with the code as there username. So I had to add the code to the list of words not permitted in usernames when they register.
Is there away to get this to work inside the signature please?

Hi Boofo, i have a problem...The code doesn't work on my board. I only see [you] each time i use this tag in a title or in a message.
Do you have an idea why?
I uploaded you-hack.xml file into /includes/xml/
Does this hack work with vB 3.5.4?
Cause i don't know why but the hack doesn't work on my board.
