My journals are not working in 3.6.2 which is very disappointing. Had I know this would happen I would not have upgraded my message board.
Is it possible to go back to my previous version where the journals did work.
Thanks

Someone said upthread to try to "rebuild bitfields" in debug mode. Or you can add it to the mod CP.
I made a plugin (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=125878) to add most of the the journal CP to the Moderator Menu, since I don't want to be hassled with adding moods! :P
But be warned, my plugin probably won't work for 3.6 without some changes. It uses phrases and I'm told phrases went "bye bye" on 3.6 :(

Just wondering if i will ever get an answer to my question regarding vbjournals and vbulletin 3.6. I have asked this question several times in the last month or so and have no received an answer.
Ever since the install of the vbulletin 3.6 upgrade my vbjournals do not work properly. The editing feature as disappeared.
If it is impossible to correct this problem with vbjournals could someone recommend a different journal/blog feature that could be integrated with my vbulletin message board. Please advise.

vBlogetin is ok, but a bit boring and still in beta testing. Why not go for Zoints? It's pretty cool and offers your users more than just a blog. It's also FREE! I wouldn't trust a beta product as you would be going from 1 trouble to the next.
Forget vbJournal... it's no longer supported. That's your answer.
Adrian Schneider
28 Nov 2006, 20:45
How's it boring? Anyway we're still in beta but we have some big plans - we actually expect to have fully static links for the blogs by around Christmas this year. Comparing strictly blog functionality, there is no comparison between vBlogetin and Zoints, but of course Zoints isn't just a blog so that's not a fair comparison.
I'm glad you like it so far, theChronic. :)

I was comparing blog vs blog. Zoints offers a blog system and obviously vBlogetin offers a blog system. The beauty with Zoints is that it's more sticky for creating online communities. vBlogetin only offers Blogs and from what I could see, Zoints offers blogs and more. It allows members to be more connected to each other and show off their own profile pages. There is the control with Zoints blog too - ie. members can choose who can view their blogs which is a cool feature.
The whole idea with building online forums is to create a sticky experience for users and Zoints lends to this nicely.
Cheers.

I had this working fine on a different forum (3.5.4) and it worked pretty good.
When I created a new site, I was hoping to have this as a perk/premium for VIP members, etc.
After reading everything over, I have installed it fine on a 3.6.4 board, and all works well.
However today one of my members told me there was an issue with the buddy/ignore screen, and that the Journal buddies was "trapped" inside the Ignore users box. I guess when I modified the MODIFYLIST template, I stuck the code in the wrong place and it was causing issues with my ignore user functions.
I now see that much of the code it's looking for does not exist in my style (unsure of default 3.6), so i must have spaced out and installed it close to what I think it was.
The instructions say:
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Anyways, I guess I had to fix it.
I looked it over and decided that I didn't like the one that was there anyways.
So i created my own:
In MODIFYLIST find:
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Replace with:
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Please save your modifylist template first, just in case, because I am not a coder by any means, i simply hack away, so please be gentle, it might not work for you (it should though)
The results are in the attached image
if anyone thinks they can improve on it (and they probably can), feel free. All i did was copy the buddies section, and edited it out as needed
However this is where I need some very small help.
When you add a username to the buddy or ignore list, the name is defaulted as checked, therefore next time you add names, they will remain on the list.
In my changes above, when I add a user, it is defaulted unchecked. if you press the check / uncheck all button it works fine. Can anyone help me fix this small issue?
Also, on the /journal.php?do=showjbuddies page, all the user names are stuck together 9no spaces between them)
i know both are related to $jbuddy_listbits but when i search the journal.php, I can't really figure it out much.
Can anyone interested in fixing this buddy page help me out on these two minor issues?
thanks

I checked out the vBlogetin, its a nice system but it can't compare to the IPB nore Zoints System. I havegrown tired of vBulletin putting an update out every week. I still usevB but only on the site I admin at. We are still using the vBjournal and we are going to the Zoints system as well. Why do you ask? because its stupid paying money for a mod that is done by a third party.

Uh, thanks for sharing?
Vbulletin is far more powerful than Invision.
Let's not turn this into a this system versus that system thread. In the end, each forum owner should evaluate what is best for their community; to each their own. We're hoping to work with vBlogetin to standardize our block systems which would, in the end, benefit the forum owners.
With that said, after evaluating vbjournal's current state and codebase, we at Zoints have decided to write an import script to our Zoints Local (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=130946) blogging system which runs nicely on 3.5.x and 3.6.x and will continue to be supported and upgraded. It should be ready soon.
We have an importer for Zoints Local (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=130946) available for testing. We've tested it successfully on a couple forums but want a couple more testers before we release it to the general public. If you're interested, please PM me here.

Replace $whatever[private] with $whatever['private'] inside template conditions. It says that in the thread. ;)
I have a question, recently my search was working great, journals were being used without hassle.
I've triple-checked all permissions in both Journal settings & Usergroup permissions for each group. All have the ability to search, the option is enabled for them in the usergroups but now it just stops working? Everyone no matter what gets an access denied to use the journal search??
This was working fine around 2 weeks ago but i've not needed to search it since, now that I have, I see its broke. Is there anything else I may be missing besides the main config & the usergroup permission entries?? (everything is set to yes in usergroup perms)
Hello,
I thought it would be interesting if we could pull if a user has new comments in their blog when then they log in. I realise it is just a query that needs to be run, but I don't know what it would be.
I was thinking that if they have new blog comments, a phrase would display and if they didn't, one wouldn't be displayed. if it sent a pm and/or email it would also be cool. Kinda like the subscriptions system.
Does anyone have an idea as to how to do this?

this isn't my code though but that removes your settings. i.e. turning it on or off, how many blogs are on index. everything in your journal admin cp will not take affect.
3.6.x brought table changes to datastore, which is causing the errors. Your fix will break the modification even more.

Are you working on a port to 3.6.4 for this, AN-net? Is anyone?
It seems to be working fine for me on 3.6.4 for the most part, but I had to disable the "edit jbuddylist" plugin because it was apparently stepping on the regular buddy/ignore lists. Specifically, when I would add someone to my buddy or ignore lists their name wouldn't be automatically entered into the field on the options page. So I'd have to type it in manually then click save changes to ignore someone or add a buddy.

Then replace the journal.php file you uploaded from the zip in the forums root with the file located in the post found here (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1026644&postcount=1323). Those are the only 2 differences from the readme found in the zip file.
Side note: From the Myspace Profile Rewrite 1.01 that I had fully installed on 3.54. Only viewprofilehits and vbjournal are installed atm.

I am running 3.64 and everything is working great except when you try to post a comment it doesn't show up. This is what happens when you enter your comment and click "Submit New Comment"
If I click the edit button afterwards and type something in the editor and click submit it will post it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance..

My members cannot post properly using Journal with vbulletin 3.6. They can enter their messages but as soon as they go to edit everything disappears. The edit features are no longer available when using the Journal with 3.6. Any help would be much appreciated.
Since I have no idea how to fix this problem I would like someone to tell me how this can be done and hopefully find someone who can do this for me.
Thanks,

It sure is a long thread so apologies if the answer to my question is there I did look however.
Issue: We have upgraded to PHP5 from PHP4, vbJournal works fine under 4 but will not display under 5 any suggestions we really do need PHP5 for other software we run but dont want to loose the vbjournal if possible.

I do believe I have ran into another abandoned mod. Dang!
Still waiting for new version. :)
You might have a HUGE wait. Here is the authors last post in this thread from 22 August 2006:
Andy, feel free to move forward with this hack - as long as I get permission to eventually re-use the code for future versions.
And as for Andy......His last post in this thread: Sept 6, 2006
I'm hoping to have some time during the next few days to finish working on this and get something released. It should be worth noting however, that support will be extremely limited for the time being, upgrade instructions may be somewhat sketchy in places and I cannot confirm that it will work with the vBulletin 3.5.x series..
Thank you for your patience.
I think there is a lot of wishful posting going on here if you are waiting on him. Maybe someone will take it over but I don't see anyone jumping into it.

You have to revert a few templates.. I am not sure which one's. But it worked for me.. I reverted them one by one, and then it worked for me.

I jumped into this thread in august when I was on my first server and it didn't work cuz our server was running PHP5. A few months later, we switched to Host Monster = PHP4 and MySQL version 4.1.21-standard-log. Everything worked fine but I recently switched to Dreamhost because Dreamhost has unlimited cpu usage and Dreamhost is also = PHP4 but MySQL Version 5.0.24a-standard-log. The post below is the only thing I've found posted AFTER my last post that relates to my question:
Comments from some members arent showing up at all - but from most members they are .... any ideas why that may happen ?
The name appears , and everything else , just not the actual comment ... happened to myself as admin on one or two journals.
We can make post... but they don't show and you have to click "Edit" and re-type it then save it for it to show. Any idea on what to do? It's really annoying.

Vblogetin I believe... and if nobody answers to my one little question, I might be forced to buy it.
**Edit**
I'm not buying it due to it only being available for 3.6.x users and I'm NOT updating just for it.

This works for me, a patch for the PHP5 problems
the problem comes from PHP5 having private and public are reserved words, so ive fixed those issues, i cant see anymore issues
ive included all teh files, not just hte ones i patched, and it will overwrite parts of your database to solve issues with that too
Waiting for 3.6.4 release :)

There is definitely a following for this mod. I had it for 3.54 and have waited and waited for an update so your work will be appreciated when you get this great mod ported to 3.64, AN-net.

Sounds like an issue with the template.
You probably have a ' or " around a template variable.
ie: it should be something like $var[whatever] and not $var['whatever']
Can someone please update this to work with PHP 5x?

Abomonation & chadi: Use the template changes bc3tech suggests here (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1359478&postcount=1626) and it should work.
I enabled xcache hack here
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=141005
now I get this when I go to "my journal" area
Warning: unserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /journal.php on line 115
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/user/public_html/includes/class_core.php:3118) in /includes/functions.php on line 2801
If I go to journal index I get this
Warning: unserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /journal.php on line 115
Anyone know how to fix this error?
Installed on 3.6 and it works fine. I didn't do any template edits at all after finding that some of those edits referred to codes which don't exist on my board. Marked as installed.
Will a fresh install of this for 3.7.0 (Beta 5) work...or does this need to be rewritten for 3.7?
Thanks! :)

I'm trying to make sure that all the bbcode functions work within the journal section. All the other bbcode works but this one.
it is a hide function bbcode that allows one to collapse a post into a single line. This is useful for lengthy citations during debates.
Code:
---------------
Code is only visible to licensed users, and only when logged into the forums.
---------------
Anyone have any idea as to what I need to modify to make this work?

It would be a loooot of work to upgrade it, especially since it doesn't support php5. I'd strongly recommend vb blog or try and see if vbadvanced dymanics will be of use.
It does support php 5 (there is a fix somewhere in one of these pages). I've been using it with PHP 5 for 2 years now.

I think I have it?? If you remove the " " from $bbuserinfo[private]==1 (journal.php) and from $journalinfo[private]==1 (journal_journalpage) they save in vbulletin. Now I've not run them through tests yet but they did pass the vbulletin check on them and seem to be working on my site. Under php5.
I just wanted to say thanks to Tulsa...you really helped me out, mang. I appreciate this solution as there's no way I would have figured out it was with that template...I was looking at the wrong template entirely thanks to line 48 in journal.php. Turns out it was in that template. Thanks a bunch!
For some reason all journal creations and entries are getting placed in the mod queue, even though my settings are set to auto approve. Anyone know what would cause this?
