Does anyone have a testing site that they could test this on?

I'd really like to find out if it's a problem with just my site or a vb-wide one.

If I hit "New Posts" on my forum right now the sidebar is a lot longer than the center. But it's still all vertical in both IE and FF. Default style.

Hmm, strange one. I have the issue in both custom and default styles. The two blocks currently being screwed with are Tag Cloud and Forum Posts. Will need to test with different blocks to see if it's an issue specifically with these ones.

I'm on 4.0.6 now too.:confused:

Wow. Looks like it's just those two blocks that suffer. Changed the display order so that they were 1 & 2 and the sidebar displays perfectly.:erm:

Can i activate ESB also on CMS and Blog ? If yes, how?

Ha for me this mod works exactly the other way around :) When I enable it and i am not logged in it forces the sidebar perfectly. The moment I login as admin i don't see them anywere anymore ;)

When you hit settings the page will start in "Subscribed Threads"

so you need to disable the sidebar for that you may also need to disable it for "profile"

Fantastic mod, it seems crazy that this is not a default option.

All that said, I am going to be really picky as the alignment is just not quite right for me. My current install looks like this:



I would really like the top of the sidebar to be at the same vertical level as the main conent div to the left of the sidebar.

Anybody got any ideas on how to do that?

Just incase anybody else is searching the thread for a solution to this vertical alignment of the sidebar issue, the resolution is:

Open the forumhome.css template and find the #sidebar_container declaration, in there change the padding value to suit your site. I set mine to 50px (original value is 17px)

Btw, i found a small bug in filtering block with type html / php. This block type is not being filtered correctly due to problem of identifying the block_id.

For block type HTML the html bit after block_id is looks like this
class="blockbody floatcontainer restore"
instead of
class="blockbody floatcontainer"

Hence adding the following line to after line 553 seems to do the trick!

Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Another thing to fix would be not to display sidebar on certain pages where no block is displayed due to filter!

For example sidebar is enabled for forumdisplay but the filter is such that on certain forumid, there should be no block! In that case we have an empty column which isn't nice.

Im having a real hard time with this. I love the functionality this mod provides, but on my home screen, the sidebar actually shows up at the bottom of the forum.

Is there a plan to resolve this, or a functional work around?

I want to configure your mod to display different blocks for different forums.

However, block 6 still displays in all forums when I think that it should only display in forum 275 - so I'm not at all clear as to what I am doing wrong.

Tried that, but block 3 and block 6 are still both visible on the home page and in forum 275.

I am trying to get block 6 only visble in forum 275 only.

There's clearly something I don't understand here.

My aim is eventually to try to get different blocks to appear in each of 5 or 6 level 2 forums to aid the sense of cohesion of the entire site and to aid navigation. The aim is that as well as menu options changing, they will be colour coded to the forum and will reflect the forum that they are associated with.

What a great mod! Unfortunatly when I install it, it places the sidebar below my footer on forumhome and showtread. I do have to add I have a custom theme. Could you provide me the info which template to edit and below which line more a less (keywords will do) this way I can have it working on my custom style. I think in your case you need to replace

I have this same problem on a custom skin. Any ideas on how to fix?

My users are asking for persistence of sidebar preferences. If they close it, they are expecting it to stay closed for the duration of the time they are logged in. How can I do this?

It does that for me. No probs. My problem is that I still can't get it to hide on chaosen forums. I still have to organise access details for the mod developer.

I just upgraded from 1.14 to 1.34 and it now works for me. I hadn't realized I wasn't running the latest code.

I still get a "Flash of Unstyled Content" when the page loads. the sidebar shows for a second then hides. Is there anything that can be done about that?

Yes, I get that too. It's not a problem but I suppose that if it were resolved, it would be better

It's a nice mod.. however with a custom style like mine it hardly works..
Since it uses "pagetitle" to find where to put the sidebar it does not work for my style; I have edited the plugin hook to have it moved however that leads to more problems:

In my style it has pagetitle for some locations (forumdisplay, memberlist, etc.) and then doesn't have pagetitle for others (forumhome, showthread, etc.) so by changing id=pagetitle to something else I can either have it work in some locations or other locations but not all.

in forumhome plugin not everywhere. Every page has its own search term.

What you need to do is go to manage plugins from admincp and change the plugin of ESB for everypage that is not working for you

Still haven't got it to display differently on different pages - still haven't sorted out access details either ....

Your side bar is a secuirty risk to the forum.

(1) Exclude does not work - private posts are entered into the
sidebar, even when the post is deleted, it still remains on the
sidebar. I guess you could place a x on each post in the sidebar
so that admin can delete what does not need to be there, but if
it automaticly removed the post to begin with, then we would not
need such an option.

When you add better privacy measures, then I will
test again.

The sidebar is a vb4 sidebar and not mine!!!

This mod i just displaying the original sidebar that comes with vb4 everywhere in the forum.

So if what you are saying is true, which I don't think so. Then you blame vbulletin not this mod

I am not vb's beta tester, I do not care what they do...
its not like it provides anything unique content to the forum anyway...
most do not even like it as it looks bulky...

The only small problem I have is that in Firefox, on Showthread, it loads the forum wide and then afterwards (less than one second, but easily seen) it loads the side bar and the forum goes narrow. So everything jumps around.

It works fine on every other page - the sidebar loads and the forum loads to the right of it. And it works fine in IE.

Is there any way to get the sidebar to load first on Showthread? I have looked with Firebug but can't work it out.

You can either change it in the "product-everywhere_sidebar_1.3.4.xml" then re-install the product

or you search for sidebarext_temp tmeplate from your admincp and change it from there

So disabling for certain styles isn't working. We set one style Id, or we set every style ID, and we still see it.

What are we doing wrong?

It works great everywhere but we can't get the rest of the functionality.

I think that we may start writing our own one.

In settings I said "NO" to show in profile pages.

but on member profile pages , it still shows the sidebar.

This is very confusing, I checked the settings and everything should be fine.

This is an awesome mod! Way to go! I have a couple of questions:

1) How do I adjust the width of it? Is it possible to fixed width or fluid width? If so, how do I adjust it accordingly?

I made sure to search the comments first for an answer to my issue but can't find it. Right now, the mod displays properly on all the pages. The issue I'm having is displaying a block only on certain forums. I'm trying to display a Latest Threads block (block_newthreads_12) for a specific forum so I put in "block_newthreads_12:1" without quotes into the "Filter blocks by forums" field. However, that block still shows up on all the forums.

VB version: 4.0.5

Also, is there a way to show a block for a forum and its child forums rather than have to specify the id of each of the child forums along with the parent forum? If you look at my site, if I want to show a block for the parent "Homeroom - SF Bay Area" and all its child forums, is there a easier way to go about it?

For the record, my issue is to also remove sidebar from our mobile style, and this also did not help.

If i Hide the Sidebar with the arrows and loads the page new, the Sidebar shows a short time, and then disappers. Thats a little bit crappy. Has anyone a solution for that?

Where is the width of the sidebar controlled? In what file? Css? And, how do I change it?

Some of my users have the same problem.
It seems this depends on the css rendering of the user browser and the power of the machine they use to display the forum.
For example :
A fast pc with chrome has no issue rendering the page with the sidebar masked with the arrow.
(It seems that IE has no issue either)
A fast pc with firefox will see a fast appear/disappear sidebar
An old pc with firefox will see a slow and annoying appear/disappear sidebar

No solution yet

Sorry I didn't search carefully enough. I didn't realize I needed to put "block_newthreads_12:" on the page filter section as well. That did the trick of showing the block only in the forums I specify in the forum filter section.

The other question I had was inheritance - is there a way to do inheritance so that all the subforums within a parent forum also display that block?

How to have it on the left side ? I'm using arabic fonts and original sidebar on the left, once this MOD is installed is switches to right side.

Couldn't find anything that allows me to change the width...it's set like this: stylevar forum_sidebar_width...where do I set the width in pixels?

First make sure you install mod last version 134

second if it changed after installation of the mod (which I doubt) go to Forum Sidebar and Block Options and change it back to left it should work

To change it in all styles: from MASTER STYLE select stylevars
in search stylevar box put "forum_sidebar_width" hit enter now select "forum_sidebar_width" from left list this should display the sidebar settings on the right pan. You should be able to change sidebar width from there

tried msg you yesterday cause I had problems finding this post again, but I did finally ;)
I have tried update it for my vbulletin 4.0.7 installation many times now, but it wont work.
what todo ? first I updated, then I uninstalled and reinstalled, but still, no blocks appear.

If for any reason you changed the sidebar template "sidebarext_temp" then it want update for the new installation. Uninstall remove "sidebarext_temp" template if exist then reinstall.

What I understand that this mod was working before you upgraded to 4.0.7 and now not working. Is this what you are saying?

I don't know if there is any problem with 4.0.7!!!

Can somebody else confirm if this mod is working on 4.0.7 or not?
