Huh? Change it to what? I don't understand your question at all. Examples and images are always welcome if they help describe the question/problem.

I strongly suggest you download the document in Don's blog here - vB4: Skinning Your Forum in 10 Easy Steps The stylevars are shown there. You may also want to download the firebug plugin for firefox to help make things a lot easier. (forumbits_aForum)

When you hover over the tab? Or just category colors?
For forum colors theres a mod, or you can add font html to a template. No members have liked this post.

Did you look in that document? Did you grab that addon I mentioned? Have you tried looking in the source code to find the class of that bar and then looked it up?

image behind forum catagories
How do I put my own image behind forum categories? I've downloaded Don's stuff, but I can't figure out how to get my own image behind the forum categories. See attached. I've added the color purple to the background, but I want an entire image (of my own) there, which is how i have my current vb3 forum set up.

What stylevar did you change to add the color? Isn't there a background url in that same stylevar?
