I'm trying to get this mod (How To Add Drop Down Menus To Your Navbar) to work on my website. I'm running vB 3.8.7PL3 and need a little handholding to get this done. I decided to leave your "custom menu" and "Custom Menu" in place in order to get it going first and then [once going], I could change things up. Below is what I have so far. I'm listing my titles in red.

Hello Bob, This edit is not working for you? If you added the code to the correct location as per instructions it will wok flawlessly.

I want the Main drop-down heading to be "New York" (with no link).

I want the remaining drop-down subheadings for New York to be:

1) "NY Caught-The-Skunk.com Supporters" + Link
2) "Fishing Flea Markets" + Link
3) "Outdoor Sports' Shows" + Link

etc...etc...etc..., as I'm trying to convert a vertical menu to a horizontal menu. As it sits, the text "Custom Menu" is not even close to the designated location. It's showing up outside (i.e., below the Breadcrumb Menu), just below the text/link "User CP."

I copied my entire Navbar code and placed the mod in RED. Please edit as necessary. I would very much appreciate your help in getting this done.

I figure that after I get one set done that I can struggle through the others. If not, I'll be back on here seeking help again.

Well, first things first. Let's put the actual part people are going to click on to open the menu in the right place.

vBulletin looked a little different when this tutorial was made in 2006, so it's not going to work under the first instance of <if condition="$show['popups']">. However, you've put it under the third instance. It needs to go somewhere under the second, otherwise it's incomplete table code just floating on the page somewhere. Let's put it in after/under the Calendar for right now:

(NOTE: That hashtag is important. Removing it will actually do the opposite of what you want it to do.)

You can put this pretty much anywhere you want, as long as you keep it inside the giant <table> that's containing all the menu items. Remember that it's a <td> cell, which means if you don't nest it properly, it won't look right. A proper table is made of the <table> itself, then table rows <tr> then row divisions <td>.

Now the menu itself can go right where you had it. No one is going to see it until it's clicked on. But the code's a little mussy. The menu is a little table itself, with multiple rows <tr>, but only one <td> per row. Again, it needs to be properly nested to show up right.

Then when you get to styling it, just use the classes, as they're shown in the example. class="thead" for headers, and class="vbmenu_option" for the clickable areas. (Though a header can also be a link, if needed.) Hopefully, that get's you started on the right track.

Overnight, I was able to get the double-menu up with the appropriate headings ([COLOR="rgb(0, 100, 0)"]code in green[/color]) in place. Now, I need help with placement/editing of the code for the sub-heading drop-downs on the top part of the double-menu. I highlighted the code (in red) that Digital Jedi helped me with establishing a drop-down on the bottom part of the double-menu. That way, it can be moved if necessary to make things work on the top part. Once I get the correct coding established, I will do the same for the remaining states that my website covers, i.e., NJ, PA, DE, MD, & VA.

So is this a second navbar? If each of these are going to be their own individual drop down menus, then it looks fine. Each one will need it's own unique ID. In the three places custommenu appeared (twice in the navbar link, and once in the drop down menu), you'll put the unique id. That tells which button what to open and from where.

If that's where you want them, in a separate navbar, then they can technically go wherever you want. So long as everything is nested properly, they'll show up wherever you want them. Even outside the default navabar. It seems to be in it's own main div container, so you should be good as long as you've nested it properly in the overall HTML.

For these, the actual content of dropdown menus, these will all go in the same location as the fist one you made. That's mainly so you can find them again, and so they don't interfere with anything else. Their location is not the important part, however. Their unique identifiers are. The ID is what tells the the item clicked on which menu to display. So for example, you could just call the New York navbar link newyork:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

See the two instances of newyork? That was where the two instances of custommenu were. This particular link is now going to execute JavaScript that's going to look for a div with the prefix newyork in its ID when someone clicks on it. So the actual menu content's id would be the one below:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

So, you give each of your cities/menu something unique to identify them by. So long as don't use any special characters or spaces, you can call them whatever you want.

Each menu item is a div with a table inside of them, so yes. Anything opened (<tag>) will have to be properly closed (</tag>). Similar to before:

Actually, you can still follow his tutorial, just pick the image you want to use. Open up the Style Manager as he directs and look for the Edit CSS option. Then look for the block that handles the vbmenu_control class. Because it's CSS, you can do, well, all kinds of things to the menu. But just try out as he's directed, and you should get a really good idea of what you want to do from there. Also check W3Schools for their CSS tutorials and reference guide. Their very explanatory, but very brief. Easy to quickly grasp CSS from their tutorials in my opinion.

After pulling my hair out for a few hours, I finally (through trial and error) figured it out. I actually wound up deleting the GREEN CODE and worked with your suggestions. Thank God! And thanks to the Digital Jedi too! Lots of work to put in all of those drop-downs in (6) headings but I really like it. Now I don't have to work on putting the "Superfish" menu up.

Now...as far as the BUTTON EFFECT is concerned, I have found the "CSS Selector: vbmenu_control" under "Popup Menu Controls" in the Admin CP.

Very important: I do NOT want to use his image; just want to use the standard "blue" Background (#738FBF) on the entire top & bottom menus, as the button's color. Just looking for the button effect.

My current default "Extra CSS Attributes" in the "Popup Menu Controls" is currently set as:

padding 3px 6px 3px 6px
white-space: nowrap;

How do I get the button effect?

I think you might mean something else by "button effect" than what he's demonstrating in his tutorial. In his case, the image IS the button effect. He creates the illusion of buttons by adding a background image to that class and adjusting its padding so there appears to be spaces in between. You can still have that kind of button without a background image, it would just be solid in color.

And/or maybe a white (or other color) vertical dividing line to separate the headings?

I personally would do that by setting the left or right margins to about a pixel or so. Something like margin-left:2px;. That would put a space beside every menu item, which will be the background color of the navbar. Try something like this in the additional CSS field:
