Lightbulb Many hacks, optimizations, plugins, etc... www.limmac.org

My site http://www.limmac.org has quite a few hacks, optimizations, plugins, and custom work done. Once a user is signed up, they get additional access granted via promotions after a week + 10 posts. To a non-registered user the site and some of it's content is still viewable, enough, in my opinion to make them want to register to access more. Once they're signed up, again, just enough to encourage participation.

Be kind, I set the board up 3 months ago and we're progressively growing, steady and controlled.

Any and all input, comments, etc are welcomed!

Personally i'd remove the quick register bar, that drives away new users, and makes the whole layout very cluttered.

thats another thing i'd mention: add a few more spaces between categories, and the navbar... it looks too cluttered in my eyes

but apart from that not bad

I was thinking about that too, it looked WAY too busy when I added the Quick Register bar. Same with the spacing, between the Announcements and the NavBar, and the Announcement and the forumdisplay.

How about this: http://www.limmac.org/?styleid=9

yeah looks much better that way. Also it is very annoying, everytime I enter a new page on the site, a popup opens that says "Click ok to run ActivX control on this webpage" and then I have to click ok on each page, which made me just exit the site.

also on the first link that you posted on your first post, there is an error on your page, "Done, but with error on page"

"line: 42
char: 24
error: syntax error
code: 0
url: http://www.limmac.org/"

not bad overal though, you got a good site going with good amount of info, keep up the good work.

The color scheme you've chosen matches your forum's theme so kudos on that. I'd choose a different border-right/border-bottom color (other than black or dark hue) to add a contrast against the background. I agree with the above about spacing your content. You can simply accomplish that with a "line-height" attribute in the body CSS tag if you want to maintain the current padding.

Keep up the good work.

I know about the "Done, but with error on page" it's a problem I've yet to figure out with the NavMenu on the left. I asked for help coding it, got no help. I purposely left a " off in 3 spots in order to achieve the look it has now. Because with the "s it caused a weird formatting issue with the text in the tbody rows.

As for the active-x and the no-quick-reg... I have to have 1 of them, and I'm thinking of getting rid of the active-x and putting back the quick-reg, but placing it above the header image instead.

Freesteyelz, I know you're the king of CSS, but I'm lost as to what you mean regarding the "different border-right/border-bottom color (other than black or dark hue)" ??

Updated it with what I suggested above: http://www.limmac.org/?styleid=9

Hahaa. You caught me off-guard with that one.

Anyway, if I'm not mistaken you're using an "outset" with 2px for your bordering. Notice for each border the top and left are bluish in tone while the right and bottom are dark. I think the bluish color you're using is #0085AC but I could be wrong. With "outset" the right and bottom borders disappear into the background #10375D.

Looks good overall, but the marquee is rather distracting...

I changed things around on the main style and deleted the test style so now it's just www.limmac.org if you want to see the changes.

Also, Freesteyelz:

This is the code I use for the CSS table "3D" effect.

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

The color goes all the way around, however on the bottom and right it overlaps it somehow down to 1px.

Yup. That's the exact code I mentioned in post #7. The way it displays is the natural effect of outset bordering.

Well, I re-oriented the Quick Register, and changed the scrolling Announcements to a static linked title to our meetings forum. Also got the auto-created threads in our Link/Downloads/Media section to include the thumbnails if included. All in all I think it's come along nicely, especially the custom template I wrote for the L/D/M section displays.
