You don't actually need a code mod to do this. A postbit template mod could do it for you. what you would do is have a conditional at the bottom of the postbit to check if $post[posts]=1 If it is, then you show the dummy post template which would be at the bottom of the postbit. It would look just like a welcome post.

I understand that, thanx for letting me know... so i would have to create a new template with the post info i'd need then call it if posts=1 and this would create a reply or merge it into the persons post ? - is it possible to also make the post from a user id i select...like my forum bot for example?... thanx Amy i know your busy....but this would help me so greatly, cheers

How is this 'dummy post template' setup? part of the posbit template if posts=1...or called from another template...?

basically i add this conditional, i can then copy the postbit add it at the bottom, insert my values <!-- message -->hi<!-- / message --> etc etc even have it from another user.... but will it enter the dudes posts or add it as a reply?

No. You don't create a new template. You edit the bottom of your existing postbit with a conditional.

Cheers Amy... i thought as much... but it's still confusing... i can see the postbit template as the way the post is built and so besides the rest ... <!-- message -->hi<!-- / message --> would be my edit to create the reply i needed etc... BUT... would this destroy the members original post and insert mine instead?...i have the feeling it would... i wondered how a reply could be created rather than <if posts=1 then sod users post...here's mine>

It's an ADDED post beneath the member's original post. It doesn't replace the original post. I don't have time to do this for you, but I think I've given enough hints as to the simplicity of it that some other coder could come along and release it for you as a template mod.
