We'd like to get feedback from everyone regarding this suggestion, made by Taco John:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...threadid=47023 Please vote on the poll, yes or no. Also, if you've made a hack that you think is worthy of its own sub-forum here at vBulletin.org, please post a link to it here and tell us why you think it's worthy. Please keep chit chat on this thread to a minimum, and discuss this suggestion in the original thread: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...threadid=47023 Thanks!

Answer: No
Reason: I don't think this is fair to those hacks that don't get alot of installs, but are well coded - I have seen a few hacks that I think are great, but only have 4 or 5 installs, and are not widely known...Therefore I think it is wrong, because people with well known hacks are bound to get more votes whether their coding is good or not so good... It's a good idea for certain hacks with high traffic like Lesane's Store, Quickreply, vbindex etc. If a hack's post count is over 500, thread becomes completely unreadable and thread's functionality drops dramatically so they can use a dedicated forum.
However IMO hack author should be giving a good support for this hack to get a forum, otherwise individual threads in a seperate forum with no answers has no point.. My 2 cents.. BTW. as for my own hacks I don't have a forum request for any of them..

No.
I agree with hellsatan. Just because a hack is well know, doesn't mean it is better than other hacks that are less well known. Really, people would be competing on how they name their hack and how much could be added to it. The forums theirselves wouldn't be great. There'd probably be 100's of threads on "What is this error?", and it turns out that they didn't run any queries. I think the current system is great.

I don't think this is a good idea.
I believe there would be no sense making a whole subforum just for one hack. Maybe a subforum for each section of hacks? Like the hacks section. It's split up in sections like 'Admin/Maintenance' and 'Forumhome enhancements'. Maybe you could do that with subforums for the hacker's threads rather than an entire sub-forum for one hack. I believe it would just make vBulletin.org a bit slower. Dave.

I was very reluctant to reply here because you said keep chit chat here to a minimum but if everyone else is giving their two cents then i will..
I agree entirely with Logician in the fact that you can't expect a user to shift through 500+ posts in a a thread to search for an error or such. Perhaps there should be an "option" to create an FAQ for you hack. In the hack's thread perhaps a button for "Create FAQ" then you go to a screen where you can input up to three FAQ's at a time. Then you could have a little box on the right of the quick reply forum in the full releases forum which would say something like: "Make sure to check the FAQ for this hack before posting any questions" - that could only be applicable if the user has created an FAQ. IMO that would be far more useful than having a forum for each hack. Regards - miSt

Great Idea !!
I think mine Rpg Hack should Have its own forum for sure. That one thread is kinda pushing it with error reports and such. Plus when it comes outta beta things wil go even crazier. the url is: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...threadid=46918 My reasoning: This hack is bigger than big, its a whopping 1.3 megs and has sooo many possibilities for extra hacks, On top of that i have been telling users to post addons in the thread and not make them as new hckas to keep people from being annoyed, but with a sub forum that would no longer be a problem cause people can post addons in their own thread, and im sure you could also set up a sticky system that lets you dub things as addons and sticky them to the top, and possibly let the hack creator have this ability for his/her sub forum (just a suggestion) But i think this hack definately could use a sub fourm, and since its in beta and every time i send out a patch we all know the errors fly in.. Ok ill end my rambles and say I really could use a sub forum for my hack **to Chen i got your icq message, im just waiting for the full version to email you about it cause the beta is already leaked to every site anyways, plus to get the patch for the errors they have to have liecenceing anyways** Also after so many pages you could make it create a sub forum as well ^^ No members have liked this post.

I agree with Zaj, larger hacks like his RPG, as well as Lesane's store should have sub forums, because this brings on the possibility of add ons being inspired...I think we're all experianced enough in the forum business to know that when you De-Generalize a topic, I.E. make sections for different ASPECTS, people tend to delve way deeper into the topic at hand...
Here the topic is vBulletin hacks...I think that this is a practical idea that should be implimented, and I predict support for some of these more major additions would increase in effectiveness, as well as quality... I do hope you take it into high consideration... No members have liked this post.

I disagree. Just becuase a hack is huge doesn't mean it is super great and should be used by everybody and just because a hack is really small doesn't mean it isn't (very) useful (a lot are more useful than the huge hacks). Really, that FAQ idea is really, really good, and I think that if anything is added, it should be.

i think once it hits so many pages it should get it's own sub forum because if people have that many posts about it, even if it's not getting support by the author it's getting support/help/addons by somebody and this would just help seperate and make it easier to find info on a particular thing
so i voted yes No members have liked this post.

Small or large, all hacks play a role within this community. If the sub-forums are planned out how I am viewing them (from the top of my head), the larger hacks having their own forum(s) would let the smaller hacks rise a bit in the rankings as they would not be pushed down by the larger hacks within the same forum.
While I do not post as often as I used to due to my hosting website and others, I have been here and back and have noticed that larger hacks seem to dominate the top; be it for support, errors, or just for "thanks". Seperating the hacks a bit would help a great deal in my honest opinion; it certainly would help those smaller hack authors get the exposure for their hacks. I can't say that all of the larger hacks are "top notch" but some really do derserve a forum of their own as when you have a thread with 100+ replies and the hack author asks you to search the thread for an answer posted a while back (even with the search option) it is very tedious. I say go for it! No members have liked this post.
