Question Disable IP Address Viewing for Mods and Super-Mods everywhere on Vb Forums ?

How can we disable IP Viewing for Moderators and Super-Moderators everywhere on forums ?

Disable IP Address viewing even from Admincp and modcp.

Looking for a hack/modification for same, i assume a few more members mite be interested in same thing.
We are planning to appoint lots of new moderators, so a IP security @ begining would be a nice feature for privacy issues of members.

Adopted from this thread - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116615 on vbulletin.com

Being able to view IP addresses is an integral part of being a moderator, any member worried about a sites moderators having access to them is either insanely paranoid, and shouldn't be on the net at all - or more probably - has something to hide.

As posted above, our exisiting mods have the ability to IP Viewing completely.. (all are supermoderators ) since we are appoiting around 10+ New Moderators on a trial basis (as its a tech forum) , we prefer to hide the IP Address of our users for 10 days..

Admincp -> Usergroups -> usergroup manager -> mods -> select no for "Can View IP Addresses".

I would assume that globally disables it...if not, it should

I know this thread is almost two years old!!!!! But I have good reason to resurrect it.

I tried to disable my Supermoderators from being able to view IP addys in the Usergroup Manager but even if you put no, they can still see it.

The reason I ask is that I installed that Anonymous Posting hack and wanted to have a little fun with my supermods and disable it temporarily. Why does that function in the usergroup manager appear to not work? Just wondering and if this is an overide function then is there a hack to disable IP viewing?

Thanks.

Because the issupermoderator overrides it, as a super moderator basicly has all settings set to yes for forum moderation, which includes viewing ips.

Thanks Zachery for the quick reply.

issupermoderator? is that a php.file
I'm new to hacks and coding and wouldn't likely mess with that.

Are moderators also overriden as well? If I set them to not view IP's will they not have the ability? Thanks.

No, its not a php file, its a permission setting at the bottom of the usergroup options, its above administrator. Its what makes a super mod a super mod./

Ah, now I understand. Once you make someone a mod or supermod via Admin Control Panel, that kills the IP addy controls above for those two usergroups.

Now let me ask you this. Is there a way to remove the IP address icon from the forums itself that you see if your are an admin./mod? After working with hacks it seems that this would be written somewhere and if I removed it then the IP icon would dissapear thus giving nobody IP addy control via the icon in the posts. As I said, I plan on doing this just to have a little fun with my moderators. One of my wise moderators said, "HAHAHA, your anonymous postng feature sucks. All I did was looked at your the IP by clicking on the icon and I busted you"
I just like to get back at them and let them know who is King!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!

I realize it is important for your admins and mods to see ips. But, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of fun is there? Thanks for your help. I think I have seen you on vbulletin.com. How you have time to help out on both forums is amazing. Your time is most appreciated.

No, not mods, moderator permissions are still assigned when they are assigned to a forum, however a supermod permission (by default for the admin and smod group) sets all moderator permissions to yes, period.

Thanks again for the reply.
I used a test account and made their primary usergroup "Moderator."
I then made them moderator of one forum.
I also dissabled the viewing IP addy for the usergroup Moderators. However, he can still see the IP addy icon in the forum he is assigned to as moderator. Did I set a control wrong? It appears from what you are saying, you CAN disable IP viewing for "Moderators," but I am not seeing that.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Then the moderator usergroup hsa the super moderator permission. Or when you assigned them as a moderator, you did not uncheck the ip viewing permissions the moderator gets.

Users are not moderators in the moderator group, nor do they get any moderator permissions in this group by default. THey get moderator permissions when they are assigned to a forum.

Hi Zachery,

I checked and double checked. And got this result.

I did the following:

Usergroup Manager>Moderators>Edit

In Administrator Permissions:

Can View IP Addresses: NO

Can Moderate All Forums (is Supermoderator) NO
Can Access Control Panel (is Administrator) NO

I then made the test account the following:

Primary Usergroup: Moderators

Forum Manager>Add Moderators

I made this test account a moderator of ONE forum.

Here is what I saw:

The test account appeared to be a Registered Member with no powers in all the sections except for the one I assigned him as Moderator. In the section that he was assigned, he had moderator powers and the IP address icon was still present. I think this is what the settings are supposed to be to disable him from viewing IP's but he is still seeing them. Am I still missing something here?
