After upgrading my 3.0.0 version (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65198) of this hack a long time back and repeatedly asking for it to be moved here in the 3.5.3 area with no success. I decided to add it here myself.

Despite what category this is in it works with vBulletin 3.0 up to the most recent version of 3.5.3. Just read the directions.

What this does is create another navbar with drop down menu’s by typing $navbar2 in any of your templates. It is just like the one that comes with vBulletin 3.

After seeing a lot of replies about users wanting another navbar besides the basic one that comes with vBulletin. I waited for someone else to write one. But no one stepped forward and wrote one. I wanted this for my site and got tired of waiting for someone else to write it. So I played around and created this one for myself. I though I would share it with everyone.

Note#1: If you do not want to add a separate navbar template you can also substitute the steps in 5A through 5D and insert the navbar2.txt after you have edited it the way you want and into the same places as I mentioned for the $navbar2 in your default navbar and you will not have to do any of these other steps.

I put a lot of description tags in the HTML file to help explain what everything does. Once you understand what is going on here you can removed these. With very little modifications you can add to, remove or move items around in this navbar.

1. To install this hack you will have to create a template in you ADMINCP and call it “navbar2” and insert the contents of the attached file "navbar2.txt" into this template file. Right now it is set up for my site. So you will have to modify it to what you want in this navbar for your site.

2. Put the following command in your phpinclude_start template:
eval('$navbar2 = "' . fetch_template('navbar2') . '";');
2A. This is for users that have vB 3.5 and up. Step 2 will not work because the phpinclude_start template no longer exist in versions 3.5 and higher. So for 3.5 users ignore step 2 and use 2A.

Plugin System
Add new Plugin

Hook Location: global_start
Title: navbar2
Plugin PHP Code:
eval('$navbar2 = "' . fetch_template('navbar2') . '";');
3. Now put the following command in you header or what ever template where your want the new navbar to be displayed (samples of where to put them are in the attached photos and directions are in 5A, B, C, D.):
$navbar2
4. Since the template is uncached you will have an extra query on each page. To fix, open global.php
Find:
// misc useful
Add below:
'navbar2',
5A. Under current Navigation / Breadcrumb Templaters - navbar:
Find:

<!-- / nav buttons bar -->

Below that place:

$navbar2

5B. On top of forums tables:
Find:

<!-- / PAGENAV POPUP -->
</if>

Below that place:

$navbar2

5C. Under your header:
Find:

<br />
<!-- breadcrumb, login, pm info -->

Above that add:

$navbar2

5D. Top of current navbar:
Find:

<!-- breadcrumb, login, pm info -->

Under that add:

$navbar2

vBadvance CMPS using vB 3.5 or higher. To get this working with the homepage you will have to do the following.

Go into your ADMINCP-->vBa CPMS-->Default Setting-->Portal Output Global Variables and add navbar2 in the block there and save it.

Arcaded hack. You will need to go into your darcaded hack and edit a line. Here are the directions:
Go to you arcade/functions/functions.php
open it with a text editor:
Find:
global $header, $vbphrase, $vboptions, $stylevar, $headinclude, $bbuserinfo, $session, $show, $pmbox;
global $forumjump, $timezone, $logincode, $_USEROPTIONS, $scriptpath, $admincpdir, $modcpdir, $quickchooserbits;

Replace with:
global $header, $vbphrase, $vboptions, $stylevar, $headinclude, $bbuserinfo, $session, $show, $pmbox;
global $forumjump, $timezone, $logincode, $_USEROPTIONS, $scriptpath, $admincpdir, $modcpdir, $quickchooserbits, $navbar2;

Is a demo (http://www.tech-unity.com/forums/index.php?) enough?

Excellent little hack ;)

Looks similar to this one http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92012

It may be similar. Mine has been out since 16 May 2004 though. As I stated in the hack after upgrading my 3.0.0 version of this hack a long time back and repeatedly asking for it to be moved here in the 3.5.0 area with no success. I decided to add it here myself. So this hack has been around since 16 May 2004 and I have been supporting it and upgrading it with every upgrade to Vbulletin. But no one would move it for me. So I moved it an started it all over again in the 3.5.3 section.

The difference is that the version you mentioned does not have directions for drop down menus. Mine does and this version also gives you the option to install it in you default navbar or have a seperate navbar template for the second navbar.

Here is where my old version was before I moved it over here to the 3.5.0 section.

heh, well thats good information for someone.

the difference is also that in the other hack is that you have to use the default navbar and the extra one.

This hack can let you do one or the other or both. This will be very useful for me, thanks.

attroll I was wondering if you could add some code (just with lots of comments) so that we could use a login like in the default navbar. I'd like to use this to replace the default navbar on some pages I'm using which are built with webtemplates.

where do I look, to find global.php as instructed in step #4 above?

attroll
06 Feb 2006, 18:21
question....for 3.5.3 do we still have to make the 2nd navbar template?

I am confused at what you are asking.

It depends on how you install this as to whether you need the 2nd navbar template. If you installing it in the default navbar as explained above in Note#1 then you do not have to do any of the other steps.

If your not doing it as described in Note#1 then you are going to have to go through all the other steps.

LOL... I edited my post almost immediately, but it must have been slow.

I figured all that out and already have all my styles done. You might want to add in your note above that if they do the 2nd navbar scenario they have to do that for each style they have installed on their forum. Alot of people have more than 1 or 2 styles.... I have 6

I just installed VbAdvanced 2.1.0 into my site about 5 minutes ago and I have it working with the main page. Did you do this step that was listed in the directions.

Ok I have a question.... I have my estore on my navbar2 template, but the estore popup menu code calls for it to be placed on the navbar template above the <!-- / NAVBAR POPUP MENUS --> code.

But I noticed that you have a pop up (or drop down) menu on your second nav bar... where did you place the code??

Does the estore require a drop down menu or just a single link?

If you could post the code that the estore need to have in the navbar I could help you.

If you want it to look like 5A, then you would go into you ADMINCP and into your NAVAGATION/BREADCRUMB TEMPLATES-->NAVBAR and do a search for:
<!-- / nav buttons bar -->
And under that code insert this:
$navbar2

It seems that the session id is not being passed...

Every link via this addon menu brings a member to the login screen (even when already logged in). Once login done the actual page appears.

Session needs to be given through this menu!!
Otherwise very good addition.

I can not be loggged in and my additional navbar apears and all the links work in the additional navbar. If you Pm me and explain it and send me your email address you can send you navbar2 template and I will look at it.

is there a way to detach the navbars (both the navbar and navbar2) from the breadcrumbs bar? Have them underneath and independent of the breadcrumbs bar?

Yes you can do it with the navbar2 as it explains in the install procedures. I am sure it can be done with the original navbar also you would just have to isolate the code.

Ok question... I'm having a very hard time getting the new navbar to take on the characteristics of the existing navbar. The font, font size, and background color inside the navbar are all different from the original one.

any advice on how I can fix this please?

you can see what I'm talking about at http://www.exquisitelyerotic.net/forums

EDIT... never mind I think I got it ;)

Question here too
Using 3.5.4
First off I'm pretty new to all this stuff and vB, been using it about 6 months now. I did a search for what I'm trying to do and it lead me to this thread.
I don't necessarily want an additional navbar, I just want to add an additional drop-down menu to the existing navbar. I sorted thru the txt file you have here and found what I thought would do it, and edited the navbar template.
As you can see in the attached image below it DID make 'Members' a 'title' with the drop-down button beside it. However, nothing happens when you click on it... nothing drops down.
This is my navbar template as it exists.. would someone take a looksey and see if they can figure out what I did wrong?

ugh, and now my UserCP link in the navbar isn't a dropdown...

<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="calendar.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[calendar]</a></td>

Any help would be appreciated :)

I am not going to go into to much detail here because this thread was designed for supporting this hack.

First you have to know some basic HTML when doing some things like this. When installing hacks they pretty much tell you step by step so little to no html experience is needed at times.

For what you want to do you will need to look through your NAVBAR template and find where you want to drop down menu to be displayed.

This is where you need to know basical HTML because you need to know exactly where to place it.

But this is the code for you will need to place in your NAVBAR for the first part of the drop down menu. You will need to edit this code with the data you want in it.

<!-- Setup for drop down menu #1 in navbar -->
<td id="dropdown1" class="vbmenu_control"><a href="#dropdown1">Drop Down Menu Listing #1</a> <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("dropdown1"); </script></td>
<!-- / Setup for down menu #1 in navbar-->

Now you will need to find the location to put the second part of the dropdown code. This is usually under this code somewhere:

<!-- / NAVBAR POPUP MENUS -->

<!-- PAENAV POPUP -->

The second part of the code that you want to place will be this. You will need to edit it to what you want in it.

<!-- Drop down for menu #1 in navbar-->
<div class="vbmenu_popup" id="dropdown1_menu" style="display:none">
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0">
<tr><td class="thead">Drop Down Menu Listing #1</a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="yourlink.com">Option #1</a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="yourlink.com">Option #2</a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="yourlink.com">Option #3</a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="yourlink.com">Option #4</a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="yourlink.com">Option #5/a></td></tr>
</table>
</div>

If you want to add a second drop down then you can use the same code that you used above but you will have to replace all instances of the following statements in the code for the second dropdown, "#dropdown1" to "#dropdown2". "dropdown1" to "dropdown2", "dropdown1_menu" to "dropdown2_menu".

That is about all I am going to say.

thanks attroll
I figured it out, I do have basic html it's just when all the ifs are thrown in there and calling phrases I get a bit confused

It works now,

I put this where I wanted it to show up:
<!-- Setup for Member menu in navbar -->
<td id="members"
class="vbmenu_control">
<a href="$show[nojs_link]#members">Members</a>
<script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("members"); </script></td>
<!-- / Setup for Member menu in navbar -->
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="calendar.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[calendar]</a></td>

found and placed ABOVE:
<!-- / NAVBAR POPUP MENUS -->
this:<!-- Drop down for menu Member in navbar -->
<div class="vbmenu_popup"()
id="members_menu" style="display:none">
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1"
border="0">
<tr><td
class="thead">Members</td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option">
<a href="memberlist.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[members_list] </a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option">
<a href="userpage.php?do=list">Members Pages</a></td></tr>
</table>
</div>
<!-- / Drop down for menu Member in navbar -->

once i added a '()' after "<div class="vbmenu_popup"
and added a missing '$show[nojs_link]#' in the set-up it works great. :D

EDIT: I posted the original and this reply in THIS hack thread because of the note you had in there about "if you don't want an additional navbar skipt to ..... " I assumed since that's what I was doing this was the place to ask.

The Google search is not in this hack. If that is what you are referring too.

Yea other one is easier
If you think it is easier then you can use the other one. I am not going to try and convince you any different. It is the same as this hack except it is just merged into the navbar template. It does all the same functions and has some assets that this hack does not have. But when it comes to editing after it is installed then this one is easier to edit because you don't have to scroll through the navbar template code to find what you want to edit.

If you read Note#1 in this hacks directions you will see that it is exactly like the other hack. Maybe that was how this other hack came to be. They read this hack and created the other hack. I released the original hack for 3.0.0 on 16 May 2004 here http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65198. The other hack was released in Jul 2005. I don't care where they got it I was just pointing out that the hacks are the same if you follow my Note#1 instructions.

What version if vB are you running this on. I have this running on 3.5. I have not tried it with vB 3.6 beta and will not until the release of it. I have it running with all my version of vB 3.5 and have never had this problem. It must be interfering with another hack you have installed. It appears that you have installed some extra fonts in you message options. That would be something I would look into.

I don't understand what your trying to say here? If you don't want to use the navbar2 template then do not install this hack. Maybe I don't understand what you mean?

Are you trying to install this into your default navbar template? If you are referr to Note#1.

I just installed this in vB 3.6 and it works fine. I also added the command to global.php and had no problem. Maybe your adding an extra character or something. Here is what it should look like in between the two lines in global.php

// misc useful
'navbar2',

What version of Vb are you running? I tried putting the code you listing into a template for VB 3.6.1 and got a totally different template error.

Here is the error I got:

The conditional on line 11 appears to be missing its end tag (</if>). The template will not function properly unless this is fixed.

I believe if you go to your ADMINCP --> vBa CMPS --> Default Setting and scroll down to "Portal Output Global Variables" and then put "navbar2" in the box withour the " marks that is will work.

Hello,

Yes i do have navbar2 in the Portal Output Global Variables as instructed before but the links dont work . The bar does show on the main page but the links are wrong . The same thing happend to the original navbar when i first installed vbadvanced but it was corrected after i copy and pasted the files shown in the "Navbar Replacements" section to the "Header Replacements" section then it worked but not for the navbar2 .

I still cant get this to work . Ive placed the cmps_index.php outside of my forums folder and in my public_html folder . For example I have a link on the navbar2 called "calender" . Its actual path is http://www.mydomain.com/forums/calender.php but when i click on the link its takes me to http://www.mydomain.com/calender.php . I placed navbar2 in the Portal Output Global Variables .

Go into your CMPS options in AdminCP and add calendar.php to the Navbar Replacements section in Default Settings.

I also have calendar.php in my header and footer replacements in CMPS options. Outside of that, I didn't do anything special to get the calendar link to work.

Hey Guys I finally figured out what i was doing wrong . In the navbar2 template i was forgetting to put the foward slash on the beginning of the link "/" . I had "forums/calender.php" . I changed it to "/forums/calender.php" and They all now work .

Thanks

How do you create the 'links' in the new navbar?

Also, can you have a different Additional Navbar for various forums/sub-forumus?

I don't know what you mean by "how do you create the links"?

The attached navbar2.txt is a good example of the template you need to create and it has samples of how to create links.

I am sure you can also set it up to use different additional navbars for different forums. I have never looked into it and I don't have to time to do that. Maybe someone else will jump in and help you on that.

I have a question. I made an additional navbar and placed the coding in my header template. I couldn't post it like yours because my navbar is made of images from a style I imported.

How would I go about adding a dropdown menu to my additional navbar www.thepublicenemy.net. (The navbar with links I.E. Roster, TWL, New Post, etc.)

I would like to take a few of those links and categorize them into one dropdown.

There is no plugin, only template edits. If you did the edits correctly you will have the 2nd navbar.

yes, i do.

Let me verify that you did these steps?

1. You created a template in you ADMINCP called “navbar2” and inserted the code that was supplied?

2. In the plugin system you created this plugin?
Plugin System
Add new Plugin

Hook Location: global_start
Title: navbar2
Plugin PHP Code:
eval('$navbar2 = "' . fetch_template('navbar2') . '";');

3. You inserted the code "$navbar2" in your navbar template?
