View Full Version : Administrative and Maintenance Tools - IpInfo -- Extra user IP information

Zachariah
08 Jun 2006, 03:07
IpInfo is a replacement for the standard 'view users ip' option in
vBulletin. Normally when you click on the view ip button in a user's post
you'll only see his or hers ip address and host name.

With ipInfo you'll get more information. Besides the ip address and host
name you will also see what other users have posted with the same ip
address. That feature can be really good for spotting clones.

Another thing ipInfo will show you is what other ips this user has posted
with and how many times. Could be useful when you want to ban all of the
ips of a user and not just the one of that post.

Correct.
There is a problem on new installs of vb3.6 not upgrades.

i havent installed it yet...will this conflict with proxy-to-real-ip detector hack?That depends on what you mean by conflict. The two can coincide with a bit of fiddling. There is no 3.6 version of proxy-to-real-ip yet - tho you can use the 3.5 version if you understand what you are doing.

Paul M
20 Jun 2006, 00:34
Actually - since ipinfo now has a built in setting, I may be able to adapt proxy-to-real-ip to recognise that this is installed and do the fiddling automatically, esp as I haven't released the 3.6 version.

I'm upgrading from the old IPinfo and 3.5, so do I also need to re-upload the .php file or hasn't that changed? Also, I assume "Overwrite" should be checked when importing the product?

What changes have been made with the 3.6 version, was it just to fix the "new" installs bug or?

Its upgraded for vb 3.6.x.. U should overwrite the ipinfo.php file and also redo the template changes.. Also set overwrite permission to yes while uploading the product :).. Simple work..

I just upgraded to 3.6.0 from 3.5.4. and my proxy-to-real-ip detector hack doesn't work any more.
Everyone who has posted since the upgrade has the red icon and it says "proxy IP" in the message box.
Is this something I can fix, or is there a new version for 3.6.0?

This is what it says in the message box.
The Real IP Address is: **.**.***.***
c-**-**-***-***.hsd1.nj.comcast.net
The Proxy Server IP Address is: PROXYIP

Maybe I have to delete it and re-install it again?
I didn't do anything with it when I upgraded to 3.6.0, I just upgraded with it in place.

I installed it, but doesn't seem to be working right, using version 3.6 final release.

What I got on each post is like # 2 then report bad post icon, then full ip address displayed, nothing clickable that will take you to anything for more ip info. Is there a setting not setup right ??

I'm having a problem with IPINFO that I didn't realize until carefully checking.

It APPEARS to work correctly. However, there were two members I knew had used the same IP at some point. When I used IP info in posts for both members, sure enough the same IPs showed up for about 7 posts each. However, ipinfo reported "Nobody is sharing the same IP with this user". When I used the official Search IP addresses in the admin panel, I could easily detect they were sharing IPs some times.

Why would IPinfo not report this? By the way, I'm using 3.6.4 and I also have Paul's Proxy to Real IP mod installed (latest version of that and this which are supposedly compatible).

(by the way, the title says v 1.3 and the download says v1.0.3 -- probably just a typo... And within the ZIP file, ipinfo.php itself says it's version 1.2 for vb 3.5)

Thanks,
-vissa

- uploaded xml via Control Panel as instructed

to those of you who don't know where to look for the info provided by this hack - just click on the IP icon in the postbit and you will be taken to a page that displays the IP info

Changelog:
==========
1.4
- Works if "Log IP Addresses" set to "Display publicly"

The correct phrase must be:
- Works if "Log IP Addresses" set to "Display publicly" or "Display, but require administrator or moderator"

Changelog:
==========
1.4
- Added options to limit useage by usergroups.
This one doesn't work with Custom Usergroups.

To fix this one.

Change code:
// Is user allowed to view ips?
if (!can_moderate($threadinfo['forumid'], 'canviewips') OR !is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo, explode(',',$vbulletin->options['ipinfo_groups'])))
{
print_no_permission();
}

To this one:
// Is user allowed to view ips?
if ( is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo, explode(',', $vbulletin->options[ipinfo_groups])) )
{
// do nothing
}
else if ( !can_moderate($threadinfo['forumid'], 'canviewips') )
{
print_no_permission();
}
else
{
// do nothing
}

Why? Because this one is a right construction. The original one from 1.4 doesn't work with "IP Info Access".

=========================================

And in product-ipinfo.xml I advice to change.

This one (1):

<phrase 1="$postinfo[username]">$vbphrase[xs_ip_address_for_this_post]</phrase>

Must be changed to this one (1):

<phrase 1="$postinfo[username]" 2="$postinfo[userid]" 3="$postinfo[postid]">$vbphrase[xs_ip_address_for_this_post]</phrase>

This one (2):
<phrase name="xs_ip_address_for_this_post" date="1191513680" username="Zachariah" version="1.2">{1}'s IP Address for this post</phrase>

Must be changed to this one (2):
<phrase name="xs_ip_address_for_this_post" date="1191513680" username="Zachariah" version="1.2">{1}'s IP Address for post #{3}</phrase>

This will make post's user name clickable and add clicable post's number on "User IP Information" page.

=========================================

This one (3):

<datatype>free</datatype>

</setting>

Must be changed to this one (3):
<setting varname="ipinfo_groups" displayorder="260">
<datatype>free</datatype>
<defaultvalue>5,6,7</defaultvalue>
</setting>

=========================================

Must be changed to this one (4):

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/misc.php?do=producthelp&pid=ipinfo

=========================================

And if Zachariah will add pid for this mod then:

This one (5):
<versioncheckurl />

Must be changed to this one (5):
<versioncheckurl>http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/misc.php?do=productcheck&pid=ipinfo</versioncheckurl>

=========================================

I will contact Zachariah for all this one to be in official release.

1.5

The Update Has a Bug, Zachariah!! :(

When Clicking on the IP Image, a Blank Page Appears instead of the IP Information!! :(

I'm Installing Previous Version and Uploading the "ipinfo" file of the Previous Version!! Previous Version is Wirking Fine!! :p

I Hope You Can Fix That... The Updating Changes Look Good... I'm Hoping To Be Able To Use Them!! :up:

If you have your forum translated to other languages you have to update language phrase xs_ip_address_for_this_post for those languages.

Try to re-download the archive and to re-upload ipinfo.php file in ASCII mode.
I tested this one on 5 forums with different php's and mysql's versions.

There were no any technical changes in 1.5 version in comparison with 1.4 version.

If you still have the problems look in your web server's or php's log files for any error.

Paul M, yes, I agree with you that in that case we don't need that change. I think when I added that one I just got reinsured :rolleyes: (Maybe because it is "free" date field). But there is no any harm from that change :)

Thats a new one. This should not cause a problem in the profile area.
The only place this hack should run is "showthread" and "showpost".
