IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS for those upgrading to vB 3.6.10!!!

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1499395&postcount=269

EVERYONE: PLEASE BE CRYSTAL CLEAR IN WHAT ISSUES YOU ARE HAVING WITH THIS MOD IF YOU ARE USING IT IN 3.7.x! A 3.7.x version is already in the works.

------------------------------------------------------------

You can find the 3.5.x version of this hack here (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98282).

This hack will add an extra page to the User CP. This area can be used for extra profile fields that for one reason or another you would like to split from the main list.

Personally, I use this page for PC specs, but it can also be used for other specs as well (e.g. cars). I have the specs in a dropdown list under the user title in each user's post, as well as in their profile page, but that's another hack :) You'll see a link to it under Add-Ons to the right.

Here's some examples of how I use this hack (with the Add-On hack, Additional Section within Profile and Dropdown within Posts):

Wired1
13 Aug 2006, 07:34
As in everyone can see their info, but no one outside of an admin can create it? For THIS hack, on the Hook: Extra Profile Page

after

if ($_REQUEST['do'] == 'extra') you'd have to place another conditional for usergroups, to make sure they're an admin.

I need to add multiple pages for different purposes.

I plan on having different usergroups fill out different sets of data.

I don't care if everyone can see and fill them out. They won't be used unless it's for the right user group.

So, how do I create additional pages?

I just noticed something weird.
Since upgrading to vB 3.6 and 2.10, I can not see several additional profiles in the profile manager.

I know I have a profile number 10 sinc I use it elsewhere.
I don't recall if I had to name a set of new profile fields and that is why there are not appearing.

Edit: Never mind. I did not read all the instructions.

Can this be used to combine a number of profile pages into the main user's profile?

For example, my site has profiles for my classifieds script, photogalary, as well as the main forums. I would LOVE to be able to create one profile page that has some type of tab that would allow me to have a dingle profile page for my members...

I was going to code this myself when I found time but if this could do that I would be one happy webmaster!

i tried using the same method as the 3.5.4 version to make multiple pages, but the second page seems to display the same information as the first page (extra2). can you post a accurate file for those that want to use multiple pages? maybe i missed a link when i edited the .xml file.

HOW TO ADD MULTIPLE PAGES:

I've attached EXAMPLES of modified instruction.txt and product.xml of what to change. ANYWHERE you see ###, INCLUDING the product name, change to whatever number you wish (but don't repeat in another extra page). I'd recommend editing the product and instructions first, and then follow them as normal.

In otherwords, certain fields for certain user groups. This isn't a feature of vB, and as such would require additional hacking. Off the top of my head, here's the basic idea of what you'd have to do.

Create 2 pages, one for each set of hacks. Throw usergroup conditionals around the code that has the links for the edit <PAGE> in the UserCP.

I'd guess you changed $vbphrase[edit_extra_options] to $vbphrase[edit_system_specs] but didn't create the phrase, hence nothing shows up.

The-Ensemble

ok.
One page has alot of info and there will be a button to say for more info click here and it will take you to a sub page with alot more info.

Also is it possible to put input fields on a page and a submit button at the bottom that turns all the fields filled in, into one big pm?

thanks for the advice above. another problem though...
from the drop down list that displays the extra fields, I have created a field that holds a url, in this case one to a member's google calendar. I want this link to open up a new browser window, but despite lots of tinkering I can't get it to do so, here is my code in the postbit template:

<if condition="$post['field14']">
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href= "$post[field14]" target="_blank">My Calendar from Google </a></td></tr>
</if>
this only brings up the link in the same browser window, which is annoying. it doesnt seem to be able to understand the target reference, and simply ignores it. any ideas?
thanks

What is in the sub-page, more fields to enter data in, or something else? Either way, you could edit the page template and throw a link in there.

You want the stuff entered NOT to go into their profile, but just into a PM?

garyrogers:
Kewl use of the hack :) Sorry, no clue why it's doing that. Please restrict dropdown posts to the dropdown hack's thread, and vice versa :)

WARNING: allowing users to post links blatently in their profile like that screams for spammers to abuse it. What I'd do is to change it a bit, like so:

<if condition="$post['field14']">
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href= "http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=$post[field14]" target="_blank">My Calendar from Google</a></td></tr>
</if>

and change the field to be a place for their email address only. That way, you know it'll go to the google calendar page. However, this may very well still be abused by crafty coders, although you could probably do some regex parsing on the field itself somehow to prevent this. No, I have no idea how to do it, just that it may be possible :)

Possible, yes, however it's way outside the scope of this hack. I'd search the forum here for auto-creation of PMs, that would be a good start.

$vbphrase[edit_extra_options] is either not created or has no value. As for the extra fields, you need to select EXTRA OPTIONS under Display Page when creating the field, or edit an existing field to do so. Have you installed the product? it creates the phrase mentioned above.

b) http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98282 (3.5 version of this hack) - it has instructions at the end of the instruction file on how to make them searchable... HOWEVER IT WAS NEVER TESTED. I WILL NOT SUPPORT THAT CODE UNDER ANY VERSION OF THIS HACK.

Yes, you can set profile fields to be searchable when you create / edit a profile field... HOWEVER it will not work with the "extra options" profile fields. Code WILL need to be edited in the memberlist.php for it to work. The code listed in the 3.5 instructions for searchable profiles will DEFINITELY NOT work with 3.6 due to some changes in how Jelsoft changed some of their code. If you change query_read

to

query_read_slave

in the instructions, it will probably work, but again, I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS. NO GUARANTEE OF ANYTHING. If you screw up your forum, it's your fault. Test code on TEST forums, not live ones!

I'm not 100% myself, I know coding can make input fields which could cause your problem, I'd suggest just checking the code is right.

------------------

Could someone please tell me how to insert the input fields without using the $conditions thingy, I mean I want to put a certain amount of fields in a top tds, then have a new box with new title and have more fields in that one, to make things neater.
How would I do that and still have working fields?

But how? It's making NEW fields with NEW ID's. So my members have to fill in their profile again?NEW fields will of course get NEW IDs, however the old fields are still there, still marked with the extra options code. IF they're not showing in admin, you haven't done all of the steps in the instructions, specifically a MANUAL edit of a PHP file.

Could someone please tell me how to insert the input fields without using the $conditions thingy, I mean I want to put a certain amount of fields in a top tds, then have a new box with new title and have more fields in that one, to make things neater.
How would I do that and still have working fields?be more SPECIFIC. Do you mean splitting up the edit box, or splitting up the fields in the member page, or splitting up the fields in the dropdown?

I want to add my own INPUT fields on the extra page. so members can fill them in and submit them, But I want to be able to split them up and put them on certain parts of the page.

Also I'd like to split up input boxes, drop downs for the extra page.

Fantastic addon!! Is it possible to show one of extra profile page if a use have selected a specific type of prfile field.

e.g. one user is buyer and another user is seller. Now based on selection a different set of fields show up in the extra profiles field.

Thanks for sharing this one.

I have created a extra profile field page and it works fine, updating my info and all but what i would like to do is be able to change the below code to allow me to change the location of my fields?

<form action="profile.php" method="post">

<input type="hidden" name="s" value="$session[dbsessionhash]" />

<input type="hidden" name="do" value="updateextra" />

<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">

<tr>

<td class="thead">$vbphrase[extra_options]</td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td class="panelsurround" align="center">

<div class="panel">

<div style="width:$stylevar[formwidth_usercp]" align="$stylevar[left]">

$customfields[extra]

</div>

</div>

<div style="margin-top:$stylevar[cellpadding]px">

<input type="submit" class="button" value="$vbphrase[save_changes]" accesskey="s" />

<input type="reset" class="button" value="$vbphrase[reset_fields]" accesskey="r" />

</div>

</td>

</tr>

</table>

</form>

I know $customfields[extra] is what imports my fields that I have selected but what would be the code so that i can manually input my desired code into the location that i want it in? ie Like i would like field10 and field12 on the same line instead of below each other and field14 before field2. If that makes any since.

Wired, thanks for the hack again as I've re-installed it but is there a way to get rid of the redirect page when you later edit the extra infos? I really hate redirects.

Hi Wired,

I just noticed this flaw myself.:cry: In AdminCP, in Profile Field Manager I had to set Which page displays this option? back to Edit Profile otherwise they would not show up in my Members Listing.:dead:

Are others experiencing this same thing?

Thanks! Please post back if you're doing something cool with the mod :)

I run a Recumbent Bicycling Board (http://www.recumbentriders.org/) and this allows us to have a page with Riders Information (mileage to date, longest ride, etc) which is GREAT. Thanxx for the Add-on!

any way to show these specs under the users name when they post like location, age, and post count do?

You might want to try this hack for doing that http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=123619

i am not understanding this part at all

====================================

The following code adds an extra area to:

User Profile Fields -> User Profile Field Manager

When a new profile field is added, in the Display Page area, select Options: Extra Options (or whatever you placed in the extra_options vB Phrase)

// *** open admincp/profilefield.php

find

"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]"

replace with

"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]",
"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[extra_options]"

find

5 => "$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]",
add under

6 => "$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[extra_options]",

// *** save and close admincp/profilefield.php

// *** open includes/functions_user.php

find

case 5:
$customfields['other'] .= $tempcustom;

Sorry maybe this is a stupid question but I'm having problems.
I'm new to modifying vBulletin so I'm learning.
When I go to user cp to edit it, it's blank.
I've attached an image.
Sorry if I'm a noob.

Figured out more..I think something about postbit?
I'm earning vBulletin as I go along.
If it has anything to do with postbit can someone please tell me what needs to be changed?
Thanks.

Thorlax...

You need to edit the USERCP_SHELL template... I think. All you need to do is look at the coding for the menu and then, depending on how the coding is, add a link to the new page (which I believe would be /profile.php?do=extra. If you show me the coding for that template I could edit it in for you?

What's a blank page? The whole thing or just when you click on it? I created a new style on my board and used that code that you gave me and it seems to be working fine now.

The only thing that I can suggest is, if you're not going to have an arcade... copy the code I have below to get rid of the ugly gray space between the 'Edit Email & Password' link and the 'Edit Profile' link.

Hi,

I'm installing this but I don't know where admincp/profilefield.php or includes/functions_user.php is for this part:

// *** open admincp/profilefield.php

find

"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]"

replace with

"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]",
"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[extra_options]"

find

add under

6 => "$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[extra_options]",

// *** save and close admincp/profilefield.php

// *** open includes/functions_user.php

find

case 5:
$customfields['other'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
add under

case 6:
$customfields['extra'] .= $tempcustom;
break;

// *** save and close includes/functions_user.php

Hello.

Open these files onto your PC and use your file editor to search for e.g. $vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]

then follow the instructions you quoted in your thread post. When done, re-upload these 2 files (admincp/profilefield.php and includes/functions_user.php)

Alright since no one really responded to my question, I'm going to post it again. :)

How can you edit the template of this page? It doesn't really look all that great on my board, so I need to make it look better. Which template is it?

OK I'm confused.

Could someone tell me (in simple terms) #1 how to change the title of "Extra Edit Options" to my own title and #2 how to add my own fields. I know it's user error but I would love to implement this and I'm not grasping the vbphrase concept. I already have 3 frustrating hours into this and no luck.:confused:

Thanks

Great mod by the way just what my site needs

Sorry to be a pain but I have it all installed and I'm at a standstill. "Edit Extra Options" shows up and when I click on it it goes to an "Extra Options" page which has "save changes" and "reset fields" buttons but as far as entering my own fields I'm lost. Please can you explain a little bit more specifically on how to do this ?

Dman...

To add your own profile fields to the new page, you need to EDIT the fields you want there (or create a new one) and at the bottom of that page, it has a section called "Display Page". You need to change the drop down menu to say this: "Options: Extra Options". The address to the page you created is "/profile.php?do=extra". You can easily create a link to this page in the User CP by editing the usercp_shell template.

...Now... how do I edit the template???

I see the light now:banana:

I'll have to take this up in the morning but thanks for the help and don't be surprised if I do ask that proverbial question:

I know how to edit templates but I don't know if I specifically know how to do this edit,tomorrow will tell..:confused:

*Argh* ;-)

Yesterday we started the migration from 3.5.4 to current 3.6.4. I also updateded this Mod and I still have a problem which makes me crazy :confused:

In UserCP the link to the extra fields page is available, and a user is able to edit/save all the definied fields.

But I cannot find a way how to show the content of the fields inside the MEMBERINFO.

Using 3.5.4, we had a reference like

<td>$customfields2</td>

inside the template

Using this now in 3.6.4 shows absolutly nothing.

So I changed it to

<td>$customfields[extra]</td>

but all what's showing is a single "<"

It's a long time ago when we installed this mod into 3.5.4, so I cannot remember what we did that time.....

Maybe somebody is able to help me to show the content of those fields inside the member's profile (readable for everybody who has permissions to access the profile....)

Thanks in advance,

Frank

I just noticed this flaw myself.:cry: In AdminCP, in Profile Field Manager I had to set Which page displays this option? back to Edit Profile otherwise they would not show up in my Members Listing.:dead:

Are others experiencing this same thing?

Any ideas on what's happened to Wired1? Says he's not been online since back in NOV06.

The bug I referred to above is serious enough that if I set the page that displays this option to "Extra Edit Options" then NONE of my Custom Profile Fields will show up in the Member List. By none, I'm not just referring to the ones used in this MOD, but I mean it prevents ALL Custom Data Fields from showing up in the members listing.

As such, I had to revert back to using the Edit Profile page in order to keep my members listing working correctly. However doing so means that one can no longer access the Custom Data Fields for this MOD. Neither to edit, or even see them.:disappointed:

I've gotten this mod working without a hitch. Now I just need to tailor the wording.

In the options window, it lists this as 'Edit Extra Options' and the title of the window as 'Extra Options'.

I'd like to change this to 'Edit CarPC Specs' and 'CarPC Specs'.

Based on the screen shots Wired1 posted, it's $vbphrase[edit_extra_options] and $vbphrase[extra_options]...however...I don't know what do to beyond that. I've changed the first to: $vbphrase[edit_carpc_specs] and $vbphrase[CarPC_Specs] only to find that the page dissapears when I refresh. So I gather that's not right...so where do I find where [edit_extra_options] and [extra_options] are determined?

I'm back. I'm responding to ones that I don't think have gotten answered yet, although the bast majority of these have already been answered in various forms in this thread, as well as the previous thread.

I've gotten this mod working without a hitch. Now I just need to tailor the wording.

So I gather that's not right...so where do I find where [edit_extra_options] and [extra_options] are determined?Those are exactly what they state they are... VBPHRASES.

ADMINCP -> Languages & Phrases -> Search in Phrases

look for "extra_options". Edit how you like. In order to change the phrase variables to "$vbphrase[CarPC_Specs]", you first have to CREATE them.

What am I doing wrong? I installed this and I see the "Edit Extra Options" in my User CP, but I can't see the extra profile fields when VIEWING my profile. Can anyone help me out on this?

I also have the "Friends and Buddies (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?p=873177)" modification installed. Could this be the reason my extra profile fields aren't viewable, except for when editing the profile?No. Read the first post again, CAREFULLY. There is an ADDON that does this.

I just checked my member list and see that I'm experiencing the same thing you experienced. I'm removing this mod. It's a great concept, but it's definitely not working for me.Read the 3.5.x hack instructions. There's BETA search code in there (which is really just vB's search code w/ one minor change). Search for the new code in 3.6.x (they changed like 1 minor thing in it IIRC), and it should work fine. A proper way to do this would involve a heavy rewrite, which I simply don't have the time for (hence why I haven't been around much).

I wish to save timestamp along with userfield. I want to display date when these userfield were edited. How will I achieve this?That's outside the scope of this hack.

Is there anyway to do this without the core file edit? I am sure there must be.uummmm..... NO. There are hacks similar to it, that don't require core hacks, but they require SQL edits, which is not something this hack needs. Neither are perfect, choose your poison.

OH, this sounds like what I need to do!? But for someone who's not a coder, could you say that one-more-time...a little slower? :confused:

Are you saying to find/copy the BETA code out of the 3.5.x version into the 3.6.x version -or- to locate the 'similar code' in the 3.6.x version and then tidy it up somehow to get it to work properly? If the latter, the 'somehow' part would stump me. :(

Has anyone installed this MOD on vB3.6x that could copy/paste their modified memberlist.php file into a CODE box perhaps?

I LOVE the idea of this MOD, but at present it's broken on my system. :o

Ok I installed this hack but like others I am having problems. I can go to my User CP and click on (Computer Specs) and it will bring me to the extra page. From there the only thing that is displayed is 'Save Changes' and 'Reset Fields'. Where do I go to add fields?

Can anyone tell me if this mod added any tables to the DB and if so, what are the names of those tables?

Perhaps I should ask for some assistance on this.

I have added Zoints to our web site.

One of the blocks that's avaliable out there will take the additional fields that are added to the normal profile (for lack of a better term) and port them over to your Zoints profile page.

It calls on table "cprofilefield" for this information.

I'm gathering that this mod uses the same table?

I'm trying to figure out how to tell this block to look at the fields for this mod rather than the fields that are under the normal profile area. I'm sure it's super easy (or maybe I'm just that ignorant), but I can't figure it out.

I've attached the code below.

# vBulletin Custom Profile Fields
# 1.0
# Soup (soup@zoints.com)
# http://dev.zoints.com/
#
# This block lets you display your custom profile fields
# from the old vBulletin profile
class user_vbulletin_custom_profile_fields extends z_module
{
function contents()
{
$vbulletin = $this->_zoints->external->vbulletin;
$languageid = intval($vbulletin->userinfo['languageid']);

# get custom phrases used in this block
$vbphrase = array();
$phrases = $vbulletin->db->query_read("
SELECT * FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "phrase
WHERE fieldname = 'cprofilefield'
AND (languageid = $languageid OR languageid = -1)
ORDER BY languageid DESC
");
while ($phrase = $vbulletin->db->fetch_array($phrases))
{
$vbphrase[$phrase['varname']] = $phrase['text'];
}
unset($phrase);
$vbulletin->db->free_result($phrases);

# get data from usertextfield for this user
$extended_info = $vbulletin->db->query_first("
SELECT * FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "userfield
WHERE userid = " . $this->zuser . "
");

$profilefields = $vbulletin->db->query_read("
SELECT profilefieldid, required, type, data, def, height
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "profilefield
WHERE form = 0
AND hidden = 0
ORDER BY displayorder
");

$search = array(
'#(\r\n|\n|\r)#',
'#(<br />){3,}#', // Replace 3 or more <br /> with two <br />
);
$replace = array(
'<br />',
'<br /><br />',
);

$customfields = '';
while ($profilefield = $vbulletin->db->fetch_array($profilefields))
{
$profilefieldname = "field$profilefield[profilefieldid]";
$profilefield['title'] = $vbphrase[$profilefieldname . '_title'];

if ($profilefield['type'] == 'checkbox' OR $profilefield['type'] == 'select_multiple')
{
$data = unserialize($profilefield['data']);
foreach ($data AS $key => $val)
{
if ($extended_info["$profilefieldname"] & pow(2, $key))
{
$profilefield['value'] .= iif($profilefield['value'], ', ') . $val;
}
}
}
else if ($profilefield['type'] == 'textarea')
{
$profilefield['value'] = preg_replace($search, $replace, trim($extended_info["$profilefieldname"]));
}
else
{
$profilefield['value'] = $extended_info["$profilefieldname"];
}

if ($profilefield['value'] != '')
{
$customfields .= '<div class="' . $this->style['phead'] . '">' . $profilefield['title'] . '</div>';
$customfields .= '<div class="' . $this->style['pmain1'] . '">' . $profilefield['value'] . '</div>';
}

}
$vbulletin->db->free_result($profilefields);

return $customfields;
}
}

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd like to make use of this mod, but I admit ...the instructions have me absolutely lost with how to create different pages for different profiles. I simply don't understand the editing of vbphrases, variables, and other such.

It's a gaming site. I need to be able to create "Edit X Profile" pages in the UserCP for each game. For example, users need to be able to create a profile for EVE, VG, and WoW. Please help me accomplish that. I need very specific instructions.

I downloaded the instructions you posted in page 2 of this thread (page.zip) and that just made me more confused. I don't get it. What do I need to edit, where, and how to create these extra pages? Sorry I'm not so VB savvy, I try, but my experiments aren't producing any results. The whole "change the ### to a number" was ....lost on me.

Any help is appreciated, and thank you for your patience.

A proper way to do this would involve a heavy rewrite, which I simply don't have the time for (hence why I haven't been around much).

To clarify, I just tried it... and found what worked for me. This is with this version of the hack, and vBulletin 3.6.5. And now the "extra" fields I choose are showing up in Members List and are searchable too.

All it took was changing two instances of form = 0 to form = 0 OR 6

In memberlist.php:

FIND:

$profilefields = $db->query_read_slave("
SELECT *
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "profilefield
WHERE searchable = 1
WHERE form = 0 "

REPLACE WITH:

$profilefields = $db->query_read_slave("
SELECT *
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "profilefield
WHERE searchable = 1
WHERE form = 0 OR 6 "

FIND:

// get extra profile fields
$profilefields = $db->query_read_slave("
SELECT *
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "profilefield
WHERE searchable = 1
AND form = 0

REPLACE WITH:

// get extra profile fields
$profilefields = $db->query_read_slave("
SELECT *
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "profilefield
WHERE searchable = 1
AND form = 0 OR 6

The only downside is that right now I have three "regular" User Profile fields that I had designated as "not searchable" -- and now, as result of this edit, they appear in the "Members List: Advanced Search." These particular fields don't work, mind you (searching in those fields just ends up showing the entire member list.) Which is fine by me... I didn't want them to be searchable in the first place. But the fact that the fields show up in the Advanced Search might be a bit confusing, that's all.

This is a compromise I am willing to make, because I wanted to have many of the "Extra" Profile Fields I created with this hack to show up in my Member List, and be Searchable... and now they are.

Thanks!

You've almost certainly either had this answered by PM or gone off and gotten bored in waiting but while I was searching for the answer to how to get the additional fields on the memberlist search I saw your problem...

... and it's an easy fix.

In your SQL code, it reads:

SELECT *
FROM profilefield
WHERE searchable = 1
WHERE form = 0 OR 6
ORDER BY displayorder;

See the second "WHERE form = 0 OR 6"? That's a cut and paste error. That should read "AND form = 0 OR 6".

Okay now VB.org is updated to 3.6.8. Now since they see this upgrade as stable does this mod work with the upgrade or is this going to be tested with the upgrade at any point soon? I still can't get it to work.

Two weeks have passed and no one has replied regarding compatibility with 3.6.8...oh well...better days..."clicks uninstalled".

UPDATE:

Okay...I have this working...

Now I have to get the Additional Section Within Profile and Dropdown menu working...

If these mods are going to be supported...it'd be nice to have someone support them instead of racking our brains trying to get them to work...

Or just a little note at the beginning of the mod which versions of vBulletin the mod is compatible with...instead of having to search every post to see if someone has already inquired as to its compatibility with other vBulletin versions. Instead we get answers like..."I see no reason why it shouldn't work with version 3.6.X." Sure you don't...but did you test it?

Like I said, it should work with 3.6.8, as they didn't do any major upgrades.

And YES, it was tested, just forgot to update the version # at the top.

Add-ons like this which require manual edits, require manual edits each time there's an upgrade.

I don't understand what this sentence means (due to broken english and typos):

Do you mean you would like to use this plugin for Photography items, such as Camera Model, Lens Model, etc?

If this is what you mean, this is definitely possible, as the plugin is not dependant on the profile field descriptions. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

All that you have to do to get this to work is to uninstall, then reinstall. And then re-upload the PHP files in the download. Everytime that I upgrade I have to do this.

Oh my bad... I know what I did. When I first downloaded the instructions, I downloaded the two PHP files from my vbulletin files and saved them in the folder just in case. I now found out how to add additional fields which are now showing within a users control panel which they can edit as needed but........

The actual details are NOT showing up within a users profile?

Just like the http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/member.php?u=15 which is using this hack to show system specs, I dont see this section within a users profile page although the user has added details.

Any ideas why its not showing?

Do I have to edit another template for it to show up?

However, it doesn't show. I have just read up about going somewhere else to then install something and change a load of templates.

What I don't understand is what is the point of this particular addition if nobody will see anything as a result, until you download and change something else?????

Or am I doing something wrong so the profile will show the extra data?

thanks in advance....

<td class="$navclass[extra]" style="white-space:nowrap"><a class="smallfont" href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=extra">$vbphrase[edit_extra_options]</a></td>
</tr>

so that it will read:

<td class="$navclass[extra]" style="white-space:nowrap"><a class="smallfont" href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=extra">$vbphrase[edit_System_Spec]</a></td>
</tr>

but that didn't seem to do it. Could you assist pls.

That won't do it at all, unless you have a vbphrase with that new name. You need to go into the AdminCP options, search for the var, and edit the phrase. The vBulletin manual on their website has the instructions on how to do that.

Hello Wired1,

I am upgrading my board from 3.6.4 to 3.6.8 and I see that in functions_user.php is hook at the place you edit the file:

{
switch ($profilefield['form'])
{
case 1:
$customfields['login'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
case 2:
$customfields['messaging'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
case 3:
$customfields['threadview'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
case 4:
$customfields['datetime'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
case 5:
$customfields['other'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
default:
($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('profile_fetch_profilefields_loc')) ? eval($hook) : false;
}
}
}

Is it possible to take advantage of this hook and get rid of manual file edits with each upgrade?

I'm not sure if this is related or not but I just updated to 3.6.8.PL2 and when trying to access member.php I ran into an error.

The error was rather generic so it led me to do further research. Basically unexpected end to the code on the last line of code in member.php (line 848).

When I compared the 3.6.8 version of member.php to the new version (3.6.8.pl2) I found that there was an addition on lines 573-574 as follows. Removing the added code (the vbulletin code, not the modification code) let's it run normally.

Any ideas?

if ($execute['profilefields'])

This was right before the following code which has been added:

// *********************

I don't know, I don't know where to edit anything :P.
The instructions do state what files to edit, as well as what code to replace, or where in the code to edit.

I'm not sure if this is related or not but I just updated to 3.6.8.PL2 and when trying to access member.php I ran into an error.

Just got the notice about PL2. Time to work on a new version! :)

It probably only needs a bracket moved or added based upon that snipped you posted.

Reading the news post about it here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1442161), only 3 pages were changed, which I don't recall being edited within the instructions.

Come to think of it, I think that was a change in PL1? May want to read through the current instructions here, but I don't recall editing that part of the instructions. Either way, I'll look at it tomorrow.

Sorry, I guess I have mods that might be conflicting with this since Ive edited and edited and re edited twice so there must be something wrong...

EDIT: I got it to work by actually typing the url because the table row wont appear in USERCP_SHELL. And when I edit one of the extra options, it doesn't show in member.php. I do have interactive profiles installed as well as Princeton's USERCP_SHELL mod.

EDIT2: Found the right template for those using Princetons mod. Its called GTPM_USERCP_SHELL. You will need to place the link in there.

And as for us using advanced profile fields...that might be a tough fix, what do you think? These fields wont show in there...

I've attached EXAMPLES of modified instruction.txt and product.xml of what to change. ANYWHERE you see ###, INCLUDING the product name, change to whatever number you wish (but don't repeat in another extra page). I'd recommend editing the product and instructions first, and then follow them as normal.

This hack has nothing in common with that one, and that hack is for 3.0.x, so it may not even be compatible with 3.6.x.

This broke within my vb installation, and I wasn't able to remove it afterwards. You need to change the id of the mod to something different than ###

The only downside is that right now I have three "regular" User Profile fields that I had designated as "not searchable" -- and now, as result of this edit, they appear in the "Members List: Advanced Search."

Got this narrowed down a bit - if you create a second db query for "form = 6" instead of tacking it on after form = 0, you can get only the ones you've designated as searchable. The problem I'm running into now is that hidden fields aren't showing up for people who can see hidden fields.

You followed this to the letter, correct? If so, this should have done it. If not, please PM me the code around these edits. I'd guess that when you edited functions_user.php, it wasn't saved, or uploaded perhaps?

The following code adds an extra area to:

User Profile Fields -> User Profile Field Manager

When a new profile field is added, in the Display Page area, select Options: Extra Options (or whatever you placed in the extra_options vB Phrase)

// *** open admincp/profilefield.php

find

"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]"

replace with

"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]",
"$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[extra_options]"

find

5 => "$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[other]",
add under

6 => "$vbphrase[options]: $vbphrase[extra_options]",

// *** save and close admincp/profilefield.php

// *** open includes/functions_user.php

find

case 5:
$customfields['other'] .= $tempcustom;
break;
add under

case 6:
$customfields['extra'] .= $tempcustom;
break;

// *** save and close includes/functions_user.php

Just thought I should mention this, the link does not appear in the UserCP if you have this addon installed: GTUserCP - Enhanced USERCP Interface

I disabled the above addon and this finally appeared in the UserCP.

Just thought I should mention this, the link does not appear in the UserCP if you have this addon installed: GTUserCP - Enhanced USERCP InterfaceMakes sense considering that the GTUserCP mod replaces the USERCP_SHELL.

Took a quick look at it, and I THINK (NOTE: UNTESTED, TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK, preferably on a test bed first) you can make 2 quick edits to add the Extra Options link.

In GTPM_USERCP_SHELL Find:

<tr>
<td class="$navclass[options]" nowrap="nowrap"><a class="smallfont" href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=editoptions">$vbphrase[edit_options]</a></td>
</tr>

after it paste:

<tr>
<td class="$navclass[extra]" nowrap="nowrap"><a class="smallfont" href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=extra">$vbphrase[edit_extra_options]</a></td>
</tr>

and in gtpm_usercp_navbit Find:

<tr><td class="vbmenu_option" align="$stylevar[left]"><a href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=editoptions">$vbphrase[edit_options]</a></td></tr>

after it paste:

<tr><td class="vbmenu_option" align="$stylevar[left]"><a href="profile.php?$session[sessionurl]do=extra">$vbphrase[edit_extra_options]</a></td></tr>

Again, note: UNTESTED! Not my fault if you run it on a live server and blow it up!

Hi Wired1,

Any chance you can release a 3.7 one anytime soon, since it's in RC stage? It would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Jason :)

Talk about Nerve racking..:(

I've went over my edits to my .php files. There are all correct. Template Edits are correct..

I see the Edit Options in my Edit profile. But, I can't see to add any options to edit. Under USER PROFILE FIELD MANAGER:

I don't see the "Extra Options" Line anywhere on there...

I know this has been asked alot... Any Ideas?
