Hi! I absolutely love this style. It looks so smooth and professional, and really helped me with a major relaunch I did for my site.

I have a question. I see you released a new update. I have made some modifications to this style on my board. If I install the update, will I lose any of the modifications I have made to it? If so, is there an alternate way to fix what the update fixes without installing the update? Thanks!

This is a very nice theme. But after I installed it - it told me this: There are currently 14 customized template(s) that need to be updated or reverted. Some sections of vBulletin may not function if you do not do this!

The 14 files are calendar, edit post, forum display, member info, moderation posts, modify profile pic, modify signature, new thread, pm_messagelist, postbit legacy, search forums, showthread, subscribe, & user infraction.

I noticed it after installing this them...I uninstalled & it went away. I reinstalled & it came back. So it must be your theme. Why & what can I do because this is a VERY sweet theme & I'd really like to keep it.

If all these pages are working does it matter if I get an error message or not? Can't I just live with it? Thanks for the theme & any help. :=)

Since I just did this...I can tell you that you must add the english buttons to both buttons & misc. And let it overwrite what you have there. ;)

I have yet another problem however. I have the arcade mod installed & can't edit the navbar file to add the link (plus how would I add the button). The stuff it's telling me to look for in the navbar file (<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="calendar.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[calendar]</a></td>) isn't there. Yet I can see a calendar link??? :-/

Thank you. :=)

I've checked the button folder uploaded on the server.
For example:
the button search near the header is in french (recherche). The button bouton_recherche.gif in the button folder is in english version (search).

How is It possible? I've tried to reinstall the style paying attention to overwrite the original button's folder with the button's english version folder.

Nothing has changed.

in admincp, go to styles & templates, download/upload styles.

under Import Style XML File, browse Chestnut-style_vB3.6.2.xml for whichever language you want, french or english...press import

start up your ftp program and upload the images folder to your forum root, replace the french buttons with the english ones if you feel like it...

Hi I've downloaded and installed this style, really wonderful, fits 100% with what we want to do.

The only problem is that the image verification does'nt work when you use this style, it keeps returning the error that the string you typed in does'nt match, when you revert to the default style then it does work so I know it's not the board but style related.

How do I find this problem?

Hi

You can test here, http://www.4x4forum.co.za/forum, try and register (it is still a test board I am hoping to go live tonight when I will re-import the old SMF board.)

The refresh button does'nt give a new image, but each time you try you get a new image. If I switch back to the default style then it works though, so there must be something in the style itself (maybe it's not posting the value of the input box?)

Installation Instructions:

Step 2: Login to the vBulletin admin control panel, usually at /admincp, and under "Styles & Templates" select "Download / Upload Styles"

Hi kalleball,
I am not good at php, I added simple links with the default style before but this looks pretty hard to me,
I couldnt even find the other links in navbar template,
İn header template I found them but I can only change an existing link to another, for example I changed FAQ to downloads..
But I have to add new links, I am ok with psd's but I couldn find how to put them in the code, esspecialy "over" ones..

kalleball
26 Oct 2006, 15:28
say you want to add a forum button like i did...find

<!-- Inscription -->

in the header template...

copy paste and change the stuff you need to change such as...

<!-- Forum -->
<td width="93">
<table width="93" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td style="background:#FFFFFF url($stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_forum.gif);"><a href="$vboptions[bburl]/" rel="nofollow"
onmouseover="JSFX.fadeIn('forum')"
onmouseout="JSFX.fadeOut('forum')"><img
src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_forum.gif" name="forum" width="93" height="40" border="0" class="imgFader" id="forum" alt="" /></a></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
<!-- /Forum -->

that'll get the image in the navbar...to make the rollover work you'll have to go to headinclude...find

JSFX.Rollover("inscription", "$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_inscription_over.gif");

copy paste...like

JSFX.Rollover("forum","$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_forum_over.gif");

think that's it...

sorry for the images but there is no easy way of telling this..

As you can see in the first image, it is normal and I love it:) Look at the arrows..

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/8156/untitled3kn8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

When I click any link in the forum it moves to right, look at the arrows there is no space there. This happens for a second only but very annoying.. everytihng moves..

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/6929/untitled4tr6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

There are Zoints SEO, Zoints Tags, and some little hack on the forum. I add one extra button to navbar. I dont remember if it was still moving before adding the extra button. Main Table Width is %100

What an amazing skin. I found it straightforward to customize. I chose this because we're an academic site, and it was difficult to find something that I could adapt to our aesthetic style. Many layouts try to reach out and grab the attention of your skull. What we were after was a template that allowed the look of our organization to transcend that of the interface. We wanted a minimalist approach. I also need this to be simple, because like many of you I only have to decorate vB when all older templates are no longer compatable with the latest release of software, making each upgrade a learning curve.

Our look had already been established. Under our previous version (2.3 -- yeah, I know, we didn't upgrade for a very long time) I had limited success.

Now with v.3.6.2, a lot can be done directly in the AdminCP instead of me hacking the files directly.

This is what I've done with it, and it only took me a few days.

My main site is http://swordforum.com/ -- so the challenge was to customize Chestnut to look like my main site.

Here are the results:

http://forums.swordforum.com/

The only significant code changing was with the background image aligntment and positioning -- that was done in the CSS file. I kept the "left.gif" and "right.gif" as transparent GIFs with a 1 px vertical line to give the layout an outline. Keeping them also created some fake left- and right-padding which ended up looking nice.

I like the mouse-over fades, so I customized it, so different antique swords appear. I also customized the navbits to use swords instead of folders.

So here is a bow of respect to the Chestnut author! Merci beaucoup, Allan-san!

P.S. One bug I found was that if you have a forum category that serves as its own lone forum, the layout is stretched extremely wide. To solve this, I created a forum category and move that forum as a child of that category. Once I did this, the forum listing was the same width as the other boxes.

^^ make it 900 that might help. I had the same problem. Percentages won't help in this case, u'll need to use pixel measurements. If 900 is not right then make necessary adjustments accordingly like 905, 890, 910 etc, whichever works out for u.

Hope that helps :)

no idea...but i'd guess it's this stuff doing it...

<script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("navbar_search", true); </script>

name of that particular menu is navbar_search...which you find in vbulletin_menu.js...in /clientscript/...at the top of that script there's some tutorial about making new ones...i'm sure you can figure it out...

My style isn't quite ready for prime time yet. Still working on it, but I used most of the 'left' column hack:

"The Mobile Factor" :) no incorrect spelling there lol.

Anybody else having a problem with the ibProArcade on this skin? those who have that mod check out "Your Favourites" section of your arcade, mine comes out incorrect :(. I dunno if its a skinning issue or Arcade.

Edit: Oh Greg, I think you were talking about the C and R in Factor :p lol that's a C for sure, it looks like a r I know but it's a C for sure.

Mine turned out like this (3.6.2)

55856

Initially I thought it could be vBSEO or other plugins I've installed that was causing the problems. But after I disable plugin globally via config.php, it became evident that it wasn't the case. I chose "Create New Style" with "No Parent Style" when importing, so it wasn't carrying anything over from my modified base vBulletin style.

I'm not sure what is the cause, but looking at the HTML, and passing it through validator, it seems to be complaining about bad placement of a few HTML elements. Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause?

I need a little help with the "Quick Links" menu bar for this style. Can someone explain to me in detail how I can add additional menus to the Quick Links drop down bar (which templates to goto and the commands to add, etc.). I'm a new to this type of style, but, I follow instructions very well :)

Thanks
For Add a New Menu:

In header template, find:
<!-- /Membres -->

And add under: (example)
<!-- New Menu -->
<td width="93">
<table width="93" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td style="background:#FFFFFF url($stylevar/bouton_new_menu.gif);"><a href="$vboptions[bburl]/your_url.php$session[sessionurl_q]" rel="nofollow"
onmouseover="JSFX.fadeIn('new_menu')"
onmouseout="JSFX.fadeOut('new_menu')"><img
src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_new_menu.gif" name="new_menu" width="93" height="40" border="0" class="imgFader" id="new_menu" alt="" /></a></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
<!-- /New Menu -->
[I]PS: Change the texte with this color

In headinclude template, find:
JSFX.Rollover("deconnexion", "$stylevar/bouton_deconnexion_over.gif");

Under, add under: (example)
JSFX.Rollover("new_menu","$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_new_menu_over.gif");
[I]PS: Change the texte with this color

Upload the news images (in this example bouton_new_menu_over.gif and bouton_new_menu.gif), to: "/images/chestnut/misc/"Enjoy ;)

I try to do this:

Okay, let me see if I can explain it better:

Add a New Plugin using Hook Location "global_start".
$random_number = rand(1, 5);

$random_banner[1] = '<a href="http://www.link1.com/"><img src="path/to/banner1.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>';
$random_banner[2] = '<a href="http://www.link2.com/"><img src="path/to/banner2.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>';
$random_banner[3] = '<a href="http://www.link3.com/"><img src="path/to/banner3.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>';
$random_banner[4] = '<a href="http://www.link4.com/"><img src="path/to/banner4.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>';
$random_banner[5] = '<a href="http://www.link5.com/"><img src="path/to/banner5.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>';

Remember to change all the Image Paths to the location of the banners you want to display.

Then edit whatever template you'd like to display the random banner in and stick this code wherever you'd like it to show:
$random_banner[$random_number]

Except when I create the plug-in and insert $random_banner into one of the templates, all it displays is the word "Array" and not the rotating banners.

Little help please.

what he means is:
go to your forum manager, then manage forums, then edit the setting for each of your forum setting - then under the part that says "act as a forum" select "no" and it will act as a category.

however, this hides the 'most recent' post section on the forum display page

If you set a forum as category, then you must add a regular forum to that category, otherwise it will show not good.

Hi Sres,

I have seen this before when I used this style. It has something to do with your first forum and categories. Check it out and see if you forgot to set a forum to Category. Maybe its the "The Mended Drum" forum or the one that comes after it.

Sres
17 Jan 2007, 11:44
It's because there is no category Adonfun, however that is a valid forum layout and I'd be grateful if someone can tell me what I need to edit (it's confusing in the styles section), as all the other themes for the site handle it correctly.

Sres
17 Jan 2007, 11:46
Actually I just noticed what is missing, it's the Forum Last Post Threads Posts header section, I'll compare it against my other themes to see if I can rectify it.

adonfun
17 Jan 2007, 11:47
Sres, try to change it into a category just to see what happens.

Some other people in this thread had the same issue and selecting a forum as category solved their problem. If this doesn't solve the issue on your board then someone else might have the answer for you.

Sres
17 Jan 2007, 12:09
I've solved it by adding the forum last post thread header, however there is now a fault at the bottom (only visible to admins) I can't find where the style gets $forumbits from, where the problem lies.

Sres
17 Jan 2007, 12:39
Ok, sorted it to my liking now, it's not perfect, but it allows you to have forums without categories now.

Totally loving the style!! thx!

Hope will also make a fluid version soon indeed, think I will like it also, merci!!

It's easy to make your own fluid version.

Open up the xml file of you choice (Chestnut-style_vB3.6.4.xml)

Search for this line in the XML file
<template name="outertablewidth" templatetype="stylevar" date="1156846388" username="Allan" version=""><![CDATA[950]]></template>

Replace with this line

<template name="outertablewidth" templatetype="stylevar" date="1156846388" username="Allan" version=""><![CDATA[100%]]></template>

All I've done is change the width (which was set to 950 to 100%. Then just upload the XML in the standard way and name it Chestnut Fluid.

**Installed** my forumites love this theme!

Allan
18 Jan 2007, 10:08
More easy, AdminCP => Style & template => and choice chestnut, in stylevar, check the first value, on top, and change to 100% ^^

Sres
18 Jan 2007, 10:13
Didn't know that thanks :)

I've noticed that the none fluid site gets squashed if you add it too vbadvanced, it looks a shambles in the UserCP / Avatar section, I didn't know how to change the number of avatars it shows in the Uploaded Avatar section, if it showed 4 instead of 5 it would be great.

I alsoo noticed that you've hard coded the width in a number of areas like showthreads etc, this doesn't help with vbadvanced as it pushes it all out on the right and if an image is too large for the page it also cuts it.

I'm having a really weird issue with the menu bar.

For someone not logged in the images don't align like they should. But the "Register" button appears as it should, the rest of the buttons to the right do not.

If you're logged in it all appears as it should.

If not, well, you can see the image I've attached.

Dang, that was a stupid, stupid, issue.

Just the spacing of my code, it wasn't parsing it correctly so it wouldn't work.

So, no need to worry. Sorry about that. I'll be clicking "installed" soon as I roll it out to my production forum from my testing site here shortly. :)

How do I add these buttons so that one shows up at the portal and the other shows up at the forums?

I actually used the psd files that came with it and created a button that said reply to replace the quote button myself. named it the same as the quote button (which I think is actually reply, lol) and switched it out. It only took a couple of seconds.

If anyone has vbadvanced with this style could you please help me with the buttons (on the navbar)? I am having humongo difficulties figuring it out myself.

Nevermind, we got our buttons on.

Now we have another issue. lol When you rollover the UserCP button the rollover image shows up over the home button instead of where it belongs...

norollover shows the buttons where they are. the other (although printscreen doesn't capture the mouse) is what happens when I put my mouse over the UserCP button.

I get all excited when there is a reply hoping it will help solve my weird UserCP roll over problem.

Michael_Jim, something got reverted. You can either reinstall the skin without reverting the 15 lovely templates, or you can go into main css.

Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Main CSS (from the drop down beside chestnut)

Go to "Category Strips" and copy the path that's in the () (I changed mine so I can't remember the default)

Keep scrolling down to "Popup Menu Controls" and replace the path that's in there.

It should look like: #869BBF url() repeat-x top left

with the same path as category strips in the ()

The problem i am having is that when you click the parent root of a forum the template get's all messed and adds another row a blank forum, as you can see in the first pic.

2nd pic, it gets totally deranged and nasty looking..

That part of the forum is invisible and used as a link for the navbar.

Allan, I was wondering whether or not this style has thread ratings viewable on the forum indexes or not. I have thread rating enabled on my forums, but below the Rating area in the forum, the only icons I ever see are those denoting a stickied thread.

This makes me think that there is some code missing to make thread ratings display in the forum index. Any help?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just had the minimum amount of votes to show thread rating set too high. Sorry. :)

Allan, I have a question for you. I installed vbadvanced on my forum and I am using your style. on the portal page, if I remove the navbar, the search and quick link buttons don't work. They both have a drop down menu and it seems to do a problem. I tried it with other styles I have on my forum as well and they don't do that. Any idea?

REALLY great style BTW :)

Excellent skin! One of the very best I have seen.

I'm brand new to vbulletin but this is the first skin I have installed!! (and I meant installed!)

One question Allan,

In the legacy postbit section, say, if I want to create a image (like stripes) to fill up the entire left side, how do I go about doing that? or how do I change the color of the left side, so it will be different? (current my alternative 1 and 2 is the same color..)

Hi Allan,

this Style is fantastic. 3 days ago I started working with vBulletin and I will change my running Board soon to it.
I think I will use your style as standard there.
It's a german Board so i have to translate all the Buttons into german.
Of course it's no problem to do this with your psds but maybe you have the complete set as psd so I just have to change the buttons, press "save" and they will be automatically saved into the correct names?
If not it's absolutely no problem, I will do this anyway ;)

Am I allowed to share the germen buttons with other Users in this Thread and maybe also to set a Link in a german Supportboard? I think I will not be the only one this would be useful for.

Regards

André

As it turns out I am now having some trouble. Perhaps someone will assist:

Ok, when I posted my kudos and thanks, I only had one ROOT forum folder, That is to say:

|-------------------WIDTH-------------------|
PARENT 1
-- CHILD 1
-- CHILD 2

Now the error occurs when I add a new PARENT forum...

|-------------------WIDTH-------------------|

PARENT 1
-- CHILD 1
-- CHILD 2

|--------------------------------------WIDTH--------------------------------------|
PARENT 2
-- CHILD 3
-- CHILD 4

When PARENT 2 is added, the TABLE WIDTH goes all hectic, and seems to be fluid rather than fixed. This looks horrible.

What would cause an inconsistency such as this? Deleting the PARENT 2 structure restores the shape and dimensions of the DEFAULT Chestnut settings.

13 Mar 2007, 20:31
ok guys I need help ASAP.

I added a new button for a link to the chatroom I want to add. Here is the code I added:

<!-- Chat -->
<td width="80">
<table width="80" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td style="background:#FFFFFF url($stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_chat.gif);">
<a href="$vboptions[bburl]/" rel="nofollow"
onmouseover="JSFX.fadeIn('chat')"
onmouseout="JSFX.fadeOut('chat')"><img
src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/bouton_chat.gif" name="chat" width="80" height="40" border="0" class="imgFader" id="chat" alt="" /></a></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
<!-- /Chat -->

Now, here are the chat company's instructions. I don't understand how to do this since I am on a custom style.

Step 8.1.

Scroll (or use your browser's Find feature) to find the following code:

<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="calendar.php?$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[calendar]</a></td>

Just below the above code, add the following:

<!-- START NEW PARACHAT CODE -->
<td id="chat" class="vbmenu_control">
<a href="$show[nojs_link]#usercptools">$vbphrase[parachat_link]</a> <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("chat"); </script></td>
<!-- STOP NEW PARACHAT CODE -->

Step 8.2.

Scroll (or use your browser's Find feature) to find the following code:

<td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="search.php$session[sessionurl_q]" accesskey="4" rel="nofollow">$vbphrase[advanced_search]</a></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
<!-- / header quick search form -->
</if>

Just below the above code, add the following:

<!-- START NEW PARACHAT CODE -->
<!-- NAVBAR POPUP MENUS -->
<if condition="$show['member']">
<!-- chat menu -->
<div class="vbmenu_popup" id="chat_menu" style="display:none">
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0">
<tr><td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="chat.php?$session[sessionurl]">$vbphrase[parachat_embed]</a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="chat.php?$session[sessionurl]&do=popup" target="parachat" onClick="window.open('chat.php?$session[sessionurl]&do=popup', 'parachat', 'width=600,height=400,status=no,scrollbars=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes'); return false"> $vbphrase[parachat_popup]</a></td></tr>
</table>
</div>
<!-- / chat menu -->
</if>
<!-- / NAVBAR POPUP MENUS -->
<!-- STOP NEW PARACHAT CODE -->

Then, after that, I want to be able to display the number of users chatting. I need to do that:

Double-click on navbar to edit the template. Scroll (or use your browser's Find feature) to find the following code:

<if condition="$show['pmstats']"><br /><phrase 1="$vbphrase[unread_x_nav_compiled]" 2="$vbphrase[total_x_nav_compiled]" 3="$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[private_messages_nav]</phrase></if>

Just below the above code, add the following code.

<!-- New ParaChat Code -->
<br>$vbphrase[parachat_chatting]
<!-- Begin Counter Code -->
<applet codebase="http://host7.parachat.com/pchat/applet"
archive=counter.jar code="count.ChatCounter.class" width=20 height=10>
<param name="query.Site" value="$vbphrase[parachat_siteid]">
<param name="ui.bg" value="E1E4F2">
<param name="ui.fg" value="000000">
<param name="ui.FontSize" value="12">
<param name="ui.FontName" value="Arial">
Sorry, your browser is not Java enabled, please visit
<a href="http://www.parachat.com/faq/java.html">our java support pages
</applet>
<!-- End Counter Code -->
<!-- End New Code -->

Can someone help?

you'll need photoshop... open the .psd that are found in the PSD folder that you want to edit. click on the layer with the Text and change it to whatever you want... then save them with a new name.

Been using Chestnut for a while.. damn fine style. A user just pointed out to me that there is no 'edit' button to modify posts... and I can verify that it's not showing up.

I have 'quick edit' set to yes in the admin, am I missing something? The odd thing is that the 'Site' button is where 'Edit' is normally located, could this be part of the problem?

Anyone run into this??

Do you want differents colors to this style ?

I would like it fully compatible with vB 3.6.5 - I think some templates are out of date?
And maybe some icons (the ones by the posts) updated - I think some are the default vB one?

Allan

It's compatible 100% with vB3.6.5 because thre aren't changes of templates between vB 3.6.4 and vB 3.6.5

For icones, very little is of origin.
