View Full Version : Moderators Functions - Timed Stickies by Zoints - Automated unsticking of stuck threads when YOU want

Zoints
19 Oct 2006, 23:37
This modification allows you to stick a thread until a specified time. Once the specified time is reached, the thread is automatically unstuck. Simple, but extremely useful if you're like me and forget about stuck threads for 6 years until someone finally complains.

Do you have a team of vBulletin coders locked away in a deep, dark basement where they're forced to code for food or something? Jeez. :p

Yet another "Zoints" mod that goes on the install list...

Tested the mod on a thread, set it for 9:00 PM to unstick... 9 came and went and the thread was still stuck. Clicked on "Change Timed Sticky", and it was not set for 9:00 PM, it was set for 5:00 PM.

Set another thread for 10:00 PM, and when I clicked "Change Timed Sticky", it was set for 6:00 PM. Is GMT a factor somehow?

I'm kinda confused...LOL :)

Hmm. Is your server time different from your personal time?

*edit* I see the issue. We'll have a fix up ASAP.

Gripemaster

Yes, my server time is different from my personal time, but only by one hour.

As far as GMT... it's -4 hours (until next week when it changes to -5)

And yes this GMT crap has always driven me nuts LMAO!

Will await your fix. :) Thanks a bunch.

Couple questions:

1. Will this work for 3.5.x versions of VB
2. Does this use permissions? If now is this planned?

1. Yes, please see my sig for the proper version.

2. How would you apply permissions to this? Meaning who is allowed to set a timed sticky?

Heheh.

I must say, it's kinda neat to have the creator of vBGarage installing some of our mods

My installation went OK without the need to do the template edit, but the code <div><label for="ao_tst"><input type="radio" name="do" id="ao_tst" value="timedsticky" /><if condition="$show['unstick']">$vbphrase[change_timed_sticky]<else />$vbphrase[timed_sticky]</if></label></div>is not in the SHOWTHREAD template. Should it be?

Hi Bob,

Long version: It might not be that *exact* code anymore. But if you do a template search for "$vbphrase[unstick_thread]" you'll see it shows in showthread somewhere. From version to version vBulletin changes quite a few minor things. So if you do a search for that entire string of code, it may not show depending on your vBulletin version, style, other mods, etc.

Short version: Nothing to worry about, it's fine :)

Yes the permissions would be for only certain usergroups to use this times sticky feature. So basically if only usergroup "A" can use they will see the option if you are usergroup "B" that option isnt even viewable in the drop down

Any chance of a vB4.1.x version?
I would say not...Zoints as a company has been largely dormant for years now. The "Zoints" account has not been online since 2009.

I'll do it myself ... give me a couple of weeks due to work etc.

Trouble is Zoints (c) means I can't share it :(
