This is the nomination thread for Board of the Month of April / May 2009.

Please note the BOTM Rules here:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/info.php?do=botm

Nominations will be accepted until the 31st of March 2009.

When nominating please post the site name, URL to the forum, a short description what makes your board stand out from default vBulletin, and a reason for nomination that will motivate others to second the nomination. If the staff feels that a nomination post is too promotional it will be edited accordingly.

Any sites without a name, URL, description and reason for nomination will NOT be entered into the poll. Please ensure that your nomination is in the format:

Site Name: vBulletin.org
URL: www.vbulletin.org (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/../) - this must be clickable
Description: Official vBulletin Modifications Site
Reason for Nomination: Not Nominated. This is an example nomination.

When seconding sites, please ensure that you use the same post for the maximum of 3 allowed seconds. Any seconds not located in your first seconding post will not be counted. Please also ensure that you quote the nomination post you are seconding in your post (Use Multi-Quote Option if you are nomination multiple boards). If there is no name or URL provided then the post will be ignored when the nominations are counted.

Also, please make sure that you are seconding a forum that has already been nominated by its forum owner. Any seconds for a forum that has not been nominated yet will be counted as null and void.

Please posts only nominations or seconds, no "Thank you" posts are needed, they clutter the thread and will be deleted.

Any queries regarding the BOTM Contests should be sent via PM to King Kovifor (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/member.php?action=getinfo&username=King Kovifor) or an administrator.

Best of luck to all nominees!

Site Name: 8WayRun

URL: http://www.8wayrun.com/

Description: Soulcalibur (Soul Calibur) for the hardcore enthusiast! A Tournament Competitive Community for the Soul Calibur series. 8WR is the home for the English speaking competitive community for this popular fighting game. With members all around the world; gamers get together to share ideas, strategy and good ole' competition. We are also the forefront of the Soulcalibur IV National Tournament series and supply event planning tools to tournament organizers.

Reason for Nomination:

Fully skinned interface (multiple skins available). Each skin has custom header images; when you first visit the site, your header image will be randomly selected based on a character within the game. When you visit any character specific forum; the header image will be forced into the header image for that specific character. If you go to the Talim forum, Talim will be in the header; If you go to the Cassandra forum, Cassandra will be in the header, etc... With an account, you can even bypass the random selection and decide which character you wish to show by default.
In depth video directory. I am the author of the Video Directory Remixed mod; so you can pretty much guarantee that I make use of it. The video section has videos from tons of players, including match videos for money matches, casual matches and even tournament matches. Some players have even uploaded combo and training videos.
Weekly Online Ranking Battles. While the majority of the community cares little for online matches (we are a serious community, and online battles is to say "less than serious"); we still offer weekly tournaments through the online networks of Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Players can also challenge other players; as well as TEAMS, to ladder matches to improve their rank.
In depth move list WIKI. While the Wiki is still incomplete (since the competitive community gets ZERO support from the developers at Namco Bandai); all the information in the wiki is being discovered and implemented by the users. So each day, new information gets added to the wiki and soon it will be a central information cache for frame data and move lists.
Event Forum with RSVP.
Java based chatroom.
Arcade with 20 games.

The site also uses a custom-built default site style, available in both red and green versions. There's also a "simple skin" available for dial-up users which is based on the standard vBulletin skin.

I originally wanted to post screenshots of all these features, but I decided that would take up way too much space - so you'll have to see them for yourself! Several of the features listed above can only be seen or used by registered users. Use the test account below if you'd like to try some of them out:

Site Name: The Quad4Forums
URL: www.vbulletin.org (http://www.quad4forums.com)

Description:
A site for people devoted to the General Motors Quad4 and Twincam engines and the vehicles they came in

Reason for Nomination:
I nominate this board b/c of its simple, yet extremely functional design, and its perserverence to weather the storm. This site has undergone an owner change, a server crash, a database corruption (months of which were spent offline hand-rebuilding the SQL database), as well as multiple hacks from random places and people.
The userbase of this site is phenomenal. They are not only online friends, but personal friends who organize meets in different places around the country (see the quadbash), and are there for their fellow boardmates. When I lost my job and my car broke down, a few members sent me the parts I needed, no questions asked.
This board represents what a true vbulletin board should be like. Friendly, knowledgeable members, a decent server/hosting suite, and administrators not afraid to make changes for the better.

Things to check out....
The active EVO chatbox.
The ajax search feature built into the navbar.
The main page with the "factory cars" image integration.
Recent threads scrolling in the header.

(Simple, yet functional)

Site Name: Blues Brothers Central (The Soul Food Cafe Forum)
URL: http://www.bluesbrotherscentral.com/forum/
Description: The forum for Blues Brothers Central, based on the Soul Food Cafe in the Blues Brothers Movie
Reason for Nomination: The forum has a heavily customized theme (created by myself), with original artwork/graphics. It completely fits in with the topic of the site ("The Blues Brothers"), and it's instantly recognizable by fans.

The forum uses vBSEO to boost loading speed, it gets a lot of traffic from Google searches looking for information from the movie. It's important that those people can get the information they need without being forced to register, or wait for a slow page covered in advertising to load.

It has customized icons for each forum, as well as a Games Arcade and Chatroom ("Bob's Country Bunker"). The forum is well moderated and maintained, and there has always been a great sense of community amongst the members.

The advertising is relatively low, and much of it only displays to unregistered members.

There's still plenty of work to be done, the main website is 95% rebuilt (from scratch) and will integrate much closer with the forum. The last 5 threads will be displayed on the homepage, and related threads will display on other pages throughout the site (ie Dan Aykroyd's page will show the last 5 threads in the Dan Aykroyd forum, and so on).

I have been administrating DIYProjectorKits.com for almost a year and a half now and and feel that it has come a long way. We have incorporated Ustream.tv into our portal page and have our live chat also coded in. I feel that many people would like the clean design and overall look of the site. I try to keep the code and components installed to a minimum but also make it very robust for our clients. I have been with Vbulletin.org now for a while and feel that there is great code and mods to help all of the learning and experienced admins out there...keep up the good work everyone! A description of what is offered on the site follows.

This is the place where you can learn how to build your own DIY LCD projector and enjoy the Big Screen Experience without the big price tag. A DIY Projector can be built for the cost of a replacement bulb in a commercial projector. We are THE site on the internet offering a "One Stop Shop" for the DIY projector community as far as professional information and in stock top of the line DIY Plans, parts, and kits. We also carry a selection of LCD panels and controllers. Stop by our new robust forums for everyone to share their thoughts and journeys with DIY LCD projectors. Our registration is going to offer many great things that other sites you will come across regarding DIY Projectors will not be able to match. (contests, give aways, coupons, LIVE CHAT SUNDAY NIGHT, Tech Support) If you are brand new to the DIY scene welcome, we are all here to help everyone grow, if you are a veteran builder looking to show off, lets see your stuff! please join us!!!

Reason for Nomination:

I feel that nominating DIY Projector Kits would be an awesome reach for the home theater and DIY projector enthusiast to find out what is offered for them. I feel that through Vbulletin.org and some great motivation and design this forum is a great place to visit and I would love to see a reach to the community out there to see how a nice site can come together and not look like every other site that offers a forum. You can still incorporate great clean design with a lot of information for our community. Thank you very much!

Sitename: PaintBaller.ie - The Home of Paintball in Ireland (http://www.paintballer.ie)

URL: http://www.paintballer.ie

Description:
PaintBaller.ie is Ireland only dedicated paintball website. It is much more than a website and webforum, but for its members it is a way of life. Up until March 2009, it was phpbb based with a content management system, but not it is rolling with vbulletin, vbadvanced and vbseo.

It is a very close night community, those that are registered yet we get large amounts of visitors who come for the quality content / articles and some stay for the community. We use flash chat4 for our evening chats for who ever is online.

We organise monthly paintball outings where the board members all get to meet up in person and shoot each other :), which is uncommon for a internet forum.

Some of the hacks installed are:
Facebook Connect
Front page slide show
Automatic Thread Tagger
Cyb Chatbox
Flastchat
Live topic
VB Blogs
Subforum manager
PM enhancements
vbadvanced are all but to name a few.

The style is custom, detailed yet simple. People can find the information they want in the easily arranged forums. The domain has been around for 2 years now and ranks 2-3 in our own country for the main keywords and very high every where else for important paintball keywords.

Check it out and if you are impressed in the first 10 seconds, then second this nomination :)
