** 25/08/2010 This style has been superceded by this one: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=249277

However, you can run them both if you know you have older mobile phones accessing your site as they may be able to render this one better **

This is a port of my mobile style from 3.7/3.8 (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=174375) to 4.0.0.

It is a very cut back style with very low bandwidth usage which renders well on pretty much all small screen devices from old Nokias to new iPhones.

Currently it only supports forums/thread/posts/PMs. Recent vBulletin features such as Social Groups, Albums, Blogs are not supported (although they should still disaplyin a not-so-mobile-friendly way...)

Further customise this style with Mobile Style Options (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=229044)!

Supports viewing/posting/replying in forums
Supports Private Messaging
Supports Tags (viewing, not adding)
Supports Thread Prefixes
has an add-on product to customise here: Extend and Customise Mobile Style (It is recommended that you install this also, but not required)
Supports other stuff too ....

Version Control
1.0.0 - Initial Relase from 3.7
1.0.1 - Fixed issue with "Friendly URL's" not being compatible
1.0.2 - Updated version numbers to 4.0.99 (should cover all 4.0 releases with the "Out of date templates" messages. Removed Replacement Variables.
1.0.3 - Fixed known template bugs

Install Instructions

Save wireless.css.txt to wireless.css and uppload to your forum root
Save XML style file and install via AdminCP

Notes

To change style attributes, you need to edit the CSS file
Please leave copyright and the link as they are - it links to a very niche forum which is very ulikely to detract from or take members form your own.

Awesome work, much appreciated.

Have you kept the looks the same? I've not installed the vb4 beta yet but I'd love to see a few screenshots of how this is looking. It's much anticipated.

Looks the same - I've changed as liitle as possible. It is the same CSS file, so if You've made customisations, they will still work also.

This will be great for mobile users, however, I'm having some troubles with the links in the forum. When I try opening a post it will just refresh the threadlist, and when I click on the Forum link on top I get the message: Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator.
Can I fix this? Thanks :)

Dartho made this quickly after I had asked about a vB4 version, and I had the pleasure of being the guy to test it for him.

Confirmed working on a Samsung Messenger SCH-r450 as well as the 3.8/3.7 version.

I can also confirm the Different Domain, Different Style hack for the vb 3 series still works for vb4. So grab it and this and hook up mobile.yourdomain.com and you're good to go!

Thanks - I see the problem now. It is to do with the friendly URL's. I should be able to fix, but it won't be today.

So for anyone else, please not that this style is currently NOT ocmpatible with any but standard URL's.

Very glad to see this is being ported for 4.0, Dartho you will most definitely be getting a pint of cider (maybe even two) on me.

If there are any screenshots, I'd love to see them. If not, or if they're basically the same as 3.X, no matter.

It's hard to get motivated to do this as it has little appeal on my own site... that's not a "no", but ....

Same as 3.x version - all though there are a couple small mod/management extras

dartho
18 Dec 2009, 00:37
This isn't an "iPhone" style - it's more generic and will display on devices of all sizes and capabilities, most importantly - mine :-)

There are a few styles for 3.8 for iphones, I'm sure it won't take someone long to update theirs for 4.0.

Also keep an eye out for a future 4.x release of vBulletin with a built in 'lite' style - they've already started work on it, have a look at the postbit_lite template ...

I have a query which should sort out all those template conflicts:

---snip---snip---
UPDATE `DBNAME`.`template` SET `version` = '4.0.0', `mergestatus` = 'none' WHERE `template`.`styleid` =XX;
/---snip---snip---

change DBNAME to the name of your database,XX to the styleid number of the mobile style and 4.0.0 to whatever the version number currently is.

4.0.0 worked for me with PL1. I subsequently changed it to 4.0.1 to see what would happened - it didn't have an issue, so you could probably up the version number to 4.0.99 if you wanted to - someone wanna test?

You'll have to change the above query to take any database prefix into account.

I've installed the style, but the forum links, etc. aren't links.

I have vBAdvanced running and the portion of the forum that is generated by it all render as they should, however the forum portion of the page just has unformatted text rather than them being links to subforums, threads, or posts.

This is copied from my PC, but it looks the same on the Mobile Device:

GeneralDiscussionForums - CommunityDiscussion - TheologyDiscussion - CurrentEvents - GoodCleanFun -Memories SpecialInterestForums - Photography - Bookreviews - Moviereviews - Recipes - Sports

A friend looked at it on his device and he says it's the same for him.

Am I missing something? I take it that the problem is related to vBa.

I've tried to solve the issue by putting copies of the css file in both the website root and the forum directories. but no joy.

Thanks in advance for any help here.

Thanks to dartho for taking a look at the site. The main forum page renders correctly till it comes to the place where the vBulletin forum is inserted by vBAdvanced. At that point the all links are broken because the spaces are removed from the code! "a href=" becomes "ahref=" and spaces in the link names are stripped out.

The vBAdvanced pages work fine in other styles, and this style looks fine on my test forum that doesn't have vBAdvanced.

I don't have a solution and doubt that I will. I thought I'd post what I've learned in case someone else runs into the same problem.

Doesn't seem to work that way on my iPhone. Is that not supported?

Your Admin panel specifies a default style for mobile and a default for PC. That's what I set. Mobile for the former and the standard one for the latter.

if this is not an automatic process, based on the user agent of the browser, then these steps are not needed or misleading.

I have our modified version of the VB Default Style as 1 and Mobile as 2.

No, this is just a style. The addon for this style just adds a few customisation options for the style.

However this product - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=226946 - has been reported to work under vBulletin 4 which may help automate the process.

Dunno what they did, but once the upgrade was completed it told us we had to revert 71 different templates (44 of those were for the mobile style). I reverted just 1 to see if it would have an impact and the Forumhome was destroyed.

If you want to get rid of the "Out of Date Templates" messages you can run the following query via "Maintenance=>Execurte SQL Query" the to get rid of those messages

change DBNAME to the name of your database,XX to the styleid number of the mobile style and 4.0.2 to whatever the version number currently is.

UPDATE `DBNAME`.`template` SET `version` = '4.0.2', `mergestatus` = 'none' WHERE `template`.`styleid` =XX;

Is that what I should be seeing? Based on the pictures posted I thought there was more.

dartho
10 Mar 2010, 07:46
Logging in to view threads is style indpendant - that's your sites configurations placing those restrictions.

vBulletin.org is configuresd such that when a members downloads a modification, it disaplys a notice to the author of the modification accordingly. Same as when you click the "Mark as Installed" link. As fgar as I can tell, you have not downloaded this styel nor clicked the "Mark as Installed" (which makes no difference to functionality, so doesn;t really matter)

Anyway - assuming that vBulletin.org is wrong and to answer your question, install and configure this: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=226946

No chance - how can I "mobilise" widgets when they can be anything you want?

vBulletin are actively working on a mobile style/interace, lets see what they have to offer ...

Thanks for making this theme.

The cms can be done but you need to lose the widgets as a compromise. Then the cms can be skinned for mobile devices, its not ideal but its mobile so its all there is.

I have a weird issue, when I use this style no attachments show up in posts. For some reason inside the postbit templates the attachments are being parsed through {vb:raw post.message} and the img tag is somehow being converted to an anchor, which is already wrapped around an anchor.
<a href="attachment link"...><a href="attachment thumbnail"... /></a>

I can't figure out why because everything shows up normally when I switch to the default style.

The attachment templates themselves are being completely ignored in this style and for some reason the attachments are being parsed inside the post content.

EDIT: I've discovered it only seems to affect attachments posted as INLINE attachments.

EDIT: I've found it. There's custom replacement variables that are converting inline images to anchors.

Hi,

I use the add on "every sidebar" and I 've the same problem with starli (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=2026423&postcount=177), in search page.

I followed the istructions you gave
Install this Mobile Style Options (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=229044) Add the following code to teh "Disable Addons" section
//disable everywhere sidebar
$vbulletin->options['esidebar_switch']=0;
$bbandSBactive=0;
but the problem remains.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

btw, dartho, you might wanna add "display: inline" for tag li elements.
or better yet, remove tags from mobile display.

if I already have a custom style, will I be able to also have a mobile style that only works if it senses a mobile device? or am I stuck with generic style for PC, and mobile style for handheld?

Please who can explain why when I try to edit the "forumhome" template I get this error:
The following error occurred when attempting to evaluate this template:
Unclosed Curly Brace Expression
This is likely caused by a malformed conditional statement. It is highly recommended that you fix this error before continuing, but you may continue as-is if you wish.

I was able to easily solve this problem. The mod reported above has an option to ignore for specific styles. Just enter your mobile style ID in there and problem solved.

and replace with

<a href="forumdisplay.php?{vb:raw session.sessionurl}do=markread&amp;markreadhash={vb:raw bbuserinfo.securitytoken}" rel="nofollow">{vb:rawphrase mark_forums_read}</a>

Have you tried to edit styles? VBulletin throws errors about missing bracket and refuses to save this style. Did I miss something? Also, I think this should be used in style.

I had no issue making the change. Does vBulletin have an issue if you just add a blank line at the end of teh template and save it?

I really like this mobile style, and the two other mods to help manage it. I do have a couple questions, though.

What would be the template code to add the "add infraction" and "report post" links, in a similar format to the [Edit] and [Reply] links, perhaps [Report] and [Infract] or some such?

How can I add an appropriate [New] link to a thread title to get it to jump to the first new (unread) post in a thread?

thanks,

Thanks.

If I manually add (board)/infraction.php?do=report&p=x to the url, I was able to give an infraction to post x. It can work at some level.

It wasn't pretty, though: after submitting the infraction, it remained on the same "give infraction" page so I couldn't really be sure it worked. When I navigated back to the page, though, the post did have the infraction.

I'm adding a bit of functionality back to this very useful style, building for a smart phone with a larger screen - i.e., iphone, blackberry, or android.

I pulled language from the default postbit template, trimed it down, and added to the mobile postbit template. I thought I'd document my efforts here if anyone else wanted to use them.

Issue infraction or warning:<vb:if condition="$show['infractionlink']"><a href="infraction.php?{vb:raw session.sessionurl}do=report&amp;p={vb:raw post.postid}">[Infract]</vb:if>

Show received infraction or warning:<vb:if condition="$show['redcard']"><a href="infraction.php?{vb:raw session.sessionurl}do=view&amp;p={vb:raw post.postid}">[Red]</a>

<vb:elseif condition="$show['yellowcard']" /><a href="infraction.php?{vb:raw session.sessionurl}do=view&amp;p={vb:raw post.postid}">[Yellow]</a></vb:if>

Report post: <vb:if condition="$post['reportlink']"><a href="{vb:raw post.reportlink}">[Report]</a></vb:if>

I still need to work on the infraction page itself - it won't show that the infraction actually gets issued, though it does issue it.

Continuing my documentation, I added a "view deleted thread" link in threadbit_deleted:

<vb:if condition="$show['viewthread']"><a href="showthread.php?{vb:raw thread.threadid}">[{vb:rawphrase view}]</a></vb:if>

I'll be happy to share when I'm mostly done with it, but I'm not sure it would be proper. I think I'd like to get an OK from the original poster first, and add a large caveat that I'm new at this stuff.

Fract - Did you see my reply to your post on this here http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=2040400&postcount=212

This and otehr fixes/updates will be incorporated in a future release, but jmwking's additions may not.

However, jmwking is welcome to post attachments in this thread, these of course won't get updated as this style does. If I work on templates associated with these edits, then that's another story - but I don;t have plans to in the immediate future.

Best bet is to summarise all your edits in a single post (go back and re-edit it) and I"ll add a link to it in the first post for those that are interested.

Yea, thanks. Just on my version of VB, I can't edit mobile style templates because of some error. VB always says, that some bracket is missing and refuses to save template. So, I am just waiting for fixed xml style file.

Sorry.

This shows up if you have the mobile options addon installed in addition to this - I'll post a new version up soon, but in the mean time edit the navbar template in the mobile style and replace

<a class="navbar" href="{vb:raw $vbulletin->options['mo37_navbar_home']}{vb:raw session.sessionurl_q}">{$vbulletin->options['mo37_home_link_text']}</a>

with

<a class="navbar" href="{vb:raw vboptions.mo37_navbar_home}{vb:raw session.sessionurl_q}">{vb:raw vboptions.mo37_home_link_text}</a>

@dartho, I have this style installed along with the optional add-on and it works great!

However, I have the Random Album Picture mod enabled which runs globally across all my styles above the forums... Just wondering if there is a way to disable it in this style only. I know this isn't a problem with your style, it works perfectly, just thought I'd get your opinion...

Thanks for this mobile style, I have needed it!

I've tried it but I've found two problems:

If a member (or a visitor) chooses to try the style from a computer (not a mobile phone), he can't revert afterwards to another style because there is no style chooser available in the style.

If he visits the top domain page, this is the cms and the link to the forums doesn't work.

dartho
11 Jun 2010, 00:04
Install "Mobile Style Options" and configure the style chooser http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=229044 and also edit the navbar template in the mobile style and replace

<a class="navbar" href="{vb:raw $vbulletin->options['mo37_navbar_home']}{vb:raw session.sessionurl_q}">{$vbulletin->options['mo37_home_link_text']}</a>

with

<a class="navbar" href="{vb:raw vboptions.mo37_navbar_home}{vb:raw session.sessionurl_q}">{vb:raw vboptions.mo37_home_link_text}</a>

This fixes a bug in the style. I'll be releasing an update real soon to address this.
