View Full Version : Suite Style - vB4 Blue

26 Dec 2009, 14:16
Now updated to vB 4.0.7 as labeled in the new download

Here's a skin I am sort of modeling off of vb.org here, I am using threadmarkers from Shelley_c http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=229462 (mostly because I am just not that fond of the huge images they are using in 4).

Preview Here (http://www.politicalgroove.com/forum.php)

To install go to AdminCP > Styles & Templates > Download / Upload Styles > Import style XML file and browse for vb4_blue-style.xml and import it. Upload the images to your forum root images folder, so it should be forum/images/vb4_blue.

Q&A
Q: How do I enable the side blocks?
A: Admin CP > Settings > Options > Forum Sidebar and Block Options. You must also go to Forums & Moderators > Forum Blocks Manager and add your blocks before it will work.

Q: I don't have a CMS, will this still work for the forum only?
A: Yes.

Q: It's working for the forum but not the CMS?
A: Login from the front end, use the pencil icon and change the theme to the new style instead of default style.

Anything 4.0.2 or below please download vB4_Blue.zip

nice one m8, i have a question i have modified some of the files (footer.....) in the default skin can i make it automatically be modified in every style i install?

I believe the only way to maintain it across all styles is to make your preferred style the parent and add any new styles under it.

You may want to clear your CMS cache, not sure why else it wouldn't show, it works on two of my sites with the CMS. The images should go into the /images/vb4_blue/statusicon/ directory.

Thanks, good to know, for now if you want to rename one of the existing images to that and overwrite them that will work. The amount of forum marker images they've created for 4.0 is unbelievable.

I like your style very much and intend to use it for my new forum. Unfortunately the buttons with patriot style is not to good for me as I live in Switzerland... The forum is for marketing students. Any idea if I can get something like ordinary folders or any other smooth style that would fit in your design?
Thanks for your help!

Sure, you can do that through style vars after the style is installed.

Go to your Admin CP > Styles & Templates > Style Manager > vB4 Blue
On the stylevar menu click on ImagePaths and look for:
Item Status Icon Folder and click "Revert" just above it.

That should set them back to default icons for you.

Using as my default now. But I was really interested in the blocks on the right hand side of your screenshots for the forum.

I have Forum Blocks setup, but they never seem to display. What did you do to enable them to show?

Edit: Nvm, found it. Didn't scroll down far enough in the giant "show all options" page. Great design, thanks again!

Can I add this to my board as a second style that is user selectable? I have got lots of users who actually like the new VB Greenish theme, but I don't like it myself too much and would like to select this blue for myself and have it available to other users that wanted it.

On any article on the front page (I always choose the first one on top) you can change the style and that will apply it to the whole CMS. Have a look at these screenshots.

The text wrapping in first and last post in a thread is a bug in 4.0.1 and has nothing to do with your style. The bug is fixed in the upcoming 4.0.2

You can always change the color for the header stylevar to match your logo, even though it's a gradient this should be close #07285e

Sounds like a modification, probably one that previously required you to manually edit the postbit. I would check back through them and see which one it is and apply it to the new template.

To fix the postbit alignment problem You can Do this:

Search in postbit_legacy:

<div class="content<vb:if condition="$post['isfirstshown'] || $post['islastshown']"> has_ad</vb:if>">

Replace with this:

<div class="content">

Hi,
I just installed your style. I like it.

During installation I made a mistake. I think overwrite the default css options of vb.
Now only one style is available and that is with vb4_blue.

My idea is to create child style and keep both available to visitors. I want to have both styles.

How do I revert to Default Style ? And how to install the vb_4 blue as child style ?

I tried Style Manager >> Default Style >> Revert all templates - It did not work.

Please help me.

Sure, you can always add back the default style by going to Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Add New Style (at the bottom). That will create a fresh default template.

Just looking at this thread for the first time http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1984091#post1984091 Holy cow man they made a lot of changes. I can't mess with this until I get home later but my guess is that most of this style will have to be rebuilt. I can imagine many of the other styles here will be in for the same thing.

I will bump this thread when I have this version in place, I will most likely have to have separate version between the current version and 4.02.

Hmm.. I am unable to replicate that. You also still have the vb4_blue folder within the images folder, right? Also, the bars use the default image class and then just lays the color on top of them so that's sort of strange. I wonder if something changed in the upgrade process today because during my upgrade it did a lot of merging with templates and it all seemed to work.

Okay, those are no longer applicable. To see the image paths check out the StyleVars and look for ImagePaths. They are all default in mine with the exception of Item "Status Icon Folder" which is set to images/vb4_blue/statusicon

Can you see if yours matches up to that?

do it again, that's what happend with me. at the first time was broken but after did again it worked.

admincp > styles and templates > revert all templates
it will show you the templates that going to be reverted, after that it will ask you if you are sure, press yes.

* I know that after upgrade to 4.0.2 in admincp asked you to revert some templates. but what i did to make it work is revert all the templates.

try this and let me know.

I don't see that option in the ACP- these are my options there:

Style Manager
Search in Templates
Replacement Variable manager
Download/Upload Styles
Find Updated Templates

Is the "revert all" option maybe an add-on you've installed?

Never mind - found it.

Have a look for doc_background in you stylevars, that should do it for you. You can add a background image and define how it's displayed there too.

There it was! Thanks.

I'm confused about the background image for a specific forum, though. I want a specific background image displayed ONLY for a specific (VIP) forum. Any ideas?

I think the only way to do that is to apply a different style to a selected forum, you should see that option under the Forum Manager > Style Options. So what you could do is import this style again, but give it a different name, then change the background and only apply it to the specific forum you want.

Try reading the thread, or at least the first post.

This works in 4.02 if you revert the style templates.

I just upgraded to v4.02, and reverted all templates...overall, most things seem to be fine. Strangely though, on the Who's Online page, the image URLs to display the icon legend point to .png files in the /vb4_blue/statusicon folder. However, these images only exist in .gif form here.

See attached. Is there something I've missed?

It should be like this, with images in the path.

/images/vb4_blue/statusicon/

you can change that in your stylevars by searching for statusicon.

My path is correct. The links on that page however are pointing to .png files, yet no .png files for these images exist in this style.

The image files in question are:

/images/vb4_blue/statusicon/wol_lockedout.png
/images/vb4_blue/statusicon/wol_nopermission.png
/images/vb4_blue/statusicon/wol_error.png

These are .gif files in the mod .zip file. I've converted the images here for anyone who needs them, but I thought you might want to fix the .zip file to include these.

That's what I did, too. The style could use some rationalization. A lot of the images have duplicate PNG and GIF versions, sometimes with slightly different file names.

That siad, it's still a great vB4 style. :)

The statusicon directory for vb4.0 has over 120 images related to forum markers, wol, etc. and renaming and working in a different set is one of the more tedious and painstaking tasks I have ever undertaken with vb. Why in the world they have so many forum markers is beyond me, they really went out of their way to reinvent the wheel with this version and I think it's why so many styles for vb4 don't change their those images.

So how do we fix this for this style?

It depends on which problem you're having.

If you are having the security token issue, you need to revert/rebuild the style as spelled out in http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?348619-quot-mark-forums-read-quot-not-working-after-4.03-Your-submission-could-not-be-processed-beca

1. Admin CP | Maintenance | Update Counters

2. Scroll down to:

Rebuild Styles
This function allows you to completely rebuild all style information. This is necessary after a major upgrade, or if you have manually edited any of the 'special' templates.

If you're not getting the security token error but just finding that Mark Forums Read still leaves listings bolded, see http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?348746-Some-Users-Reporting-Issues-with-Mark-Forums-as-Read - there's nothing you can do to fix it until vBulletin fixes it, because it's not a problem with the style.

Hi WF, thanks for the feedback. I show that the "What's New" link goes to /search.php?do=getdaily&contenttype=vBForum_Post that's also the same as they use on vbulletin.com. Can you see if it's the same on your old vb4? If not, we can always replace the link on vb4 blue with the one that works.

Okay, you will find those in the navbar template if you do a search for do=getdaily and replace them with do=getnew I remember having to mess with this before because getdaily wasn't working for me, seemingly the opposite of your issue. There don't seem to be any other issues otherwise. I'm thinking I noticed this issue in particular because I've not been at my site for a couple of days and by the time I installed this update I had already read today's (ie daily) posts.

Anyway...there are 14 "getdaily" references in the navbar, but some refer to {vb:rawphrase's "today" as a variable. My suspicion (in looking at the default template) that "new" and "daily" are certainly very different things.

I changed only 9 of the do=getdaily to do=getnew (anything relating to "new" in the subsequent {vb:rawphrase

Another thing I noticed...since the update, my postbit legacy spacing was back to the default...where the signature appeared below the postbit block, rather than the post.

I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or not, but it seemed to ignore / erase the additional.css change I made to fix this.

I've since edited the default postbit.css as explained here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?332279-Gap-between-signature&p=1880119&viewfull=1#post1880119)...everything seems to be fine now.

I honestly can't say, I haven't used VBSEO in a long time but I'm not sure what would cause this theme not to work with it. But if you got it working by reverting all then I'm sure it's working as it should.

2. Is there a way for me to reset the icons for threads that currently have the piece of paper? Previously those threads were all supposed to be "none" but it appears most now have that piece of paper instead. This is minor, but it would be nice if there is a quick fix for it :)

Thank you very much!
Have you tried to Revert your templates? I haven't tested with 4.1 yet but I would start with that and see if it doesn't resolve it. Please let us know if it works.

As for the paper icon, was it that way before the upgrade?

Lastly, if I only had a nickle for every VB upgrade! :)

And a nickel for every time someone (like me!) could have just reverted things lol... that seemed to resolve the gray bar issue immediately. Thank you!

As for the paper icon, I am pretty certain it was not displayed prior to the upgrade unless it was selected. It seems to show itself on every single reply, even if no subject was entered, either, and I don't recall ever seeing it before the upgrade.

I hope author will update this style for 4.1.x

It's working fine on 4.12 for me (and 4.08 through 4.11). Try reverting the templates for the style or updating the styles in the ACP Maintenance tab.

Installed this: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258510 as a replacement. It's only color change according to this theme so now I have no problems with template reverts at all.

I clicked the Preview Here (demo) and it's looks really good.

My question is would the colors, font, font sizes, boldness of the demo be automatically what I'd get or is it modified to the authors liking.

Thanks!

I hope I explained myself clearly. :erm:

The Preview-Link does not show the Style!

It looks like the screenshots or you can watch it "live" here: http://www.starter-forum.de/forum.php

This function removes all custom stylevar entries from the database where the stylevar no longer exists in the current master list. This removal is permanent so please make sure your custom styles are not using any old stylevars.

Is it okay to run "Remove Orphan Stylevars"? I just updated to vBulletin 4.1.10.

Just wanted to pass along that the template for Who's Online has the wrong extensions for the WOL graphics near the bottom of the page. The template lists them as png files but they are gif files.

I am having a major issue with the main tool bar and this theme. All the buttons are now not working, and it changed the order in which they are displayed. Any help would be appreciated. The site is www.teammp.net. I am not very good at editing CMS, PHP, or HTML.
