Change Log:

Updated 4.2PL2

Added Blog & CMS xmls

Updated 4.2 b1a

Feature: Added a Blue version.

Fixed Navigation background
Fixed transparent Blogs and Articles body_background stylevar.

Updated to 4.2-b1: Since there were some fairly large changes since 4.1.4 somethings may look a bit different but all in all the style remains in its original form.

This style is in beta stage, please remember to take backups when making major changes to your website styles/skins. Use this at your own risk!

Server error? you got to be joking right? I am installing a theme which is images and a style file that's it.

To make a point I just downloaded and uploaded gaming http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=245625 and it worked with out a problem.

I will disable the plugins and see if I can get the theme to work on my forum. Thanks for the help :)

Are you using vBulletin 4.0.4?

This style is mostly graphical, all templates are basically left unchanged. So I'm really at a lose here.

Trip3151
02 Jul 2010, 13:01
Hmmm I am thinking I should upgrade to 4.0.4! let me upgrade the forum and then I will see how I go with installing this theme :)

02 Jul 2010, 13:32
Back and updated to 4.0.4 and the theme works :) now we know that this theme will not work with 4.0.3 :) thanks for one of the best free dark themes for VB mate you have done a great job.

Just a small note for some reason the styles folder needs to have a CAP S ( Styles ) for the theme to work though other themes have a small s ( styles ) thought I would let ya know.

thanks for a great theme

The folder directory is something that is not a "set" thing among styles. I have a tendency to use Caps like that. No harm and it keeps styles from ********** only in the Styles folder. Some designers just upload their styles in the vbroot/images directory.

ok still having some issues with it.... when i go to my ftp and load the folders. i have a folder called blackend, within it i have the readme file the xml file and the folder called upload. within that folder another folder called styles. i must be putting everything in the wrong place. also if i load this theme it takes over and i cannot use the default theme unless i remove the blackend and reimport the derfault theme

ok tried it this time by loading styles to my images folder and then importing the xml from the hard drive on my PC. it now lets me swap between the two but still only shows red Xs for the buttons....

I had the same problem

You need to upload Blackend like this in your ftp:

forum/images/Styles/Blackend

It has to be 100% like that Styles has a cap S not a small s

refresh and it should work

Try setting Blackend as your default style in the AdminCP -> Settings -> Options -> Style & Language Settings -> Default Style "Blackend"

Let me know if that does not work.

Yes on the logo. In StyleVars for Blackend search for: titleimage

Set the path to your logo.

Streetgliderx
07 Jul 2010, 02:43
logo worked but the default selection of blackend didnt change the CMS... i may have underlying issues with the CMS since the first botched install attempt of the theme... it will not display widgets anymore. i tried to rebuild the default style and i even ran my tools.php program to reimport the default theme but no luck...

Qwk86gn
07 Jul 2010, 03:00
On your Home Page click on the edit pencil next to the page title. There you should see a "Style" choice. Select Blackend.

On the Widgets I'm not sure what your problem might be.

Hi guys, the more I mess with setting up my new vBul 4 forum with this skin the more I like it. Here is my forum http://www.southeastutv.com/site1 its a temp domain while I et it ready as i already have a forum up and dont want to move the domain just yet.

Anyhooooo, it appears they may be some small icon missing from this skin, or maybe you can show me the user error. If you look on my home page you will see the widgets on the left and they have no icons. If you right click on the red x telling you the image cannot be displayed it shows it is looking for - http://www.southeastutv.com/site1/images/Styles/Blackend/site_icons/html.png.

That file simply doesn't exist. The directory structure does but not the file.

OK, very professional, and just superb to look at.

I find two issues though, first, probably not an issue, I just don't see the reason to have two "styles" folders (one with a capital S). With all the modifications people do to their forums, there's no reason to make it more complicated. But, easily fixed.

Second, some add ons to the FORUMHOME template, in the What's Going On section, have a light gray background as opposed to the darker. There has to be a place to alter that in the stylevars, but I haven't found it yet.... Keep forgetting what stylevars is attached to what area....

Try the Blocksubheader color.. not sure 100% as i am not at home and can not install to help you out, you can also try searching in the .xml file for: "#999999" (minus the quotes) and replace with the color of your choice.

This was talked about I think on the first page of this thread. There is no issue as you said. It seems people are not happy with it this way which is fine, I will think about changing paths I guess if it makes a difference.

I have the same problem with the gray issue
http://www.outkasts.net.au/forum/clanmembers.php

That is all jacked out of shape. The developer of that addon is using the forumrow_background stylevar for some of it and somehow picking up the color:#999999; somewhere. Only way I can attempt to fix that is to check it out on your forum but I would need Admin Style & Template access to do so. They are aalso trying to use the forumhead_background for the categories which obviously isnt working either. PM me if you want help fixing it.

i downloaded the new stuff and the folder drop down has me confused....

i extracted all files and overwrite what i had so now i have a folder: Blackend>Blackend> PSD, upload, xml, readme.txt, vbulletin-Blackend.xml

in upload folder i have images, styles........ in xml folder i have vbulletin-Blackend.xml (which has a larger kb size) and vbulletin-Blackend-red.xml

in styles folder i again have Blackened folder......... in images folder i have another folder called styles.....

im just lost as to which ones i must upload or do i upload the images files to my already existing images file in my forum folder?

thank you

Qwk86gn
11 Jul 2010, 00:06
Well the zip is called "Blackend". Only thing you upload is what is in the "upload" folder.

If you upload the zip and are extracting it on the server via the File Manager on your host then it will be confusing. If you are doing it this way, simply zip the "images" folder and upload it to your vbulletin install directory. Then extract it, then it should be fine.

Qwk86gn
11 Jul 2010, 00:12
I can confirm on 4.0.4 since the update all is looking fine, Thanks Qwk86gn.

Glad to hear synseal. A quick note, if you do not like the fading to gray, you can darken the background color in the stylevars so it is not so noticable but that takes away from the effect of the gradient. The problem in the previous version was my gradient was simply to short. :)

Stylevars: forumrow_background & forumrow_firstentry_background are the 2 Vars for the the forumrows.

Same goes for the Whats Going On background. (wgo_background)

Streetgliderx
11 Jul 2010, 00:14
no i unzipped it all on the hard drive before uploading it to the server.... where i am lost at is what the extra folders are for and what to put where for the red side... also i am assuming i upload the larger file vb-blaxkened.xml form the xml folder?

Streetgliderx
11 Jul 2010, 00:21
and now the post mit image resizing aint working... i must have imported the wrong file... i imprted the old file back and got the image part working again

Qwk86gn
11 Jul 2010, 00:35
There is not extra folders. PSD is just the imges i made for the style that anyone can use to customize it further. They do not need to be on the server. The xml folder also does nt need to be on the server.

You must import both xml's to use the Blackend and Blackend Red version.

This is explained in the first and in the instructions. There is no extra stuff for the Red version except the statusicon_red folder inside the Blackend folder.

Not sure what heappened with the postbit_content_max_image_width var but I fixed it. Redownload the zip.

Streetgliderx
11 Jul 2010, 00:38
well inside the upload folder i got an images folder and a styles folder..... if i open the images folder i get another styles folder...... inside that is the stausicons-red... so essentially all i need is the statusicons-red folder and put it inside the Styles folder on my server?

ok i just deleted every thing i had on the hard drive and re-dl the zip file and extracted it... its much simpler now.... maybe it was a glitch in my overwrite part????

Streetgliderx
11 Jul 2010, 00:46

Qwk86gn
11 Jul 2010, 00:48
No I changed numerous images, not just the statusicon_red folder.

Not sure what happened with your zip as the one upload is fine.

The file structure is: upload/images/Styles/Blackend/All the image Folders for the style.

Simple as that. Ignore the PSD & the xml folders.

Ok guys, while I am loving this skin I have some stuff that I need sorted for me to go live with it, and trust me, I want to go live with it! I have had some of my mods look at this skin and they are loving it but I can't go live like it is. Here is the skinny,

In the image below you will see my "Category Text" "Admin Info and Announcements", since I upgraded to the "new release" the text in my categories has gone from orange to, well, grey. See below, dunno why this got changed in the new version but it did and I need to get it back to orange again.

https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/external/2010/07/27.png

Now, here is the really big issue I have that was the same on the old version and was hopeing it was fixed in this version. As you can see in the image above. When in the category view it is all one nice color in the forum row. When I go into the forum I get this horrible greyed out nastyness - see below,

https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/external/2010/07/28.png

I would like this color to be the same all the way along, just like the top image or even if it was the same as the replies/views window, it makes the skin look like it's failing and I cannot go live like this.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance.

On your first issue, I changed it because I thought it was to much orange :), you can easily change it back with these stylevars: forumhead_color & forumbits_aForum

hex: #FF9900

On the second, check and see if you have the image here: images/Styles/Blackend/gradients/forumrow_bg.png

Then check stylevar: threadbit_background
See if the image path is correct as above.

Ok, test colors changed so thanks for that, not just the last problem. I have indeed checked images/Styles/Blackend/gradients/forumrow_bg.png and stylevar: threadbit_background.

I can confirm they are pointing to the right location and image as instructed.

Happy to give you admin to my board to look at it if you want, it is a pre release test site.

If you want it the same color across the threadbit change threadbit_alt_background color to: #3A3A3A , the images is the same.

For what it's worth, as a bit of user feedback, IMHO that skin looks way better with the categories in orange per version 1.

Just MHO.

Qwk86gn
12 Jul 2010, 03:32
Appreciate the feedback and is noted. The only reason I changed it was because of the addition of the Red version that IMO didn't look so hot that way. Those things are easily changed by the end user.

Any questions just ask.

Once my site is up and running I will give you a decent good look see, you can refference it as a demo site if you want. I have to say your skin has transformed my site into something that sets it apart from my competitors and is visually very appealing indeed.

I offer you a huge dept of gratitude for all your hard work on this skin and giving it away for free! I have seen "paid" skins with less support and appeal than this.

I will be making a donation. Truly 5* skin.

(I use the orange version, with some very minor color tweeks)

Can i get a link to your site please. The postbit.css template was changed in 4.0.4 and there seems to be some merge issues and I cannot track them down. Sometimes the postbit control icons get cut off by 1px top and bottom. When you say previous style you mean the first release?

The first release had the old 4.0.3 postbit.css which also did not have the postbit_content_max_image_width. When updating it said template merge successful but it was not.

Edit: Try this please.

StyleVar: postbit_foot_background <--- Set the Color to transparent. Should fix your problem.

Hey there,

Noticed a few odd-looking images that the style has. Not too big of an issue, of course, but they look a little out of place on a dark background :)

First one is Blackend/misc/question_icon.gif
Second one is Blackend/misc/expires.gif
Third one is Blackend/statusicon/pm_new.gif

I'll post more when/if I come across them. Other than that I love the style :)

Qwk86gn
27 Jul 2010, 22:17
Yea some of the images are not really for darker Styles. Feel free to change them to whatever you like. I just cant go through every single image for the style. The majority of them are default icons.

I am asking if it is possible to change the text entry areas (quick editor, visitor messages, private messages, etc) from Black Text on White, to White Text on Black. We use a number of add-ons that suffer when editors default to Black on White, and our current theme has a number of issues that affect other aspects of it's use.

Since the Dev of our theme has abandoned it, I am search for a suitable replacement.

When viewing post edit history (where you select which versions of the posts you want to compare) the background is white and so is the text.

What stylevar would I have to edit to give it the "normal" background color for this style?

#postlist li {
background:rgb(250,250,255) url({vb:stylevar imgdir_gradients}/form-control-gradient-alpha.png) repeat-x bottom;
border-bottom:solid 1px rgb(203,209,251);

Just a minor question and this very well could be my ignorance, but when I imported this style and used the default style for the parent style, this style didn't seem to take on any of the modded templates i had in the parent style.

My shoutbox icons are gone, i had a tabs mod where i had to replace each of the templates one at a time to get that back, etc....

Is this an issue with 4.0.6 possibly or did I import it incorrectly somehow?

Sometimes when that happens I do this:

ACP - Maintenance - Rebuild Styles - Check "Renumber Styles" - Rebuild Styles.

Also make sure you uploaded the style to the correct directory.

Fungsten, I really appreciate the help. Unfortunately this didn't make any difference.

Seeing as myself and one other guy both have the tabs mod and our problem is the same, I'm fairly confident this has something to do with the combination of this style and that mod. I'll just have to look it over until something jumps out at me.

OK, i figured out the issue with the mgc_chatbox mod not displaying the images in the chatbox itself. I didn't read carefully enough in regards to the part of you having to copy the images folder over to the styles folder for EACH style you use. Derrrrrr....... So I got that squared away.

I'm still left with this:

https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/external/2010/09/38.png

It's almost like padding somewhere in between the forum categories, but no idea where to look in the templates to be able to at least change the background color. Could I possibly change the background color of the forums to match and solve this problem? (hopefully just answered my own question.....)

You really cannot use another style as a parent style. You are trying to overwrite what templates have been done to the Blackend style by your "parent" style. You basically have to edit each template that needs it per style you use, only way your going to get a consistent outcome.

Thanks for the link, but for numerous mods I have adapted for people using this style, the mod used its own css file or was just did not use the stylevars and was more or less hard coded ie.. #xxxxxx . So you have to go searching through templates and files. There should be a standard among mod makers to incorporate the stylevars in their mods, a lot already do this but there is a few that don't.

We cant name it "problem" because it`s more like an issue. The fact is just that some plugins(expeciali the major ones) have separate css with the stylevars so we have to modifi it for every other theme we have installed in our forum.

the answer to my question:
in vbulletin.css find:
margin: {vb:stylevar doc_margin};

and replace with
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;

Qwk86gn
05 Oct 2010, 05:34
Just change the Stylevar in the stylevar manager for Blackend. Do not edit the templates because your edits will be overwritten on a update.

Stylevar: doc_margin

Set left and right to: auto

Have a problem with the Tabs in User Profiles, they look gnarly.

You can see what I mean in my Profile here (http://www.dbc-forum.net/member.php/3-Paladin) I have made no changes to the theme other than the colouring of elements already in place. I do have a few add-ons that add tabs to this area (DB Tech Advanced User Tagging, Yet Another Awards System & vB3 Arcade).

Another issue I have is ... I have swapped the Text boxes and Input fields areas to White Text, Dark Grey background, but have a problem with login in Firefox & Chrome being light grey text on white background when focuses, I fixed in Opera and IE7/8/9 to the best of my knowledge, but Firefox and Chrome persist, can you offer advice on this?

Something is out of whack. Since none of the main templates are changed from default and I have not done any changes to any of the tabs it has to be the mod/mods or something you may have changed. Its creating a border for the tab plus a border for the tab description. Import the style again using a different name than your current one. See if the default Blackend style has this issue.

As for the login text issue i really have no idea without spending some time with it.

Thing is, I completely removed the old version of the theme before uploading, I did not over write the old one, the only template edits I've ever made are to Legacy Postbit, using the "How to Reduce Space in Postbit" mod, and a little bit of CSS in the Additional.css to centre the site banner.

My laptop charger has also blown up, so I can't get to all my 'stuff' to re upload the theme for at least 5 days. This was something I noticed started happening after the vB4.0.8 upgrade. If you can direct me to the bit of Template/CSS that handles the tab, maybe I can find the problem ...

----

Devil_Dog, Blackend_Red is essentially Blackend, with multiple StyleVar changes, since I modify from default anyway, I simply made the same changes I normally would to the theme, different shade of red, different link colours, different font colours, different gradients etc. etc..
