Major Lite Features

Advanced Shout Control: You have the ability to post shouts, edit your shouts, PM shouts to other users, Ignore other users, insert /Me commands, insert smilies, Bbcode, change font, text colour etc.

Advanced Staff Control: Give your staff members customised permissions to allow them to do certain actions, on all or selected instances and chat rooms. Permissions include: Silencing users, banning users, editing user shouts, Creating/Editing "Sticky Notices", Pruning shouts and much more.

Resource Optimisation: vBShout implements an Advanced Optimisation Protocol to save your forum resources. Enabling this will further reduce the amount of resources consumed by the shoutbox. AOP was originally featured in Inferno vBShout, and DBTech vBShout takes it to the next level by ensuring that all your chats are always up-to-date without taking up needless amount of resources.

Shoutbox Tabs: New PM's or User Chat Rooms create Tabs. Tabs will highlight to let you know something new has happened, and you can even set them to make sounds to alert you.

Active Users Shout-bit: Shows the users active in the tab/instance you are, with the option to view everyone who can enter/exit the room at will (and thus see any shouts posted) in a pop-up to save resources. Perfect for seeing what's going on and who's around at a glance.

Context Menus: Many places now make use of context menus – less having to remember /commands, one click access to the most useful and commonly used functions, and the ability for users to access their shoutbox settings directly from the shoutbox itself.

Custom Chat Rooms: Your users can now set up their own Chat-Tabs, where they get to set who can come and chat. Perfect for clubs, guilds etc. Admins can also create permanent Chat rooms for specific usergroups etc. – perfect for a staff only chat room for instance, or to reward loyal members!

Custom Shoutbox Instances: Ever wanted a separate shoutbox just for your admin forum? Got a part of your board only for VIP members? Now you can set a shoutbox specific to those areas.

Shoutbox Sounds: You asked for it, we delivered. Customisable sounds now available on receiving shouts, Invites, PM's and more. (Requires QuickTime Plugin)

Logging: Worried about staff members pruning the shoutbox to cover their tracks? Don't worry, with our advanced logging options, you can make sure a hard copy is kept of every action taken.

Downloadable Shoutbox Archives: You and your shoutbox admins can download a complete dump of the Shoutbox' archive for all instances. With 3 supported formats (tab-delimited CSV, XML and TXT), there's something for everyone whether your purpose is review or programming.

Easy Shoutbox Notice Editing: You and usergroups with the "Can Set Sticky" permission can now edit the notice by double-clicking the Sticky in the shoutbox. Quickly fix typos or rapidly update with new turn of events, editing it is never more than two clicks away.

Professional Only benefits:

Ignore List: Allows users to keep track of who they are ignoring, and control this option via a list.

Additional Moderation Commands: The ability to add/edit the sticky notice through the shoutbox.

Extended Instance Options: Allows you to have separate notices per instance, set usergroup settings for individual instances, and even set unique staff permissions for each individual instance.

Expanded Context Menus: Lets your member/staff use the context menu to add/update the sticky note, Ban and Unban users, Ignore/Unignore users and prune individual user shouts.

Major Lite Features

Customisable New Post / Thread Notifications: Allows you to make the shoutbox post when a new thread is created, or a new post is made. You can make this happen with all threads (Which will take user permissions into account) or only threads/posts from certain forums.

Revamped Thread / Reply Notices: Do you have a massive board with 100+ forums? With the revamped New Thread / Reply Notices page, you can edit exactly what forums show what notices in what instance all from one page.

Archive: View all the shouts posted since the last pruning, Also shows you the top X shouters, a variety of interesting and useful shoutbox statistics, and allows you to search previous shouts.

Shoutbox Report System: Members can now report offensive shouts by using the shout context menu. When a report has been submitted, those with the "Can Moderate Chat" permission will see how many reports need their attention via a new chat tab in the Shoutbox.

Easy User Infractions: The context menu also adds a quick link to infract users, for those who can access vBulletin's infraction system. This lets you quickly punish members who are overstepping your bounds.

Blog Integration: Give blogs a more prominent place on your forum by having the Shoutbox post notifications when someone posts a new blog or comments on a blog.

Professional Only benefits:

Personal User Shoutbox Options: Integrated with User CP, User gets to decide which things show on their shoutbox, PM's, notifications etc. Even what editor options show up for them. They also get to decide where their text input area goes for TOTAL customisation.

Extra Tab Options: The ability to set separate tabs for system notifications and notices is available in the PRO version, fantastic for keeping your chat tab uncluttered.

Custom Commands: Lets you and your users create their own commands for use. For example, create pre-set warning comments – Staff member types /firstwarning, Text appears saying "This is your first warning for breaking the shoutbox rules. You can view these rules at [link] If you have a question about this warning, please PM myself. Thanks."

Extra User Chat Room Moderation: Shows a page displaying every use-created chat room, who made it, how many active members/total members it has etc, and options to close it etc.

Advanced Archive Searching: Ability to search by any combination of username, Last X Hours, Start/End date, as well as keyword. Filter searches, sort by criteria etc.

Detach Shoutbox: Lets you and your users have the shoutbox open in a seperate browser window/tab for easier use etc.

Please bear in mind that certain AdminCP controls / settings may still reference the currently missing features. Please do not report these as bugs :)

We will be re-adding the missing features as vBulletin 5 matures more and the required functionality is added :)

You appear to have PHP 5.3.9 or higher installed on your server and configured to be too restrictive for vBulletin and vBShout to work correctly.

Please note that if you have a large number of usergroups, certain parts of this page may not work as intended.

If you encounter this issue, you can work around this by adding the following code to your .htaccess file:

php_value max_input_vars 10000

or altering your php.ini file to increase max_input_vars to 10000.

There is no php.ini file in vB5.

The server php.ini file is already set to max_input_vars to 10000

Adding php_value max_input_vars 10000 to the htaccess file causes a 500 error.

Suggestions?

php.ini is a system file. Under Maintenance -> View PHP Info -> "Loaded Configuration File"

You need to modify that file.

Fillip

Yessir, that is the file that reads the following:

; Maximum input variable nesting level
; http://php.net/max-input-nesting-level
;max_input_nesting_level = 64

; How many GET/POST/COOKIE input variables may be accepted
; max_input_vars = 10000

; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (128MB)
; http://php.net/memory-limit
memory_limit = 256M

Is there another setting that should be changed?

The error is that the shoutbox continues to read "Loading"

Every other function appears to work normally.

Can you check the View PHP Info page in your vBulletin ACP to see if the max_input_vars says 1000 or 10000?

If it still says 1000 you've not edited the correct php.ini file. Please check the "Additional Configuration Files Loaded" part and see if there are any other php.ini files that may have overridden your root setting.

Nothing has shown up on the forum.

You'll need to enter the SiteBuilder and add the vBShout widget to the page or pages upon which you want the shoutbox to appear.

SiteBuilder: On / Edit Page / Add Modules / Drag and Drop vBShout module to selected location(s) / Save Page / Exit / Turn Off SiteBuilder / Refresh forums dialogs twice by entering and leaving one of your forums.

I had this installed on Beta 14 and it worked well.

VB was giving errors when upgrading to Beta 16 so I deleted the entire forum and started afresh with Beta 16.

I've just gone to install vBShout v6 back in (now on VB5 Beta 16), and it installs & displays fine but when I type something and either hit Enter key or Shout button, it gives a popup saying "invalid_query_definition_x,dbtech_vbshout_shout" and won't post the message

PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function isAdministrator() on a non-object in core/vb/api/state.php on line 176That's not an issue in this mod, our mod doesn't interfere with those files.

It's a bug that happen only with vB5 in offline mode, if i use vB5 in online mode the plugin goes ok.
Infact the function who give an error is the follow:
protected function checkForumClosed()
{
if (!defined('BYPASS_FORUM_DISABLED')
AND
!vB::getDatastore()->getOption('bbactive')
AND
!vB::getUserContext()->isAdministrator()
AND
!$this->location['login'] // Login
)
{
return array('option' => 'bbclosedreason');
}
return false;
}

DragonByte Tech

Custom phrase types cannot be used in vB5 - the phrases have mostly moved to the Hooks System phrase type.

Search for phrases starting with dbtech_vbshout_ to see all translatable phrases.

I'm getting the same error as well. <!-- ##phrase_x_minutes_ago_0## --> with each shout.

Using the latest versions of both the forum and the mod to the best of my knowledge.
Got the forum last Saturday, downloaded the shoutbox on Wednesday I think it was. v6.1.0a3 [Lite] according to the zip file.

I would like to change the white boxes to transparent but can not find them in the xml please see attached pic.

After + 33}px; width:98%; try to add: background-color: transparent;

Here is what my dbtech_vbshout_shoutarea_vertical looks like:
<ul class="dbtech_shoutarea_{vb:raw instance.options.shoutarea}">
<li>
<textarea id="dbtech_vbshout_editor{vb:var instance.instanceid}" name="dbtech_vbshout_editor" data-instanceid="{vb:var instance.instanceid}" rows="9" cols="1" style="height:{vb:math {vb:var instance.options.height} + 33}px; width:98%; background-color:black; color:orange; float: {vb:raw instance.options.shoutarea};"></textarea>
</li>
</ul>
Note after background-color:black; I added color:orange; because it was black font on black background so I made it orange to match our style.

Sorry, I just noticed about the buttons you wanted white, as far as that I would go to dbtechs website and submit the question in their vbshout forums.

I tried this but vBShout module is not available there in the available modules

I've decided to put a fresh install of 5.0.2 on my site as my previous upgrade was causing issues.

We ran the shout box on 5.0.1 with no real issue. Now however, with the new version of 5.0.2, there is a problem with new shouts.

When you post a message, the message remains in the left hand box once it has been shouted.. meaning you have to physically select it and delete it to write something new.

Bit frustrating. Is it possibly a config issue? or an actual bug?

Thank you :)

Fillip

I managed, with the help of a mate due to my limited coding ability, to find the problem.

First, check core.js - there appears to be a rogue textStatus instead of a statusText. This was causing the pause and the reason it wasn't generating a yellow error band.

Once that was change, we found a warning - there is a call to VB5_Template_BbCode in bbcode.php which generates 4 warnings at lines 370 to 373.

// parse non-forum item
case 'nonforum':
$dohtml = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dohtml'];
$dobbcode = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dobbcode'];
$dobbimagecode = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dobbimagecode'];
$dosmilies = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dosmilies'];
break;

These were the errors:

<b>Notice</b>: Undefined property: vB5_Template_BbCode_Imgcheck::$defaultOptions in <b>/var/www/vhosts/xxxxxx/httpdocs/xxxxxxxxxx/includes/vb5/template/bbcode.php</b> on line <b>370</b><br />

<b>Notice</b>: Undefined property: vB5_Template_BbCode_Imgcheck::$defaultOptions in <b>/var/www/vhosts/xxxxxxx/httpdocs/xxxxxxxxxxx/includes/vb5/template/bbcode.php</b> on line <b>371</b><br />

They don't appear to be assign properly. We just commented them out and assigned all the variables to false and it fixed the problem on the chatbox - but, it's obviously a bodge fix and doesn't actually resolve it as a whole.

Something you can look at further?- You probably have a lot more experience with the code.

Anyhow - all working now. Can sometimes be a little tempremental and require a refresh.. but all in all, big thumbs up on an awesome shoutbox :)

Have an issue where half of the staff can use the shoutbox and the other half can't.

On the Page of the User Settings (www.myurl.com/settings/) this message is shown:

If I disable the Mod then the link still works.

It takes twice as long now for text to show up in the box and still have to clear the input box every time as well.

I have just had from quite a few members that they never see the shoutbox if they are logged in. While they are logged out they can see it but of course can't use it. As soon as they log in they lose it completely. I have used one of the members credentials to test this and in fact it all disappears on log in.

Please fix this. It is a great addition to my forum but like this it is a disadvantage to many.

ThanksThis is because of the 500 ISE you yourself discovered. Please check your Apache server's error_log file.

On cPanel/WHM systems, this is located in /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log though your system may vary.

In that case you'll need to find the error log yourself or contact your host - you may need to Google to find out where 500 Internal Server Error messages are logged for your system & web server.

Some messages aren't showing even though they are sent, and they are definitely sent as they are currently showing in the downloaded archive. I have tried to clear the cache but this has no success. I do not use firefox and I am unable to replicate the issue, however most people on the site have given up due to how many "shouts" are not being sent.

I think I may have worked out how to replicate this issue. It appears that it occurs in all browsers.
When the forum has been opened and logged in (Shout box showing). Then the log in times out, the page on vBulletin doesn't change so it still appears to be logged in and the shout box still shows. This fools the user to think they can just continue to post in the shout box as they can still see everybody else's posts. However when you click onto another page you do actually realise you have been signed out. Is there any way to have this not occur or have vBulletin auto redirect to a log in page when it times out?

Thanks

Mark

Unfortunately not, no :(

If someone posts a shout before their timeout period appears, or they use the "Remember Me" checkbox when logging in, this issue does not occur.

Hey,
I just installed this today on VB 5.0.4 but the installation stopped unexpectedly.

I found it's in the 610a3.php install file - the "metakeywords" field didn't exist in my 'page' table (I'm not sure why - but it was a fresh install of vb 5.0.4).

So, I just commented out line 36 in that file and it completed.

Now it's working - it looks great so far. I'll also be looking to buy the Pro version of this (and the Arcade)

I'm not expecting a reply - just letting you know (in case others get a similar problem trying this out).

DragonByte Tech

Actually, that entire file is obsolete as of 5.0.4 - I had forgotten I made it that way :p

I've fixed it in the Lite (& Pro) version available @ our site for now.

Thanks :)

I also made this change but to no avail

You appear to have PHP 5.3.9 or higher installed on your server and configured to be too restrictive for vBulletin and vBShout to work correctly.

Please note that if you have a large number of usergroups, certain parts of this page may not work as intended.

If you encounter this issue, you can work around this by adding the following code to your .htaccess file:

php_value max_input_vars 10000

or altering your php.ini file to increase max_input_vars to 10000.

thanks

I found the problem. Indeed it's on vB5 side, the BB code parsong is causing some HTML error to be send back Inside the JSON return... here is a workaround :

In /include/vb5/template/bbcode.php

line 349, replace :
case 'socialmessage':
$dohtml = $this->defaultOptions[$forumid]['dohtml'];
$dobbcode = $this->defaultOptions[$forumid]['dobbcode'];
$dobbimagecode = $this->defaultOptions[$forumid]['dobbimagecode'];
$dosmilies = $this->defaultOptions[$forumid]['dosmilies'];
break;

with
case 'socialmessage':
$dohtml = self::$defaultOptions[$forumid]['dohtml'];
$dobbcode = self::$defaultOptions[$forumid]['dobbcode'];
$dobbimagecode = self::$defaultOptions[$forumid]['dobbimagecode'];
$dosmilies = self::$defaultOptions[$forumid]['dosmilies'];
break;

line 369, replace :
case 'nonforum':
$dohtml = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dohtml'];
$dobbcode = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dobbcode'];
$dobbimagecode = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dobbimagecode'];
$dosmilies = $this->defaultOptions['nonforum']['dosmilies'];
break;

with
case 'nonforum':
$dohtml = self::$defaultOptions['nonforum']['dohtml'];
$dobbcode = self::$defaultOptions['nonforum']['dobbcode'];
$dobbimagecode = self::$defaultOptions['nonforum']['dobbimagecode'];
$dosmilies = self::$defaultOptions['nonforum']['dosmilies'];
break;

That's it, 200 parser error will be gone.

This mod has not been updated for recent versions of vBulletin 5 just yet. I believe the latest confirmed compatible version was 5.0.4.

Hi, i'm fairly new to css, html and website management. But i'm the one in charge of designing our forum.

I had some trouble finding where the shout and clear button got it's color from, so i found the codes for them and deleted them. And now we can't hit enter to send the message. I was wondering if it's possible to remove the buttons but keep the commands so we can just hit enter and send the message?

Unfortunately that's not possible. The modification depends on the button's existence in order to submit shouts. Sorry :(

You could try setting their CSS to visibility:hidden and see if that helps?

Is it not possible to add the same system as the threads, as a drop down menu ?

if you use whm/cpanel on your server:

go to:

WHM -> Service Configuration -> Configure PHP and SuExec -> Choose “fcgi” for php5 handler, and save.
