Support - I am offering Support in this Thread ONLY...I unfortunately cannot be here during the coming weeks (Mon-Fri), so therefore you will have to rely on others for assitance, should it be urgent...If you do require assitance, please - Only reply in this thread

Hack info

What does it do? - Basically, you can allow registered board users to add Affiliation Links to the database, which have to be moderated by you...You can then display a Random Banner generated totally at random wherever you like, and it will be linked to the site of the submitter...Also it stores the Image Height and Width in the database, and you can limit the size of the Banners they can upload...If they change the image (located on their server) without editing their Banner, then it will not show up their Banner, Link, Hit Count, Edit Link or Site Name...They must then ask an Admin to update the Banner...Now there is also a List of the Banners on the site, and their Moderated Status...You can also choose how many Banners to show in the list;)

would be nice to add a option that allows unregistered members to affiliate. cuz we are a gaming clan and we get allies and stuff. and adding a email field would hurt >.>

DarkDraco07
27 Dec 2002, 04:47
also, if anyone wants to do what i did heres how to do it:

if you want unregistered people to be able to affiliate without registering do this:

open vbaffiliates.php and find:
--------------------------------------
if ($bbuserinfo['usergroupid']=="1") {
show_nopermission();
}
--------------------------------------

erase it and upload :p

Another question. How are you controlling the size of the banner?

DarkDraco07
27 Dec 2002, 06:08
um, the banners are originally 88x31. i dont know if hellsatan made it so its 88x31 only. and for the topsites i just edited the image height and width in the html coding

is there a way to show the links on a page in rows etc?

Also could it be possible to categorize them?

Chris M
27 Dec 2002, 13:39
@jj0923 - I suppose you could look at it that way...But this shows the Banners, and was coded differently to Arunan's hack;)

@colicab-d - I'm not sure what you mean by rows:s It would be possible to Categorise them, but I don't see the need when you only get to see a Randomnly chosen one...

If, by rows, you mean more than one Banner, then just change the Query in global.php, and change:

LIMIT 1
to the number of banners you want to show, i.e.
LIMIT 3

:)

@Smoothie - Controlling the Banner is proving to be difficult - Seeing as the url is stored, not the image, it is hard to find a way to limit the size of the banner...

Satan I was wondering, would it be possible to allow an upload of the banner, instead of linking?

Something like this hack, which allows banner uploads. I really don't want someones banner slowing our site down.

Check it out:

That would be a simple one to get around.

/* Add to functions.php */
function checkimagesize($imageurl){
global $maxwidth, $maxheight;
$size = getimagesize($imageurl);
if($size[0]>=$maxwidth&&$size[1]>=$maxheight){
return true;
}else{
return false;
}
}

/* Usage */
if(checkimagesize($image)){
//display
}else{
//skip this ad and get another one
}

Code's untested, but it should work.

28 Dec 2002, 04:22
how do u make it show more than 1 banner

Chris M
28 Dec 2002, 10:46
@kevo - I myself had this problem...In the vBulletin Options, be sure to read what Value you are setting for Height and Width restrictions...

If you do not want restrictions, just set them both to something like 900:)

@DarkDraco - This is untested, but:

Open forum/global.php
Find:
$affillink = $DB_site->query_first("SELECT linkid,name,link,b_link,height,width FROM vbaffiliates WHERE moderated='1' ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1");
Replace with:
$affillink = $DB_site->query_first("SELECT linkid,name,link,b_link,height,width FROM vbaffiliates WHERE moderated='1' ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT X");

Change the X to a value you want to show...I wouldn't recommend more than 3...

also how would i go about displaying say 5 links on my home (vbindex) is there a way to do it and can i have them listed horizontally?

I think also this would be kool (dont mean to sound rude its already an excellent hack)

If u can set it up so its displayed on a page in categories with maybe the top ten (maybe set in admin) of each showing a banner (in rows) and the rest in just plain link form :D

thnx again lol

Chris M

@DarkDraco07 - It depends where you want it to show...;)

By default, I made it globalised, so you can add it to your header template:)

If you want it to only add to index, revert the global.php change, remove the variable from the header template, and add it to the forumhome template...

Then open forum/index.php (this is untested)
Find:
// if user is know, then welcome
if ($bbuserinfo['userid']!=0) {
$username=$bbuserinfo['username'];
eval("\$welcometext = \"".gettemplate('forumhome_welcometext')."\";");
eval("\$logincode = \"".gettemplate('forumhome_logoutcode')."\";");
eval("\$newposts = \"".gettemplate('forumhome_newposts')."\";");

} else {
$welcometext = "";
eval("\$newposts = \"".gettemplate('forumhome_todayposts')."\";");
eval("\$logincode = \"".gettemplate('forumhome_logincode')."\";");
}
add below:
// ###################### vBaffiliates Stuff #########################

// vBaffiliates stuff

$affillinky = $DB_site->query("SELECT linkid,name,link,b_link,height,width,hits,userid FROM vbaffiliates WHERE moderated='1' ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT $maxbannernumbers");
while ($affillink=$DB_site->fetch_array($affillinky)) {

if ($bbuserinfo[userid]==$affillink[userid]) {
$editlink = " <a href=\"vbaffiliates.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=useredit&linkid=$affillink[linkid]\">Edit</a>";
}else{
$editlink = "";
}

if ($imginfo=@getimagesize($affillink[b_link])) {
if ($imginfo[0]>$affillink[width] or $imginfo[1]>$affillink[height]) {
$affiliate = "";
}else{
eval("\$affiliate .= \"".gettemplate('affiliate')."\";");
}
}
}

@squawell - I am assuming that this refers to the global.php file modification...Please can you post what you have got in that file...:)

@Dark Draco - I assumed that you put it there...If you didnt, then ignore the bit to remove it from the header template:)

Because it was designed to show only a certain amount of banners...

Just set the showable amount of banners higher;)

If you want a page system, I am sure I can code something next week:)

can just add the moderate option in banner list but only show it to

who have permission to moderate? that will be easy and fast to

moderated.and do not need goto admin cp....

for somereason it doesnt show more than 1 banner on my homepage now. 2 of the banners are broken links right now and it doesnt show broken images. im thinking that might be the reason. heres how it is right now:

3 banners, 2 are broken and 1 isnt. the 1 shows and the other 2 dont. Someone adds a affiliate link with a working banner. i moderate it and then the 1 that did work doesnt work anymore. whats wrong?

@Dark Draco - Sorry...I haven't got a clue as to what is wrong with it...

Have you tried installing version4?

If you have already installed it, re-apply the database queries, after dropping the existing tables...

Other than that, you can PM me the url to look at, and I will see if I can determine the problem:)

v5 Released!

vBaffiliates5 has been released!

This update allows vBaffiliates to work with register_globals off, and also has a little script-structure update:)
