Hello,

your antispam plugin is great help. THank you for it.
I would like to ask you if you can add one feature that im missing.

It is IP address banning.

I would like to be able to tick box to ban user IP along with deleting his account and posts.

That would allow more effective relieving of spammers.

Thank you

Hi everybody,
please can I know how to complete remove this plugin??
I have uninstalled it from my board but many people is still telling me that is not possible to register to the site (because the stopforumspam is blocking the registrations to the real users).
Normal names as "Claudio" or "Stephan" are blocked, so I want know if is possible how to completly remove this kind of ban.

Thanks in advance.

squidsk 30 Sep 2015 20:10

If you've uninstalled the product and removed all files then anybody getting blocked is not being blocked by this product. Since if there are no plugins running (because the product was uninstalled) and no residual files, there's nothing from the product left to be causing issues.

Thanks Squidisk.
Yes but do you know what can cause this.
I try to register a username "Claudio" and when I complete the registration page it come this message:

Spammers Block

Some people tell me that maybe can be the stopforumspan plugin.
Please do you know what can be and how to resolve?

Thanks in advance

And also...
if I search the phrase "Spammers Block"
I found this page... so it mean that "stopforumspam" is still on my site...

That isn't related to SoM for two reasons, one it is listed as belonging to the vbulletin product (Prodotto) and two it isn't in the product xml for SoM. Some thing else has put that phrase into your db, and something else is using it. You'll need to go over all your plugin code carefully to figure out what it is.

Hi Squidisk and thanks for your reply.
I really don't know what and where to search this...
Can you please give me some tips??

Alan_SP 02 Oct 2015 13:35

You need to check your product manager page to see all mods you have installed. Checking their names you'll see which ones are related with spam.

Downloaded and installed on 4.2.3. Working great. I can sleep through the night and not wake up to a heavily spam forum.
This is a relief at last. Thank you.

It is resource intensive. My IO cap on my hosting is 1024 and it bangs right up on the cap. It causes my hosting to warn me of this and the forum slows down dramatically.
It's a nice concept but it use way too many resources. I'm afraid it's got to go. I've got up some pretty tricky Q and A so we'll see how that goes.

Q and A won't stop spammers

Yes, I found it was using a lot of resources too, but if you look at the Spam-O-Matic log files, you can reduce the load by blocking IPs that regularly try to register anyway.

Among the ones that were hitting my site too much but being blocked by Spam-O-Matic were:
91.200.12.102
91.200.12.170
91.200.12.23
91.200.12.27
91.200.12.46
91.200.12.66
91.200.12.68
91.200.12.69
91.200.12.72
91.200.12.94

I had blocked these before discovering the association with the log files in glowhost, so check these too:
91.121.221.15
62.210.152.87
136.243.75.162
218.205.17.150
60.169.75.155
212.7.217.2
218.205.17.168
221.178.182.182
61.160.212.57
91.200.12.66
91.212.124.147
91.212.124.159
91.212.124.185
46.229.164.98
90.155.154.76
46.229.164.99
46.229.164.100
46.229.164.101
46.229.164.102

Spam-O-Matic stopped the forum spam, but it seems to cause a server load if you allowed the IPs to continue hitting.

rcull 06 Dec 2015 13:55

I am running Spam-O-Matic on VB 4.2.2. The newly registered are going into the "Newbies" group (usergroup #31). I have enabled Auto-Promotion, but they don't seem to be moving to the Registered Group (#2).

Newbies Manager: Put New User Into Newbies Group? Yes
Newbies Manager: Newbies Group ID 31
Newbies Manager: Auto-promote Users From Newbies To Trusted/Registered Users? Yes
Newbies Manager: Trusted/Registered Users Group ID 2
Newbies Manager: Promotion From Post Count 3

I am on a virtual server, is it possible that my host has something set that is interfering with it? Maybe they have something that stops the cron job?

I really don't have a need to keep new users in a reduced privileges group.

Thanks
