In your example, [url=something] should trigger a moderation provided you have:
[url ...in the bad words list. A user typing something.com would not trigger a moderation because you would need: something.com ...to be in the bad word list exactly written as you'd like to be moderated. There is no partial match support outside of the [url and [img tags |
Yea but the .com for example won't work if it were something.com
Can you update the mod to allow that, or disallow links (with or without url) for certain members / usergroups with less than X forum posts? Thanks |
Why not put {.com} in your bad word list then rebuild post cache to update all posts
|
I only want the list applied to users with 100 posts or less.

I have been running this program for a few days now, and it has stopped the posting problems. I have noticed one real interesting thing. I have a spammer which I have deleted at least 4 times with glowhost and he is still coming back! Why would that be? He is using the same I.P.. Why would he not be blocked after one, two, three, + deletions?
I would have thought that after using the Spam-o-matic deletion that I.P. should not be allowed to re register. He uses the same username and I.P. each time. NultAccunny 137.117.68.10 |
I can't believe it! Check the time on these posts! NultAccunny has already re registered!
|
Do you have spam-o-matic ban usernames enabled? I think it's disabled by default because of all the registration problems it causes with false positives.
ie - they can get a new IP faster than you can ban them enabling ban username should shut it down for this username - but it will be a major hassle for other new users trying to register Best thing would be to enable all new registrations to be approved by mod for a few days - and wait it out - maybe he'll get bored and ofc be sure to also install good timer-based-registration mod like Spambot Stopper https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=294633 |
Quote:
www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=268208 If that does not work try this and put @emailhost.com in the email banning section so if he uses hotmail it would be @hotmail.com and @hotmail.co.uk www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=294164 |
The use is using the same IP each time! That is what I don't understand, I would have thought the program would have submitted the IP as a spammer and not allowed that IP to be used on my site or any other.
I have the vbulletin email verification on. I may have to consider another vbulletin plug in to work with this one, but I don't like to have too many plugins installed because I have had problems and I have limited knowledge:( The nature of my site would allow me to simply ban all IPs from certain countries. By the way, he's back. He shows as registered, and leaves a signature. If he tries to post, spamomatic stops that. |

Set SOM to: Moderate post Ban User In vB don't allow duplicate e-mail addresses. If the IP is a bad IP then ban it in vB. You can also not allow signatures in vB under usergroup permissions. Then create a forum for banned users and don't delete the user, but move the post to that forum. You may keep the forum hidden in forum permissions if you like. |

I installed this program earlier this week, and I seem to have new members having a problem with the return key on their keyboard not working when posting. Makes for some long paragraphs!
Where should I look? Thanks |
I'm just a bit confused about the API key from stopforumspam.com and the one from Akismet. Do they do the same thing? Is one superior to the other?
The following quote makes it seem that both would be good: Spammers that make it past the StopForumSpam and Auto-Moderation will be checked against the Akismet service. In other words, are we duplicating a service that might add complexity and increase chance of conflicts? If we use both, are we significantly enhancing our spam barriers? Thanks. |

Akismet is more for blogs stopforumspam is for forums Akismet continues to monitor your site for comments placed on blogs, not really on forums. Stop Forum Spam is a list of spammers IP address, e-mail, and user names. It only works when a member is using registration on your site. |

Newbie Question - Do you have to register at stopforumspam for the API key to have user IP's and e-mail addresses checked by their database?
I have started a forum with your mod, but i don't have anyone listed for "Spammers Denied Registration". The GlowHost log on my site shows eveyone that has registered "Passed StopForumSpam checks. Sent to vBulletin Registration System." I have enabled IP Check andE-mail Check in the GlowHost Settings. In the short life of my forum, I have had to manually go through the posts that were auto moderated and it has resulted in: 140 Spammers Permanently Banned 332 Spammy Posts Automatically Moderated I compared my setting to another person running a forum, and i can't see any differences. I am running VB 4.2.0 and GlowHost 2.1.0. Could i have installed only part of the mod correctly to be able to moderate posts, but not have registrations checked? Thank you for your time. |
Today, I uninstalled and re-installed the mod and I am still getting the same results.
Everyone is being allowed to register, but their posts are being moderated. I am also running OpenCart on my website, so i know that cURL is running properly. Should I try "or allow_url_fopen enable in PHP settings"? If so, where would i find the PHP Settings to change this? Any suggestions? |

I download the file from page #179 in Post# 2684 I then replaced the admincp/glowhostspamomatic.php file with this one glowhostspamomatic.php |

I have set the mod to have SFS check IP and check e-mail addresses, but SOM has yet to deny a single registration. I have had over 40 new registrations since i re-installed the mod today (12 hours ago). 38 Spammers Permanently Banned 26 Spammy Posts Automatically Moderated I just checked one of the moderated posts on my forum and it was posted by: User Details: Username: nawfuscuncasy User ID Number: 451 User E-mail: [email protected] User Registration IP Address: 168.63.134.90 User IP Address for Selected Post: 168.63.134.90 I did a search on StopForumSpam and it shows: Found 236 entries for "168.63.134.90" The first 50 entries on the search show the same e-mail and IP address as the person registered on my forum. I would assume that this user should have been denied registration by SOM, but it wasn't... Any Suggestions? |

Some of my settings may differ from others, it depends mostly on the amount of security that you need. This is my one and only mod for stopping bad registration. The only other thing that I use is Solve Media but that is to help generate a little revenue! So spammers give it your best shot, I make money every time you try. This may be long, but maybe it will help others as well. I will not note everything because it is user preference. First Akismet is for Blogs: Enabled Post Count: 5 Enter your key Easy Cleanup: Yes Stop Forum Spam IP Check: Enabled User Name Check: Disabled (This setting may vary from user to user) Email Check: Enabled Desired Action: Log and Block Registration Query Connection Errors: This one may vary from user to user as well. If the SFS database is down or unable to retrieve records you have two options. I Allow registration even if it means I may have to both remove them, block the IP and or E-mail. Always do a search before you block an IP!! Remote Expiry: Another one that users may have set different. I have mine set to 30 but if you are having consistent a consistent problem you may want to set it higher. Just remember that if you do innocent people could have a problem being issued a dynamic address that a spammer used before them. SFS Key: Easy Clean Up: Yes I used the Newbies Manager group once but I currently have it disabled. It is a good feature to turn on if you are having persistent problems. You may read about it here: http://forums.glowhost.com/programmi...ager-2382.html I also currently have Auto Moderation Disabled. The next few I don't even use at the time being. They primarily have to do with the Newbies group. However, there are a few more options that I do have enabled, but the list is pretty long. See if your current settings are set up similar to mine. Maybe this will fix your issue. |
@Syxguns @apsrfbv4
Thank you for your responses. I don't have any other Mods installed on the forum. My website does have OpenCart running and a RapidSSL Certificate. I have checked through my settings>options>glowhost-spam-o-matic and they all were already using the same answers you recommended: Stop Forum Spam IP Check: Enabled User Name Check: Disabled Email Check: Enabled Desired Action: Log and Block Registration Query Connection Errors: Allow Registration Remote Expiry: 30 SFS Key: (I have not applied for one yet, will it check IP's/e-mail's without a key?) Easy Clean Up: Yes The only places that i differ from your description are: I do not have an Akismet Key I have Auto-Moderation "Enabled" I have checked my IP address and my e-mail address in the SFS search area, and neither come up with any results. I would assume that they would not be blocking e-mail and IP Checking from my forum. Could there be a setting that i accidentally changed somewhere in the forum that would not allow it to communicate or receive data from external websites? (ie. not allowing it to check with StopForumSpam..) Do i need to add the StopForumSpam website somewhere within the settings as a trusted source? Thank you for your time... |
On a test 4.2 server I tried registering the user with email [email protected]
and SOM stopped it with a "registration denied" message It doesn't have a key installed - so it does work/block without one (normally) One thing to check is the first option for SOM the GroupProtect IDs is this set for 5,6,7? Edit: then again if it is still moderating posts but not preventing signups it's probably not this setting - nm Could that user have registered on your forum before it was added to the SFS database? You can try doing a test register of a bad email address yourself -Since you don't want an email sent out for the test you can disable email temporarily on your server by adding this line to includes/config.php define('DISABLE_MAIL', 1); - Then pick an email address from the current SFS database and try registering with it to see if it is blocked - and remember to remove line to re-enable email after done testing :) Also if you have root on your server? You could capture a tcpdump during the signup and should see some traffic to www.stopforumspam.com with a "GET /api?email=xxx@xxx" and a "GET /api?ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" in it Or this may be easier to try from shell window on your server (without needing root):
and the reply back from SFS in the response.txt file should contain something like:

allow_url_fopen: On On cURL support: enabled |
@apsrfvb4
I checked in the CP--> Maintenance--> View PHP Info: allow_url_fopen: is showing On On cURL support: is showing enabled From your previous post, i checked with my domain host support (explained what i wanted to try) and they said that they don't have a shell window, or root access that i can use to try and test your other suggestions. I tried to register with an e-mail address (em***[email protected]) that is on the front page of SFS (Top e-mails submitted) and i was able to register on my forum. I checked the SOM Log Viewer and it shows: "em***[email protected] - Passed StopForumSpam checks. Sent to vBulletin Registration System." I have my forum set-up as a subdomain (forum.mydomain.com) , and I installed all of the files into a subdirectory (/forum) on my website, not the root directory. Would that make any difference with anything? Thank you for all of your suggestions. I hate to ask if you have any other ideas... |
other than try setting up a whole new test installation in something like forum2.mydomain.com
and see if can get it working. Without shell access it's tuff - might even want to find another provider especially if they don't have shell access themselves. |
@apsrfvb4
Thank you for all of your help. I will try a fresh install on another subdomain with a new database. Once i set it up, i will update this thread with my findings. |

A lot of legitimate users are trying to sign up but they are using the Contact Us link to tell me that they are being caught as spam and consequently unable to signup.
I'm not sure why this is actually happening when they are not spam? |

There's no reason you should have to edit PHP code. Try something simple and more effective, like this:

Hi guys,
Users have been reporting issues with registering and posting. They get the following error message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function SOM_Process() in /[.........]/forums/register.php(338) : eval()'d code on line 11 vbulletin support seems to think it is a plugin causing the issue and I narrowed it down to spam o matic. Can I fix this? |
the1rabbits,
Send me a PM with your URL and let me take a look at it. |
Has anyone tried to delete a user who has a blog post with this installed? I did, and I believe this plugin caused the entire blog section to self-destruct. Try it first.
|
i have very specific question,
would be possible to ask for feature to check emails against SFS via GHSOM even after registration ? (e.g. users not going thru normal vB registration system) e.g. for first N posts on the account , or/and accounts younger than X days ? thanks in advance for help |
is there a way i ca delete the already registered spammers and the ones waiting moderation ?

I installed the add-on and it was working great!
However, in past one month, my forum keeps getting posts from spammers! I didn't do any configuration change... Why is it not really working now? Any configuration I should try? |
Is there any way to get my hands on a 2.0.1 version?
I upgraded to 2.1 and have had troubles. |
My glowhostspamomatic_log and glowhostspamomatic_remotecache are taking too much space (75,601 records / 14.7 MB + 39,339 / 2.8). Is there any way to clean this up?
|
ADCP -> Logs -> Spam-O-Matic -> Prune Logs to __ days
I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that this will do all that you are asking. Please correct me if I'm wrong. |
Thanks! It worked for glowhostspamomatic_log but did nothing to glowhostspamomatic_remotecache.

hello,
At my moderation tools there's not spam-o-matic menu, how to enable it at the all thread by username moderation tools? https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/external/2013/04/17.jpg Thx |
I am using version 2.0.2 but can't see any list of the version history to know if its worth upgrading to the 2.1 version. Anyone know?
Also, if you are upgrading, what are the steps? It says uninstall if you are upgrading from version 1.x but doesn't mention what to do for 2.x upgrades. e.g. do you set it to Overwrite existing installation? Do you still upload all the files? Or uninstall first? |
Just upload and import with overwrite if you are upgrading from 2.x.
|
Thanks for that. All seems to be working ok.
|
How do I do a complete uninstallation?
|
edited for ignorance,.. found the fix in the posts before me,...
thanks |
Well so far:
I installed and opened registration (had it closed for months) and in 5 min 20 spammer accounts blocked...lol Good job! |
I'm getting the same thing, seemed to happen shortly after i upgraded to 2.10.
I'm running the latest spam-o-matic 2.10 on vb 4.1.7. Anyone got any ideas? The only suggestions on the internet is to disable spam-o-matic which isn't a great option. Thanks in advance!!! Quote:

SOLVED.
The function names are totally different between 2.1.0 and the previous version 2.0.2. I had installed the xml file for upgrade, but I had accidentally copied the wrong include files from the old version (2.0.2 instead of 2.1.0). As a result, the hooks were calling the updated function names that did not exist. Once I correctly copied the upload/* files from the correct version into vbulletin all was well. Hope this helps someone. Quote:
