Same ... actually when going to 4.2 is when this became an issue.

Is there any option in this mod that instead of denying registration, they goes in MODERATION so that I can check them myself if they are really spammer or not .. because denying registeration right away can deter lots of legit users. Also, generally people on dynamic IPs face problem as their IP gets blacklisted because once it was used by a spammer!

Our site has been flooded with new registrations from Vietnam recently, mostly using a @yahoo.com.vn email address. And they aren't blocked by Spam-O-Matic, unfortunately.

Any thoughts on how to block these spammers? Is it possible to block all registrants with @yahoo.com.vn addresses?

I have installed this great mod but it has false positive by denying legitimate user from registration.

In such situation how do i allow them to register?

I usually create an account for them myself in the ACP and send them the details. That only happens maybe once a month at the most so may be more difficult on much bigger forums.

This isn't working very well on my forums - spammers are still getting through. When I check their IP address with Stop Forum Spam, I see an IP that's been on there for a while - so what's up with that?

I'm having difficulty in importing the product. Getting invalid fire errors whether I specify the files I've uploaded to the server or used the local file location. It's got to be a simple thing I've overlooked. What would you suggest I try?

Oh, I found my error.

We have been getting a lot of users feedback that they cant register with username disabled.

Now I have disabled checking the IP address as well because what if the IP is false positive as in users could in from proxy server and etc.

Their username is being blocked as it is now in the list of your own tables. Best thing to do is remove the xml and reinstall it and disable username right away. You must leave email and ip enabled all the time.
Installing this mod will also help to stop spammers once installed set it to 20 secs you will understand once installed

Just a word of kudos and thanks for creating and supporting this app. We're not using all of the elements of this program, but what we are using is working well.

The log reporting is especially helpful as we start to rein-in this latest spam attack behavior we've been enjoying for the last couple of weeks. Our Mods might even get to sleep again at night!

It's supposed to be. I don't think you can just use someone else's API. And I'm not sure SFS would approve of posting it like that...

Is anyone willing to answer my question about why spam is still getting through and being posted? This thing doesn't seem to be working. Is it not compatible with the latest version of vbulletins or something? What's the deal?

How do I remove the Affiliate information? I believe that the affiliate program is no longer going on. If it is, the hyperlinks are invalid.

It's in your settings to turn this off...

No, there are no settings in AdminCP > Settings > Options > GlowHost - Spam-O-Matic that control the hyperlink "Join the GlowHost Affiliate Program and earn $125 per sign up." that appears in the screen shot. That, and as I said/asked, the affiliate program is defunct (?), so why advertise what isn't available?

Okay, AdminCP > Styles & Templates > Search in Templates > Search for Text: glowhost finds glowhostspamomatic_bsc which contains the code controlling the content of the image in the screen shot. I can edit this file to remove the hyperlink.

Maybe this is what, when I installed SOM today, then went to SFS to get a API Key I was met with a message: "API Keys not available for the time being due to abuse." Swell, just swell.

any api key from any site can be used on any other site. They just give out different ones for each site so spammers can be tracked but a api key can be used on as many sites as you want even if you don't own the key

Yes, and that option is set to Disabled. Note the comment for this option:

You can't get an affiliate key. The hyperlink url takes you to a non-existent site. I'd think that Spam-O-Matic would take care of this, as it's in their code for this MOD.

Possible to have auto-moderation issue immediate bans (along with stopping the post) instead of just putting posts into moderation/preventing posts?

Anyone else experiencing spammers getting through the system quite a lot in recent days?

We seen a large increase in the last 2-3 weeks, mostly spammers from Vietnam. For the first 1.5 years we had spam-o-matic installed, there were about 500 blocked registrations. In the last 3 weeks, that increased to almost 4000.

I'm getting hammered daily with dozens of spam registered with .vn emails and vn IP addresses. This is odd because I get no forum spam or other registration spam except VN which starts about 2-3 weeks ago.

It came to a point where I had to block all VN IP addresses globally at my firewall, now they're using some proxy IPs instead.

They register with scrambled names like "hkjkld16sd" and put other scrambled words in every profile field like "ksjcskcjk".

I also have registrations moderated first.

These are bots.

I am not sure if anyone else has had this issue (and we aren't 100% sure that it is this mod), but we think the auto-moderation option was crashing IE9 for a few of our users, or slowing down posting/editing times considerably.

I've disabled that option and am waiting to hear back; if we get confirmation that things are working as expected, I'll report back on the off-chance that it is this mod and it might help someone else!

I replied in your other thread. Make sure when you uploaded spamomatic that all files were uploaded. That error is saying that the functions_ghsom.php file is not in your includes directory. You can find the file in the spamomatic's download folder - sitting in the includes folder.

It appears this mod allows any Moderator to access the Spam-o-Matic inline features. Is there some way to change the permissions on this? I want my admins and Super Mods to be able to use this feature, but I do not want regular moderators using it. Some of our moderators only moderate one or two sections of our large forum and I don't like the idea of giving them full control over being able to just delete/ban any user at will.

Is there some setting or switch I'm missing that will allow me to pick and choose which usergroups or mods can use Spam-o-Matic?

Also, I am having an issue with a SuperMod being moved into moderation queue. I have a newbies usergroup, all newbies go there until they have 10 posts, and I have the setting set to ignore anyone who includes URLs or links after they get 10 posts.

Still, every time this Super Mod posts a thread with multiple URLs or IMG BB code, her post is moved into the moderation queue. She has way more than 10 posts. Is this something going on in Spam-O-Matic or is there another vBulletin setting that could be causing it? I have no other spam/moderation add-ons installed and I have vB's native spam management system disabled.

I think I found the issue. It seems our mod was putting her posts in moderation on purpose using the Unapprove Posts function in order to format/edit/proofread them before making them public. The one thing I didn't do before troubleshooting the issue yesterday was ask her about it directly. *headdesk*

I just upgraded to the latest version, and this version has the stats on the bottom of forum home.

Is there a way to make it so only Admins can see this? I don't really see a reason for anyone else to see this? Plus I like to keep my spam blocking secrets to myself and not let them know what it is they are working against.

Ever since updating from vB 3.8 to 4.X last week spam has been outta control for me even with Q&A verification. Going to be installing this tonight. Hopefully it does the trick!

I've installed and got everything configured. However when I registered a test account I get this at the end

The account gets registered but why the error?

there is no modules folder unless you renamed the admincp folder as the only navigation.php file is in the admincp folder
If you have not renamed the admincp folder then this problem is from a custom plugin or mod
Check Navigation Manager for errors also any error logs you have post them

i installed this a few days ago and seems to be working. I caught my first post, and tried to moderator it and got this error when i pressed on moderator threads in the admin cp

Do you actually have moderate.php file in the vapor folder in your forum root? Looks to me it's not in your forum root.

I have been helping manage a board(vb4) for a couple of years now. I have no background in programming and I "self taught" myself the admin control panel ( so please don't get too technical with responses!) We used to get over 200 spam posts a day and we narrowed it down to maybe 5 in 2 years when someone recommended SOM. GREAT PRODUCT! Now for about 2-3 months, we have noticed that there are about 20-30 a day that are getting past registration. I know the SOM is still working because it is rejecting around 120- 150 a day, but is there something that needs to be updated to get back to no spam like we previously were?

We do use re-captcha, email verification and our spammers are placed under moderation, but we are concerned about the number of bogus registrations rising now

Like I said earlier, no programming experience here, I only know enought to slide by. I was looking at our installation (done by someone else) and I only see Askimet API key I do not see StopForumSpam API Key set. Would we benefit by doing this?

You would be best to have the StopForumSpam API Key also did you update the functions_ghsom.php and try this program

How do I add an exception? I have someone who has been trying to register for days and gets denied each time. Is there a way to create a one time exception?

That's because the name he is using is now in the db you will need to uninstall the xml and reinstall it then it will work making sure you disable the username right after you install it again

My memory is a little fuzzy. I'm pretty sure there was a feature in this mod that allowed you to ban directly from a user's profile in the admin panel. Sometimes it's painfully obvious that a user is a actually a spam account and there's no need to wait for them to start posting to submit them.

So, if I'm remembering correctly and this was a feature in this particular mod, it'd be awesome if it returned. If I'm confusing this with a feature that was in another mod, I think it'd be a good feature to include in this one. We get hit with a lot (a lot) of spam registrations and so we like to stay on top of these things.
