That is a server issue.

MySQL is trying to tell you that it doesn’t have enough room to store all of the row locks that it would need to execute your query. The only way to fix it for sure is to adjust innodb_buffer_pool_size and restart MySQL. By default, this is set to only 8MB, which is too small for anyone who is using InnoDB to do anything.

SPEEDKILLZ 23 Jan 2014 04:41

Ok i have ran this mod on all my boards 4.2.1 and below. So i installed on my 4.2.2 board. Everything seemed to work nice so i created a new account to test it. Well when creating an account i noticed after you select agree and submit that it just loads and loads and loads it dosen't stop until you hit stop or refresh then you can go back to the forum and log in. I did this a few times and every time was the same. Then i disabled the mod to check and it goes perfect. Mod is still currently disabled. Waiting on a fix.

There's no "fix." It is not uncommon for this Mod to block legitimate would-be users.

First, you have no api keys put in place. 2nd most settings needed you are not using them, so not much point in you using this mod if you are going to keep the settings the way they are. I don't see this mod causing your problems could be another one messing with it. Try turning this one on then disable each one at a time then try to register until you find the problem one. If you are still having the same problem with this mod then maybe a reinstall and changing the settings. If you need help setting them up pm me.

Remember that you can't install 4 anti-virus programs to your pc without conflicts, the same can be said about modification to your forum i.e. you must check them as you go etc.

See my article here: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=276547

Note at the very top I marked some of the most commonly installed mods with blue *'s indicating that they should NOT be installed together.

I believe Force is correct, you have another modification interfering/conflicting with this one so follow his suggestions and turn off eahc mod one-by-one checking the ability to register is fully functional again. Check my list, if you have two installed with a blue asterix try disabling the other and re-enabling Glowhost to confirm.

Thanks Superman but this is my oven anti-spam program installed. I have disabled mods 1 by 1 to test and all have the same outcome. I have also done things such as use 2 wrong passwords, mismatch emails, wrong string of capcha when registering and it quickly catches and tells the error. but when everything is alright is to loads and loads

Anyone else?

Cache and cookies on your computer? and flushed on server you mean in acp?

I have a few times. Like i said it only does this when mod is enabled

SPEEDKILLZ 28 Jan 2014 01:12

ok so after some messing around i found it only does this when either of
StopForumSpam: IP Check
and
StopForumSpam: Email Check are enabled

when these are disabled all is well. So what would be causing this?

You probably have a host, IP and/or email that has been identified as spammy in the past, and when SoM checks the definitions, it doesn't like you.

Refer back to what I said earlier.

I've noticed on my forum with this mod installed the "Auto-Moderation URL count" seems to ignore "https" links and allows them to be posted whereas if it was a regular "http" link it would have been sent to Moderation

Is this normal for this mod?

ForceHSS 29 Jan 2014 17:49

Because https are secure

squidsk 29 Jan 2014 18:58

That doesn't indicate it isn't spam.

ForceHSS 29 Jan 2014 20:00

I never said it did but its the way the mod is set up. I have always said this mod needs an update

vbresults 29 Jan 2014 20:30

The most simple spambots out there probably can't use SSL certificates but that alone is not a good indicator of whether or not the comment is spam. Very creative idea though, never thought of that.

Nook_Neformat 31 Jan 2014 16:48

Is it possible to block post if it has email in it and not just url? It will be very helpful to my forum.

Newbies permission block
by rcull
13 Feb 2014 18:02

For some reason, newbies no longer have permission to view most of my site:

www.carscene.ca
log in with
username: newbie
password: password
-click the LOGO for the front page.

I am running VB4
I checked group and spam o matic permissions again another site which seems to be operating appropriately.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

ForceHSS 13 Feb 2014 18:17

Checked it, I can see it all but you do have two classified links one is blank the other one is ok

rcull 13 Feb 2014 18:48

Yes, I just noticed the classifieds thing. I was having a look at "Panjo" but it is gone now.

I don't know why you saw everything
Please clicking on the LOGO for the front page. I notice that when newbie is a newbie group member the "Articles" tab is missing. "newbies" was created months ago, and may or may not have had this problem for some time. I have just created another new group which seems to be sharing this problem, so it is probably not related to spam o matic, but I appreciate any direction.

I am taking a member, "newbie", and logging in as him. When he is in the "newbie" group, I have a permission problem. I move him to "registered" and there is no problem. I move him to the new "Gold" group and have the permission problem then to "registered" and all is well.

I have deleted the "Gold" group, but the problem persists.

Thanks,
Bob

ForceHSS 13 Feb 2014 19:05

Yes Articles tab is missing you need to set that permission for them

Barcham 16 Feb 2014 23:02

I've been getting a bunch of new members registering lately with a youtube sales video as their profile homepage. I don't have to worry about them spamming the board as they never bother going through the basic email verification. I've installed this to see if it makes any difference with these spammers registering. Fingers crossed! :D

nxtgen 16 Feb 2014 23:28

IT has stopped some users but alot still get across but they never make it past the email verify

CharlieDelta 17 Feb 2014 13:38

Be careful as that is a common tactic. They will verify their email at a later date and then spam the board.

Barcham 17 Feb 2014 13:42

I'm not worried about tactics like those. I have a very specialized board and not the type of place where people will be registering as a member from the Middle East or Russia. It's also not the kind of board that attracts people who post detailed bios in their profile with all their personal interests. They are easy to spot when they register and simple for me to block manually if necessary.

Barcham 17 Feb 2014 15:33

Well I'm not worried about spammers but I did have to de-activate this mod. Everything seemed to work well after installing it but this morning I discovered that I could not make a post on the board. When clicking 'submit post' I received a popup asking me if I wanted to leave the page and when I clicked yes, it brought me to an error page. I had the same error page when clicking on Preview Post.

After I de-activated it, everything went back to normal. Unfortunately I didn't take a screen shot of the error page or copy the error down. For now, it will stay de-activated and I'll worry about it at a later date.

wenn ich die "vblang-glowhostspamomatic-210_de.xml" also die deutsche Sprachdatei hochladen will kommt der Fehler von vB "Datei nicht gültig"
Was kann ich machen damit das Add.on in deutsch angezeigt wird ??

Spam-O-Matic not stopping IP listed at Stop Forum Spam
by Stephen Best
07 Mar 2014 21:14

My understanding is that Spam-O-Matic uses the Stop Forum Spam database to filter out known spammers. However, while it seems to catch many bad IP addresses listed at Stop Forum Spam, many are still getting past Spam-O-Matic. Why is that the case, and is there anything to be done about it?

Barcham 14 Mar 2014 15:09

If the spammers are registering on your board, the best option is to block them from registering in the first place. The best way to do that is to install the tools mentioned in the post Ozzy47 linked to. I am currently blocking well over 25 per day using these mods and not one has gotten through to register since they were installed.

lazytown 19 Mar 2014 16:51

All of the sudden everyone is getting through even though their IP IS listed on stopforumspam. Any idea why? The logs show they "Passed StopForumSpam checks." does anyone know what the log would show it was unable to connect to stopforumspam?

It does that sometimes dont know why but i have other things in place when it does fail

rhody401 20 Mar 2014 11:30

Maybe stopforumspam.com was briefly down. That does happen, and there are settings in this add on for how to handle it.

edgeless 23 Mar 2014 14:09

I installed Spam-O-Matic a few days ago. For some reason its logging behavior has been intermittent. So far, I've only seen one log instance of "Passed StopForumSpam checks. Sent to vBulletin Registration System" - despite that several new members have joined who are not spammers/spambots. I'm unsure why it seems to miss logging most new registrations. It has, however, been blocking and logging some spambots at least. But I don't think all of its actual blocking events are appearing in the logs, either.

I wish Spam-O-Matic were more dependable/consistent as far as logging goes (so I could see what it's actually doing and not doing). Thankfully its inconsistency is not a major issue for us... because we use it in conjunction with our manual IP blocking technique, together with a few human verification questions. The combination of these things, along with an occasional manual deletion here and there, tend to keep out 100% of the spammers for us.

catsma_97504 31 Mar 2014 19:50

Are there plans to create an upgraded version to work with vBulletin 5.x? I love this mod but recently upgraded my forum and now it isn't available to me :(

CMS Moderation Widget
by rcull
06 Apr 2014 18:44

I would like to find a CMS widget which would work with GlowHost which would load when a moderator came onto the forum and tell him that there are posts to be moderated. Maybe there is already one somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks

rrhill 17 Apr 2014 09:56

"This is without a doubt, one of the most important mods that you will be using on your forum."

This is hundred percent true. In a few weeks GlowHost blocked more than 200 known spammers!

Thank you very much for designing and maintaining this software.

Because there is no one "magic bullet" to use fighting spam. Go to the link in my sig.

squidsk 30 Apr 2014 15:48

There's two glaring bugs in SoM.

1) If you have "permanently delete" enabled in options it allows anyone, with SoM access, to permanently delete posts even if they do not have the physically delete post or mass prune thread permissions. This is a huge issue.

2) If a member is past the point of SoM monitoring then SoM at the least should put a warning that you are trying to apply SoM, preferable it should just fail, to a member who is past the monitoring phase, before it deletes all the members posts/threads/etc.

You can prune the logs. Make yourself a superadmin from the config then you will see the option

I found a way people get around the link moderation aspect of this mod. I am talking about the settings for the alot of posts a person must make before posting links. Until they get that amount their posts with links go to moderation.

I do not want to post here to give spammers the info but if anyone has seen this as well and has a fix let me know.

Thanks,
Rich

I've only seen it bypassed occasionally and wrote it off as a fluke.
Are you saying there is a way to always bypass it?

RichieBoy67 21 May 2014 19:04

Yes.

I've already contacted the devs and they are looking into it. It is not a major issue though as of yet as few know of it. I have tested though on 2 sites to verify.

Also, it is not an issue that will allow a known spammer to register or anything. it is an issue that would require a person to get through the registration process. I am sure it is not much of an issue yet.

I'm going to add blog protection to Spam Hammer soon, but I don't think there are any mods here that do that yet. Have you noticed this with the vB CMS as well?

highlander29 29 Jun 2014 22:56

The spammers seem to have found a way around this. They are getting through and creating blog entries on my site.

Create a new group and deny that group blog posting privileges until they reach x number of legitimate posts in your regular forums. You can set this up through SOM or admincp and user group promotions.

I still get hundreds of spam bots registered each day even with this plugin installed... Guessing the IP lookup doesn't work?

ozzy47 08 Jul 2014 17:29

Check out the link in my signature.

I have 4 bots that registered from the same IP which is 173.208.204.10 StopForumSpam.com has this IP listed as a spam bot however it seems the glow-host is still allowing it to register.

install this as well

I seem to have figured it out. my expiry was set to the default 30 days and after researching that IP. they were last reported about 50 days ago. I increased my expiry time.

Would also be cool to see in the logs ones that registered because the entry in stopforumspam.com was expired.

ForceHSS 10 Jul 2014 00:02

mine is set to 90 days

markoroots 11 Jul 2014 10:53

Block it in acp-setting-ban options
make a range of ip like this

173.208.204.

or put in the list of "banned email address" downside a part of his email. ;)
:)

Also this is a great solution.
Give them the same privilages of a normal user group or something less and create a group if you don't just have "members awaiting moderation"
give to this group a promotion of 1 post to enter in the normal users

then in the "members awaiting moderation"
you will found there many spammers where you can immediately check. ;)

Don't forget to make this group moderated...
Like this first spammers you see you report it to the black lists by banning it with this great mod. ;)

Disabling all plugins except this one keeps the malicious script running, while disabling this plugin disables that malicious script. Still trying to hunt down where the script is exactly, but besides that, they were able to upload MySQL Dumper to dump my two DB's.

I have reported this to the higher ups, someone may contact you to further explain your findings.

If you can confirm am exploit in this mod please use the "Report Post" icon and tell us where. I caution others not to worry prematurely. If an exploit is confirmed we will quarantine the mod and you will get notice.

Knight0319 14 Jul 2014 03:20

Sadly, another one of my admins took it upon theirselves to remove the offending files/hooks that I had saved (Stupidly, I had not taken a backup). For now, I'll redact my original post unless I can recover those files/logs.
