Major Lite Features

Advanced Shout Control: You have the ability to post shouts, edit your shouts, PM shouts to other users, Ignore other users, insert /Me commands, insert smilies, Bbcode, change font, text colour etc.

Advanced Staff Control: Give your staff members customised permissions to allow them to do certain actions, on all or selected instances and chat rooms. Permissions include: Silencing users, banning users, editing user shouts, Creating/Editing "Sticky Notices", Pruning shouts and much more.

Resource Optimisation: vBShout implements an Advanced Optimisation Protocol to save your forum resources. Enabling this will further reduce the amount of resources consumed by the shoutbox. AOP was originally featured in Inferno vBShout, and DBTech vBShout takes it to the next level by ensuring that all your chats are always up-to-date without taking up needless amount of resources.

Customisable New Post / Thread Notifications: Allows you to make the shoutbox post when a new thread is created, or a new post is made. You can make this happen with all threads (Which will take user permissions into account) or only threads/posts from certain forums.

Shoutbox Tabs: New PM's or User Chat Rooms create Tabs. Tabs will highlight to let you know something new has happened, and you can even set them to make sounds to alert you.

Active Users Shout-bit: Shows the users active in the tab/instance you are, with the option to view everyone who can enter/exit the room at will (and thus see any shouts posted) in a pop-up to save resources. Perfect for seeing what's going on and who's around at a glance.

Context Menus: Many places now make use of context menus less having to remember /commands, one click access to the most useful and commonly used functions, and the ability for users to access their shoutbox settings directly from the shoutbox itself.

Custom Chat Rooms: Your users can now set up their own Chat-Tabs, where they get to set who can come and chat. Perfect for clubs, guilds etc. Admins can also create permanent Chat rooms for specific usergroups etc. perfect for a staff only chat room for instance, or to reward loyal members!

Custom Shoutbox Instances: Ever wanted a separate shoutbox just for your admin forum? Got a part of your board only for VIP members? Now you can set a shoutbox specific to those areas.

Shoutbox Sounds: You asked for it, we delivered. Customisable sounds now available on receiving shouts, Invites, PM's and more. (Requires QuickTime Plugin)

Archive: View all the shouts posted since the last pruning, Also shows you the top X shouters, a variety of interesting and useful shoutbox statistics, and allows you to search previous shouts.

Logging: Worried about staff members pruning the shoutbox to cover their tracks? Don't worry, with our advanced logging options, you can make sure a hard copy is kept of every action taken.

Revamped Thread / Reply Notices: Do you have a massive board with 100+ forums? With the revamped New Thread / Reply Notices page, you can edit exactly what forums show what notices in what instance all from one page.

Downloadable Shoutbox Archives: You and your shoutbox admins can download a complete dump of the Shoutbox' archive for all instances. With 3 supported formats (tab-delimited CSV, XML and TXT), there's something for everyone whether your purpose is review or programming.

Easy Shoutbox Notice Editing: You and usergroups with the "Can Set Sticky" permission can now edit the notice by double-clicking the Sticky in the shoutbox. Quickly fix typos or rapidly update with new turn of events, editing it is never more than two clicks away.

Shoutbox Report System: Members can now report offensive shouts by using the shout context menu. When a report has been submitted, those with the "Can Moderate Chat" permission will see how many reports need their attention via a new chat tab in the Shoutbox.

Easy User Infractions: The context menu also adds a quick link to infract users, for those who can access vBulletin's infraction system. This lets you quickly punish members who are overstepping your bounds.

Blog Integration: Give blogs a more prominent place on your forum by having the Shoutbox post notifications when someone posts a new blog or comments on a blog.

Professional Only benefits:

Personal User Shoutbox Options: Integrated with User CP, User gets to decide which things show on their shoutbox, PM's, notifications etc. Even what editor options show up for them. They also get to decide where their text input area goes for TOTAL customisation.

Ignore List: Allows users to keep track of who they are ignoring, and control this option via a list.

Custom Commands:
Lets you and your users create their own commands for use. For example, create pre-set warning comments Staff member types /firstwarning, Text appears saying "This is your first warning for breaking the shoutbox rules. You can view these rules at [link] If you have a question about this warning, please PM myself. Thanks.

Extra Tab Options:
The ability to set separate tabs for system notifications and notices is available in the PRO version, fantastic for keeping your chat tab uncluttered.

Detach Shoutbox: Lets you and your users have the shoutbox open in a seperate browser window/tab for easier use etc.

Additional Moderation Commands: The ability to add/edit the sticky notice through the shoutbox.

Advanced Archive Searching: Ability to search by any combination of username, Last X Hours, Start/End date, as well as keyword. Filter searches, sort by criteria etc.

Extended Instance Options: Allows you to have separate notices per instance, set usergroup settings for individual instances, and even set unique staff permissions for each individual instance.

Expanded Context Menus:
Lets your member/staff use the context menu to add/update the sticky note, Ban and Unban users, Ignore/Unignore users and prune individual user shouts.

Extra User Chat Room Moderation: Shows a page displaying every use-created chat room, who made it, how many active members/total members it has etc, and options to close it etc.

Nice hack thank you!

How much ressources does this hack need?

DragonByte Tech 26 Feb 2010 21:52

It depends on the size of your memberbase, and what kind of server you are running on.

There are options to scale the shoutbox depending on your server etc (you can increase/decrease the refresh time etc)

This should be the least resource intensive of any AJAX shoutbox though =)

Iain

Trek 26 Feb 2010 22:03

Using another shoutbox that I'm basically happy with now, but... I like features and this appears to have them. Gonna check this out. =)

DragonByte Tech 26 Feb 2010 22:07

Thanks Trek, We always aim to have as many features as possible, and update with any features our customers want/need =)

Iain

Trek 26 Feb 2010 22:11

One thing I noticed (from your site) that I'd like to see changed is so that all shout text is aligned with each other. So it's basically in a straight clean column.

Hornstar 26 Feb 2010 22:18

I had bought the last Inferno Pro, does that mean I get this one? coz I felt ripped off when the last one disappeared.

At least it is nice to see a decent shoutbox back for now.

DragonByte Tech 26 Feb 2010 22:21

That would require a table, and very long usernames would push the shouts way over, meaning they could look very crushed.

It's something we could probably add in future to the pro version if it was requested though, but not something we'd be making a default feature =)

Unfortunately no, this isn't the same company (Scot/Zero Tolerance isn't involved with this company.

It would be unfair to Fillip for him to have to pay for ZT's actions.

If you are a former Inferno Tech customer though, and you can supply me with proof of purchase on DBTech, i will give you a 25% discount (I just won't take my cut from those sales)

I hope that at least goes some way to mitigating what happened with I-Tech. Even though i was left in the lurch as much as (or more than) the customers, I would still like to try to make amends.

Iain

Kolbi 26 Feb 2010 22:47

Other placements would be nice :)

I briefly looked into that, but it appeared that vBulletin has gotten rid of a lot of useful template hooks :(

I'll have another look once things have calmed down some as far as updates and bugs are concerned, though :)

That's really weird, did you try Ctrl+F5? A different browser?

Fillip

pablete 26 Feb 2010 23:57

I use Mozilla, but i have users with IE and have the same problem...

DragonByte Tech 27 Feb 2010 00:17

Could you link me to your website please? I'll take a look and see if I can figure it out.

Fillip

tafreeh 27 Feb 2010 00:24

can you compare this liht version with pro version ?

DragonByte Tech 27 Feb 2010 00:27

We're not allowed to do that here, but there is a full comparison on our webpage =)

Iain

tafreeh 27 Feb 2010 00:32

i found pro feature list at ur page, but did not found the comparison chart.

DragonByte Tech 27 Feb 2010 00:41

Oops, sorry about that. Seems the seperated list wasn't posted. Should be fixed now =)

Hornstar 27 Feb 2010 02:10

I'll give the light version a go, and if my members are happy I may go for the pro with that 25% off offer (Just hope we don't get left in the dark again).

Hornstar 27 Feb 2010 02:26

This is what it looks like on my site:
http://www.buy-host.com/forums/shoutbox.jpg
or direct link: http://www.buy-host.com/forums/shoutbox.jpg

site: www.buy-host.com/forums

As you can see the box where you type in, is squished (I am on VB 4.0.2pl1 and using FF)

I would also like to know how to move that box so it is under neat the shouts instead of beside.

pablete 27 Feb 2010 02:31

the same problem that me.. ha ha ha ha.

Hornstar 27 Feb 2010 02:53

and when you type several comments, they are not contained within the shoutbox lol, they just keep going down over your forum content o_O

ssslippy 27 Feb 2010 05:30

I had this same issue it resolved itself but I believe its due to the local cache on the server side. Clear your server side cache and it may fix it.

Hornstar 27 Feb 2010 06:12

yeah gave that a try, didn't work yet.

I also noticed that my FireFox has been crashing when viewing dragonbyte site with the shoutbox or my site with the shoutbox on it. Maybe some kind of leak or something?

Fillip will check into your box squishy problem when he gets up, As for the FF problem, what version are you using?

I believe there may be an issue with 5.5.8 or something similar because of an issue in FF. Can you try updating to the latest version and see if you still have the problem?

In regards to the text input position, we plan on making it optional for left hand alignment, or bottom alignment in the next version =)

Iain

DragonByte Tech 27 Feb 2010 10:02

The squishy shoutbox issue has been identified, and a fix will be uploaded very soon, along with a fix for anyone who's having problems getting the shoutbox to show properly.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

As for the browser crashing issue, Firefox v3.5.x had major issues with JavaScript and Flash, and the JavaScript bugs could cause it to crash. I strongly recommend upgrading to 3.6 or newer, which seems to be free of these issues.
It's extremely difficult for me to fix this because I have no way of knowing what causes it, I can't read Firefox crash logs :P

GrossKopf 27 Feb 2010 10:43

Nevermind, been reading the other replies and see that there's a problem with it not displaying for some people. :)

Can I change the default color of the text? The box where you type is black with my forum style.

Also, with IE 7 (Have to use it at work - no choice), if I select the text color box, the color options show up at first, but when I go to click on a color, the box shrinks. I know that IE 7 is old and a fix isn't a priority, but I thought I'd mention it.

See the attachements to understand what I'm talking about.

*EDIT* Can we have an option to make different colors for each letter? Right now the color selection changes all the text? So we can have words like this.

I didn't even think of that D: My apologies.
For now, edit /dbtech/vbshout/includes/libs/shoutbox.php on line 1537.
This will be fixed in the next version, it should use the same default colour as the rest of the forum.

Does this also happen with the vBulletin colour picker in the postbit?

That's a bit difficult to do, if not impossible, considering a shout can have varying amounts of characters.

You need to also enable it in the Forum Manager for the forums you want to produce these notifications for.
I'll add a note about this.

Check your settings? Check to see the product is still installed? if nothing else, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Fillip

pablete 27 Feb 2010 13:45

Ok, thank's. already see it in forums manager.......

DragonByte Tech 27 Feb 2010 13:59

4.0.2 has been released, which attempts to fix the Colour Picker in IE7 as well as removing the default Text Colour in shouts.

Additionally, the first new feature has been added: The Shoutbox frame is now collapsible!

mandingo 27 Feb 2010 15:51

Looks good and works great on my site, thanks. I missed having the thread notifications in other boxes.

Hornstar 27 Feb 2010 21:24

How do you edit shouts? (ajax double clicking didn't work for me and I was hoping it would be that easy)

I noticed you can only prune all shouts. How about ajax delete 1 shout? or all shouts by a given user? or multi select shouts via archive?

Also in the admincp on the left where it has the vbshout - view banned users and command log, can you also add all other vbshout options and setting underneath the heading please. Makes it easier to find and manage.

Apart from that, just looking forward to being able to position where the text field is.

Thanks.

DragonByte Tech 27 Feb 2010 21:32

Hornstar, in regards to the one click editing, prune single shouts/ single user etc, those are Pro features.

As for the options, the best way to position them is something we plan on examining in future versions =)

Iain

Hornstar 27 Feb 2010 22:13

I just found out that the double click editing does work in the lite version, it brings the text back into the text area, then when you make the changes, it changes the previous edit. I like it.

I also have auto idle off, but I am being auto idled. I think it might be a bug.

Boko577 27 Feb 2010 23:25

I like it, but at the actual part where peoples' shouts show needs to be larger. I also recommend taking the extra space out at the top by the buttons. Above and below has too much empty space.

Boko577 27 Feb 2010 23:29

What's the difference between this one and the other Inferno? GLAD TO SEE THEM, but what's the difference? Which one is better?

Drago13 27 Feb 2010 23:50

I have the old inferno installed on my forums... It took me a while to get it working right with vB4. I would like the detached version though, ( that is one of the things that would not cooperate with vB4.) . Does the detach function work right with vB4 ? And how does this compare to the old version. Thanks

DragonByte Tech 28 Feb 2010 00:21

It's possible to adjust the height of the Shoutbox in the options.

Also, Inferno vBShout is not officially supported, this is its replacement of sorts. So, most features are going to be the same, except for various upgrades to modernise it :)

Boko577 28 Feb 2010 00:59

So which shoutbox will you guys be updating still? this one or the more original one.

PatrickBo 28 Feb 2010 01:46

WHOOO, been waiting a LONG time for a new VB Inferno shoutbox, even though it isn't Inferno anymore. I will likely buy the pro version of this as swell in the future. i instaleld it, but removed it until a possible update is made. Is there any template edit that i can make to put the text box under the shouts, not a fan of having it on the left side.

Also, had some issue with getting the shouts to display new ones on the bottom of the shoutbox, rather than the top. wouldn't work when i made the changes in setting.

If there is a template edit i can make, please let me know.

great work, glad to see it's back. fav shoutbox of all time ;)

ninjashoes 28 Feb 2010 02:00

When you have white font on a black background in your forum theres a problem(I changed the shoutbox background color to black so the default text color would show up).

When you change the color and try to change the text back to white you won't be able to see your text in the inptut box(if its still white) and if you make the input box black then anyone who enters a shout without changing the color first won't be able to see their shout show up since the background of the shoutbox where messages show up in black.

I hope that wasnt too confusing.

ninjashoes 28 Feb 2010 02:06

I think you should be able to change the color of the shoutbox around the message-box. Right now it inherits from blockrow I think? You should be able to set it in the control panel or at least in the template.

I also agree with the guy above who said he would like to see the input box beneath the message box. It feel kind of awkward right now.

Very excited to see this mod btw, thank you very much.

shadowla05 28 Feb 2010 02:23

how would i add like a sound every time a new shout has been enter?

Boko577 28 Feb 2010 07:56

Honestly, I miss the old Inferno Shout for vB3. Bring it back... Don't try and change what is already perfect! Just add more features to it...

Switching the textbox location is a planned feature :)
It will be included in the next update of the Pro version.

The box was put on the left hand side because it let users see their entire shout, even if it was longer.

Did you refresh the page after making the change?

I know exactly what you mean, but sadly the only way of solving that is to reset every user's style choices.
I'll add a quick button to do that in the Mod/AdminCP.

It does indeed inherit from blockrow, to make it follow the same standard as the rest of the forum.
Does this cause it to look funky on certain skin configurations? I was under the impression blockrow colour would look good in all configurations and flow seamlessly into the rest of the skin.
If you could provide examples of why this philosophy is wrong, please do :) I'll look into setting a colour override if so.

You would need to modify the JavaScript file or something, I have no idea, sorry :(

Different coder, different vBulletin version = different product :p
What's wrong with this one? Your feedback will help improve this version :)

Very glad to see your fast responses and your patience with some of the other members lol. Please keep us updated as to when the pro version includes the input box under the shoutbox, i will then reinstall the software.

DragonByte Tech 28 Feb 2010 13:40

We're not really allowed to post updates about the pro version here on vb.org, but if you register on our website, we can email you whenever new versions are released =)

Boko577 28 Feb 2010 22:40

Move the input box thing to the top or bottom, or let us choose between top, bottom, left, or right.

DragonByte Tech 02 Mar 2010 19:45

vBShout Lite 4.1 has been released. The biggest change is:

* Revamped Shoutbox deployment
It's now easier to add the Shoutbox to any page and any template.
One new automatic deployment location has also been added.

This lets you easily put the shoutbox on, for instance, the CMS page. You also have a greater control over where exactly the Shoutbox is located on each template.

Many of the requested features (including input bar at the bottom) have been added to Pro version 4.1. Details can be found on our website.

This update also brings the modification out of Beta status.

Enjoy!

Trek 02 Mar 2010 22:46

This is a sweet update BTW! Everyone should give it a shot. =)

steve1966 03 Mar 2010 06:56

thanks for the update this is the best shout

DragonByte Tech 03 Mar 2010 14:10

New version, changelog:
  • 4.1.1
    • Fixed Oldest First setting in IE, thanks to Deceptor.

flapjack 03 Mar 2010 21:52

Is there any way I can add this mod just to the vbcms main page? Not the actual content pages, but just the main one.

I think I've tried just about everything :p (including editing templates, etc)

That aside, excellent mod. Thank you very much. I'll be purchasing this next week :D

DragonByte Tech 03 Mar 2010 22:13

I'm not 100% sure how to do that, because of the way the CMS templates are set up. There's no specific "home page" template (like FORUMHOME is to forums).
You'd need to wrap the vBShout variable in some form of <vb:if condition="">

Fillip

PjDaBadMan 03 Mar 2010 22:43

i have installed everything but when i go to upload the xml. it gives me this message:

Either /home/patrick/public_html/dbtech/vbshout/install/core.php or /home/patrick/public_html/dbtech/vbshout/install/finalise.php is missing!

DragonByte Tech 03 Mar 2010 22:59

You didn't upload the files correctly, you must upload the contents of the forum folder, not the forum folder itself :)

Fillip

PjDaBadMan 03 Mar 2010 23:26

lol :) thanks i got it

PjDaBadMan 03 Mar 2010 23:29

ok wait... do you know how to set it so the donation bar so its not touching the shoutbox?

You can sign on to my site using this account, to see the SB
Username: tester
Password: 1234

http://gamingreaction.com/forum.php

Also, while your there. Is it possible to change the color? because when you look at the SB in the green and orange style you cant see the time and date.

DragonByte Tech 03 Mar 2010 23:54

Try adding <br /> to the top of the donation main template. Or the bottom of the vBShout main template.

If that doesn't work, then try adding
style="margin-top: 10px;"
to the top <div> of the Donation template.

Fillip

PjDaBadMan 03 Mar 2010 23:57

and the color?

PjDaBadMan 04 Mar 2010 00:11

is it possible to move the donation bar ontop of the SB?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you'd need to change execution order of some of the plugins.

Fillip

PjDaBadMan 04 Mar 2010 20:11

i still cant figure out how to change the location of the DB

DragonByte Tech 04 Mar 2010 21:11

You'd be best off asking the author of the Donation mod, I'm not entirely sure how the two mods' locations affect eachother.

Fillip

PjDaBadMan 04 Mar 2010 23:06

yea i asked in the thread but no reply yet..

sebil 05 Mar 2010 00:24

awesomee :)

DimOK 08 Mar 2010 21:56

When quickly hitting 'Enter' several times, message also got send several times, you better block in someway, so multiple enter hit won't lead to multiple messages... Or you might want to implement it server side, not adding messages which are similar to last posted...

DimOK 08 Mar 2010 22:03

Also, you can open several private rooms with same person, just clicking twice... it should be fixed too.

DragonByte Tech 08 Mar 2010 22:14

The first thing is related to the fact that you are a Shoutbox Manager, which does not have limitations on flooding.
The second issue sounds like a bug indeed, I'll look into it :) Thanks!

Hotfix:
Open clientscript/dbtech/vbshout/vbshout.js
Find:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Add below:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Be sure to always Ctrl+F5 when modifying JS files manually.
Thanks for this heads-up :)

DragonByte Tech 16 Mar 2010 21:20

v4.1.2 has just been released, which is a bugfix release.
  • The shoutbox will no longer cause screen flicker in Firefox 3.6.
  • It's no longer possible to open multiple PM tabs for the same user.
  • It should now be impossible to accidentally submit duplicate shouts.
  • Various database errors that appeared in rare scenarios have been fixed.

Fillip

DragonByte Tech 17 Mar 2010 11:13

Two small bugs appeared and have been fixed:
* You'll no longer receive a popup box when there's an error in the shoutbox
* IE display order is now fully fixed.

Re-upload files, re-import XML :)

GafferSports 17 Mar 2010 13:57

Your latest update is not style friendly and looks very poor on my main style

http://www.thesupporter.co.uk/forum/forum.php?styleid=9

I have even uninstalled the product and re-installed as I had removed the usergroup colouring previously and wondered if my coding may have been causing the problem, but to no avail.

DragonByte Tech 17 Mar 2010 14:05

Edit dbtech_vbshout.css, namely the background-color:rgb(255,255,255);

Whenever a mod doesn't look correct in a certain skin, you should always look at the CSS files first :)
It's very hard to make something look 100% good on all skins, especially since the StyleVars system is still relatively incomplete.

Fillip

DragonByte Tech 17 Mar 2010 14:15

In fact, try changing the relevant CSS to this:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Let me know if that looks OK for you (or anyone else who's using a Dark skin) :)
Thanks!

Fillip

DragonByte Tech 17 Mar 2010 14:25

I've updated the zip file with the above fix incorporated, for those who have this colour issue and don't feel like editing the CSS.

I believe this should work for the majority of cases.

Fillip

GafferSports 17 Mar 2010 14:37

I don't mind playing with the css at times but I wanted to let you know. However, that last fix looks good on my style, cheers.

DragonByte Tech 17 Mar 2010 14:48

Cool, glad it worked :)

I do apologise for these FUBARs, the vB4 style system is still new to most of us, and I was never design-inclined in the first place :p

Fillip

DragonByte Tech 17 Mar 2010 15:08

@GafferSports: I noticed the tabs didn't look correct on your site, so I've updated the XML file with the following CSS fixes:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

The changes are to the "top" variable, this time it should work on every skin regardless of their border settings :)

Fillip

bandare 17 Mar 2010 15:24

thanks very much. I've waited to add a shoutbox to my vb 4 hoping you would make a compatible version. Will install imminently. Thanks for all the hard work coding this.

Thanks Fillip

i have a coouple of issues with this.
firstly this mod is disabling my widget configure button - they are all dead with this running - work fine with it disabled!
secondly is it possible to change the text colour per style? The text is fine on my dark backgrounds but the one with a white box makes it invisible.
otherwise great mod

No, the user selected font colours are global.
It uses the same colour selector as vBulletin, so you can edit the editor_colors (or something similar) template to remove the text colours you don't want / add new ones for your members to use :)

Still can change the place of texbox area :( help please
