i added an antispam register to my forum found here

Since I posted earlier today, we decided to supplement with NoSpam! Image Enhancement (New version of No Spam! for Custom Image Verification) and will see how that goes.

In the meantime, I'll share information about AbyssGuard with the rest of the Admin Team to consider.

I installed this three weeks ago after one day coming on and having over 100 pending accounts most of which were spam, in those three weeks it has stopped 6987 Spammers which is an insane number, still though 20/30 are getting through per day but as I have members on approval then we catch them away.

Its a server setting, you would need to speak with your hosts or if you run your own server you would need to make sure these settings are available.

Question: Is it possible to check the current user database to see if users match the stopforumspam database? I have a forum with over 500,000 users and I'd like to check if there are spammers amongst them.

Hi everyone idk if anyone have already found a fix for this error about TYPE=MyISAM; '); line if not to fix it just open .xml file with notepad++ and remove all the TYPE=MyISAM; '); lines you can find it should look like this

remove only TYPE=MyISAM; '); leave the ) where it is then save and re-import the .xml and you will see that import will be a success :) just did that on my forum and import went through fine :P

P.S new problem doing that will not get tables created for some strange reason :/

Incidentally, it is probably a bad idea to remove the Type=MyISM as that creates the tables using the default table type that is set for mysql, this is not guaranteed to by MyISM. The better option is to change Type=MyISM to Engine=MyISM as this removes the error and preserves the table type as the author intended.

After installing Spam-O-Matic I found that I couldn't post new threads or replies on my board.

Goes to a HTTP 500 Error.

Found that by disabling the items below I can then post OK.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

I installed this last night, and already everyone on the board is impressed with it! Good job!

I installed this plugin and added a bunch of bad words that are being blocked successfully.

However when a user enters the bad words in the title of a new post (and not in the body) the plugin does not block that post.

Is this inline with everybody elses experience? Is there any way so that the bad word block also applied to the titles?

Also; do you need to go to a specific post and click Glowhost, or can I just "delete posts as spam" right from the main forum page?

clicking glowhost sends it to there db and in turn builds it up so it stops more spammers. Disable username so you dont get the false positives

I also don't get any Glowhost details in the Statistics and I'm set as a SuperAdmin.

Tried upgrading Vbulletin to the latest version and uninstalling Spam-O-Matic then re-installing but no luck.

On a plus note I've had no spammers register (that I know of) in the past 24 hours.

spammers are not going to contantly register on your sites 24/7

i get hit 2 maybe 3 a week, sometimes 7 in 1 day

I'm having an issue that shows glowhostspamomatic_stats table cannot be found. Error Number : 1146

I've checked the phpmyadmin and I don't see any glowhostspamomatic table either. I've uninstalled and re-installed it but no joy.

I think this might be blocking way to much. A lot of members that want to come in to apply for our clan seems to be getting banned or moderated also. Anyone know what the settings need to be so it's not banning or moderating everything?

First do NOT check usernames. That will help a lot. You may still have a few that are blocked because they use a proxy. If the proxy IP is registered with stop forum spam, then your user will need to register with their standard IP address. Not having usernames selected should help.

Turn off auto moderation if you do not want posts to be moderated.:up:

For some reason newly registered users are not put in the Newbie usergroup. So they are not being moderated. Any suggestion why this may be happening?

I've installed the MOD as per the instructions in the first post here.

Checked that the allow_url_fopen is active by uploading an info.php file and running this and it says its enabled.

Get the SPAM-O-MATIC option in "Control Panel, Settings, Options" and also in the Plug In manager.

No option listed under "Statistics & Logs"

There is a Stats option shown on the forum page above the Who's Online but no stats listed.

At this point no one can post new threads (goes to a HTTP 500 Error) or replies unless I disable:

GlowHost - Spam-O-Matic: Replies Control postdata_presave
GlowHost - Spam-O-Matic: AKISMET SPAM filter newpost_process
GlowHost - Spam-O-Matic: First Post/Thread Control threadfpdata_presave

Then noticed that no one could register (HTTP 500 error) unless I disabled these options too.

Don't know what else to do at this point.

One thing I was thinking it maybe could be is that the AdminCP & ModCP folders are renamed to something else on my board.

Maybe this could be something to do with it?

It's really just new registrations I'm bothered about as the forum is just used for downloading service support items, happy to moderate each registration but it would be good if the spammers were all just sent to where they belong.

Seems to have done the trick, now have Glowhost in the Status & Logs and I can post with it running.

I just wanted to ask something about this fantastic mod.

On my forum we allow unregistered guests to post in certain forums. (It uses a captcha system) and I do believe this mod is responsible for catching those spam attempts, and auto deleting them. (Even tho they are NOT registering or attempting to)

Every once in awhile we get a legit message that goes to moderation (as I want it to) but the 100's of others (all spam) never make it to moderation and are deleted automatically.

The footer stats in the WGO box indicate that:

392 Spammers Denied Registration
959 Spammy Posts Automatically Moderated

create a copy of Registered User, give slightly less permissions
then if there legit move them to registered users

spammers are using blog posts, so i suggest a newbie group with blog posting turned off

I have the plugin installed and set up with keys from both Akismet and Stopforum. I believe the plugin is working because I see 3 new accounts to moderate in the admincp (even though I don't have moderate users enabled in vb settings).

I don't see the stats showing up in the forums though when I look at the footer. Also, I put the "Give thanks" in the copyright, but I don't see it ( I also tried footer)....and I really want to get that in their to give thanks!

AFAIK, it's not possible in the AdminCP to make a usergroup that bans BB code, much as I really wish I could! It's a forum-wide setting only.
So, how can I do this?

Those are bots, either from a botnet or spoofing addresses and IPs that are not in the database.

Add the Spammers suck! mod - it will work in tandem with SFS to stop bots even when they're not yet in the database.

When the spammer's post gets moderated, it's not showing in the regular moderation queue. Does it send it to another queue that I don't know about?

I see that legitimate registrations are being blocked by Spam-O-Matic.

I want to undo a few actions that Spam-O-Matic has taken (I see the log and want to allow some registrations that have been blocked)

I installed spam o matic but often I find a boot with ip registered on the forums and the emails stop spam on forum.com

- I uploaded the files in the upload folder
- I installed the plugin
- I configured the options
- I put the API to stop spam forum

Is anyone else noticing people getting through with IPs that are listed in stopforumspam.com? I've noticed it quite a bit lately on a couple different vB sites w/ this mod installed..

I have it set to block if it can't reach the stopforumspam site..

which API are you using ?
and are you aware that they migrated their API to a new location that you need to change in the php file

I believe even if it is in the database, if it is old (like 180 days, not sure what the length of time is), it will no longer block that ip.

I did not know that - i'm just using the default settings that it had when I installed it.. is the updated code in this thread somewhere?

Ok - as an update..

I remembered about the logs that it provides, so I looked through there - I had a total of 80 registration attempts on one of my sites today.. of that 80, it let 4 through.

The 4 were from the same IP address, which is in the stopforumspam.com database 57 times so far..

My API code currently does point to www.stopforumspam.com and not api.stopforumspam.com but because of the 76 blocks today it seems to be contacting the server fine..

I did just change the code to what you have pasted above and will see how it goes over the next couple days..

How does the newbie filter work if you have Email Activation enabled on vBulletin?

Because Email Activation puts them into a group awaiting Email activation, while Glow Host is trying to put them into the Newbies group.

Normally this wouldn't be a problem. Most people immediately go and activate.

But with Spam Bots, they register, never activate by email, and since GlowHost puts the user into a group which has posting privileges, they are able to post on the forum without activating.

This is where the problem arises.

If this is in fact a bug, or oversight, the solution would be for GlowHost to *wait* until they have moved out of the "Awaiting Email Activation" group before considering them a new registrant.

As it stands, it immediately considers them an activated registrant.
