DownloadsII

DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Minatica.be Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

Jelle
  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at vB.com (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

It took me a little while to figure out what all the extra settings are- how to add additional extensions without getting errors, etc. It would be great if the mods area of vb would have a "wiki" spot for adding usability notes for mods. Lots of times it seems the developers/coders overlook the basics of their mods because they're so familiar with how everything works, that it seems like second nature to them. However, when people like myself download them, we often spend hours trying to get the settings to work.

Tips & Hints for using the Extensions on this mod:
  • when adding the new extension do NOT add a . before the extension or it won't work. Example: instead of .pdf use just pdf
  • although it says to use Lowercase only, if you want to accept JPG files, you can add a JPG extension and it will work fine.
  • Although it doesn't state it, you can leave max width & max height blank if you don't want limits on display size
If you're trying to add images and you don't see an upload box in the downloads form:
  • Make sure you have permissions set correctly in the Usergroups As well as in the main settings of the downloadsII in admincp.
  • If you're sure you have permissions set correctly- please note that you will NOT see the box until AFTER you've already uploaded your file. Once your file is uploaded the box will appear allowing you to add your thumbnail image.
If you're trying to add images and you receive an error - but it doesn't List anything!:
  • Double check the extension of the image file you are uploading. Does it end in the currently acceptable formats of ( jpg| jpe | jpeg | gif | png )?
  • Are you sure that the extension of your image is written in Lowercase? If it's listed as yourimage.JPG it will be denied unless you add an extension.
To add an extension go to AdminCp> DownloadsII> Extensions> add new extension

Hope these tips help someone out.

Hi all
I have one question...
in the old versions of this mod (for vb 3.8.x) all uploaded files are stored in the same directory /downloads/all_files_here
one simple example:
Forum for users, who likes share files
users on forum - 100.000
1 user uploaded 100 files
100000 * 100 = 10,000.000 (ten million) files in one directory?
it's crazy

one more example:
all files in this mod, stored with actual filename (+ some rand_value), right?
what about files with filenames in other language (non latin simbols)?
this files will be stored in file system (at least in linux FS) like this => .zip
===

ok, what about this version? for vb 4.x ?

I'm asking for a fix since months. I even offered to pay for it but no luck. Its the same for any 4.x version.

We should be able to, at least, choose the add a link for the image files like for the files.

in my own file manager im use storge system, like vbulletin
path/to/uploads/u/s/e/r/i/d/fileID_TIMENOW.dlfile
or archived version files (multiversions of one file):
path/to/uploads/YEAR/MONTH/DAY/fileID_date_archived.dlfile
this vbulletin system work perfect and no need more
and it's simple

Is there a way to calculate size better? Because the size projected on the site differs from the real size in MB's.

Is there somehow a way to change that formula?
