Thanks everyone for making AME 2.5 Mod of the Month

AME is the multi award winning modification that smartly scans new and edited posts for URLs from a customisable variety of web sites (i.e. YouTube or Amazon or about 200 others). If it finds a match, AME will 'transform' the URL into inline embedded media without your users ever having to even think about it.

It was important for me to create a system that did not need updating (and subsequent reinstalling) every time one of the sites it supported decided to change the way it displayed its media (which is all the fricken time). Therefore I built a system in which the 'definitions' for each site could be imported, exported, tweaked and shared on a whim. This way, you only have to import the definitions that you want. It also allows the vB community to get creative and share definitions that I wouldn't of thought of!

Which sites are supported?

Included in the default installation is YouTube and Amazon. At time of posting this, I believe that there are over 180 sites supported that have been created by the vBulletin community. These range from sites that stream videos to Amazon referral links to locally hosted music and video files.

Though not tested on any version of vBulletin lower than 3.7.4, in theory it should work on versions 3.5 and higher (just dont quote this bit!).

Installation/Upgrade
  • Upload the contents of the forums folder into your forums directory and import the product-ame.xml file into your product manager (if upgrading, choose 'yes' to overwrite previous installation).
  • After installation, make sure that the system is on (admincp->AME CP->Settings)
  • Then you may want to try to rebuild old URLs via the tools option.

Same here....and it was working after i did upgrade last week. but now the existing ones don't work...neither do new ones....

Sorry i posted this in the wrong version...i am using the vb4 version...and it quit working

support for non ANSI-Characters

AME is a great mod, it really is.
We keep having issues with media and also for amazon links, where umlaute are not embedded correctly:
e.g. this link

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)   
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

will not be recognized by AME.
or
Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)   
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

will translate into

Is there any way to fix this?

Try the definitions from my Add-On for Amazon. I don't think the default ones are up to date anymore. At least for the first problem. I think if you do a search in this thread for ASCII, you will find someone who was able to get the character thing working by editing an AME file.

Thanks for your reply

It seems to be working with vbulletin 3.6.8, but only with a few websites (unless i did something wrong)

I installed this mod and i imported the "master" XML from here:

I tested with megavideo and dailymotion and it doesn't work, but youtube video and playlists are working... i don't understand!

Thanks for the fast help. the new definition helped with the %C3 urls. But I still have no solution for umlaute in titles. I did not find the post you mentioned about ASCII

None of the URL from megavideo or dailymotion seems to be working...

No? Maybe it's in the AME 2.0 thread. I know I tried it recently and was able to correct the problem on my site, although, it was language specific. Also, try searching one of my last two definitions threads. I know it's here somewhere.

I am having trouble showing youtube videos. It always worked, but then just stopped, it shows the link but no picture.

When you arrow over the pic, it says "external embedding not available"

I installed the latest version and also installed the latest definitions.

I also deleted the previous youtube def and imported the latest from the 2.5 link.

Hi,

How do I get this script to automatically add youtube videos to my forum in widescreen? It seems to just add them in standard size although the video on youtube is actually widescreen.

Can anybody help?
