WMail - a POP3/SMTP Webmailer for vBulletin
![]() Developer Last Online: Apr 2014 ![]() ![]() ![]() This modification is in the archives.
What is this?
--------------- WMail is a "webmail client" - a front end, like a mail tool installed locally on your PC, for using POP3/SMTP mailboxes. In short: WMail adds POP3/SMTP access to vBulletin. A live demo can currentliy be found on my testing board here: http://vbdev.area-42.net/wmail.php Key features:
Planned features:
Installation -------------- Level : EASY Duration : a minute or so Files to upload : yes (11) Products to import : yes (1) Templates to edit : usually none ChangeLog =========== 1.00 - first final release
The login details are only base64 encoded when stored in the database. A more secure encryption would make no sense anyway, the login details must be decrypted to be passed to the POP3/SMTP server - one well placed line of additional code in the POP3 or SMTP class could save the decrypted info anywhere the admin likes. This "encoding" is only meant to prevent login details to be read (in plaintext) when doing maintanance to the database and stepping over it. For fully securing the login details the "Save in cookie" option has been added. Known Issues:

1) It appears to be working fine, although it is very down and dirty. If you want it to look great, then you need to do a lot of work on it. On 3.6.8PL2, I don't have any admin hash mismatch errors. Then again, maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
2) Not really. Because of the lack of features (like folders/filters) and the lack of the catchall address functionality it's less intensive than something else like vbms. The only way I can see it being intensive is if you had it checking for e-mails on every page you view (like an e-mail notification underneath the PM notification). No members have liked this post.

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong and got this working. This is an asweome hack. I would like to see some more explaination on what "SMTP Auth Type" is for in regards to LOGIN, PLAIN, NONE. I do not understand these and these are also in the users settings too.

Login will hash out some values, and log into the SMTP server before allowing mail to be sent.
Plain won't encrypt the login information. None means that the server does not require login before sending e-mail. Most servers don't support this these days because without approving logins spam gets sent out like crazy from your machine. No members have liked this post.

I think the problem is that you have to manually set the pop settings after you install it - and you have to use the right settings. A lot of people don't know what to do with the login options, make sure you are inputting your information correctly.

This is working decently on 3.8 for me. I'm sorry if it's been asked, but what would be the best way to add 'Mail Count: #' under Private Messages on the navbar throughout the site. I messed with it for a little but could only get it to load the # while on wmail.php. Thanks.

Wow, would you believe it, I took a chance and installed this on 3.8.5 and it's working absolutely perfectly. Well almost, just one problem, it doesn't display html emails, so if someone sends an email from gmail, even though it just contains text, the message does not display. But if sent from Outlook or Thunderbird then it displays fine.
If anyone can help to solve the html/rich text issue I would love to make a small donation for your efforts. Thanks.
