Real Name In Profile And Postbit
![]() Developer Last Online: Jun 2013 ![]() ![]() ![]()
Please click Mark as Installed if you are using this hack.
What Does This Hack Do? This is an update to my 3.8.x version of this hack, designed to work with vBulletin v4.0.x. A very simple hack to display your real name in your profile and postbit (or postbit legacy), just like here at vBulletin.org. If no real name is entered, then it will not display in the postbit (or postbit legacy). DEMO: View it in action here. This hack was created because of a request by Hannan here. Limitation with this hack People keep asking for usergroup permissions for this hack. While this would easy to implement, what people fail to realise is that User Profile Fields are not controlled by usergroup permissions at all, and even if usergroup permissions were added to this hack, the User Profile Fields would still be viewable by members even if they do not have permissions to use them. User Profile Fields are either viewable by all or viewable by none, this is how they were implemented in vBulletin by design, there is no in between with User Profile Fields. So, I will not be adding usergroup permissions to this hack. vBulletin Version Compatibility This hack can be used with vBulletin versions 4.0.0 - 4.2.0. For the v3.8.x version of this hack, which will also work with v3.7.x and v3.6.x - check here. Hack Support/Feature Requests IMPORTANT: This hack is no longer supported. Install/Uninstall Instructions The Real Name In Profile And Postbit Installation Instructions 4.0.xxx.pdf instructions file is included in attached .zip (includes visual instructions). NOTE: If upgrading then just do Step 2 and Step 3 again. Translations I would like to thank the following people for their translations:
Version History v4.0.3 - Saturday 11th December 2010 -- Fixed: "maxversion" so product can be installed on vBulletin 4.1.0 and above -- Changed: version number formatting v4.0.002 - Monday 28th June 2010 -- Was released at Wolfshead Solutions on Sunday 20th June 2010 -- Updated: Plugin to also work on vBulletin 4.0.4 -- Updated: 25/7/2010, removed global $vbulletin statement .... pretty embarrassed, thanks for Boofo for pointing it out (version number not updated) v4.0.001 - Friday 27th November 2009 -- Initial v4.0.x Release Thanks Thanks go out to Paul M who gave me permission to use some of his install code. Why is the name of the State taking over?

I would love to use this mod, but I would need the "Real Name" to display on the postbit INSTEAD of their username. If there is nothing in the user field, then the username shows, if there is a entry in the Reel Name field, then that shows instead.
Ideas? No members have liked this post.

Change "field4" to the profile field you are using to store the user's real name. edit: I changed to code to remove the call to a function containing a db query. ![]()

Primarilly, I need this to work when displaying the username on posts as well as when displaying the username in CMS articles. Is this going to do that?

The last bit of code works in the forums, but not in the CMS.

Unless I did somethig wrong, this does not do it either.
I changed field4 to field6 and just pasted it in "as is" plugin I added. No members have liked this post.

OK, weird.
When I look at the list of articles, the "Real Name" is displaying. However, when I bring the article up, it goes back to the "Username". No members have liked this post.

Well, I guess the CMS articles don't use the memberaction drop-down when displaying usernames...I assumed they would, but we all know what happens when we assume.
![]() As I said, I don't use CMS so I have no idea how it displays usernames, but if you have a test/dev site online (with CMS) I would be willing to go there and see if I can get it to work. ![]()

My site is not officially up. So, feel free to go to http://www.hidingplace.com/forums/ and sign up for a new account. I will be notified when that happens, and then I will move you to the Administrator usergroup.
