Is it possible to use this as the homepage in the root directory, if the forums are in the /forum directory?

In other words, a user goes to and lands on this blog-like homepage. But if they go to, they are on the forum. Is this possible?

anyone know if i can get rid of the sidebar all together? i just want the posts without anything on the sides.
